I finally got back to the garage for the last couple weeks and simply white-washed (actually, tan) the entire thing. I carpeted the stairs with gray outdoor carpet and rebuilt the small staircase to the other door and carpeted that as well. Trim, new blinds, rearranged a few things, etc. I have one dilemma though: I covered the ledge along the back wall and small cubby area with 1x pine and am trying to decide how to finish it. The sections are 8.5" wide and 24', 10' and 5'. I can paint it, but it's just going to show all the dust in a matter of hours. Do you think I should simply carpet it like the staircases? It's a very low pile exterior-grade carpet. I'll have to post some pics, but thought I'd get some ideas first.
I got rid of so much ****, including the OLD fridge. That got moved to the basement next to the freezer. You had to open the garage in the winter to get to it anyway, since the cars are too long and always blocked access to it. I have moved almost every item that was hanging on the walls underneath the stairs. They are easily accessible and I was able to mount and organize everything so nothing just got thrown in for concealment purposes only. The 4x8 folding ramp found a home on the narrow wall next to the main door and I simply hung hooks on the rungs to hang the motorcycle gear while not in use.
One reason why I simply repainted was due to the fact my four kids constantly chip the paint on the lower (dark) paint and it shows each and every time. Also, this is not going to be our last house, so I thought I'd make it nice, but neutral, for any possible buyers in the future.
I look forward to any suggestions anyone might have.
