Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not exactly all done today but one thing led to another over a few weeks.
I ended up taking a somewhat forced early retirement earlier this year and my co-workers gave me a nice gift certificate from Menards. I used it along with a sale price and some cash to get new doors for my garage. I made the old doors for it 15 years ago with a wood/foam sandwich construction and some of the sections have started to delaminate. After I installed the new doors I used good sections of the old doors to make some nice storage shelves high on the walls in both my garage and my son's garage.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

This weekend was just not meant to be!First i started to lay out and measure to start making my T-Bucket on steroids(I'm a big guy with a wife and 2 kids) First thing i had a strip of plywood about 6X18" or so,I needed it cut in half for a shim so what do i do? Decide that even though the saw was less than ten feet from me i would just prop one end on the bench and just stomp it in half.It worked but i did something to my heel and it has hurt ever since. Then i cut and bent some tubing for the frame of my T body and started welding it up,Got the lower portion almost done and ran out of mig wire! Sat. afternoon around here means you are SOL. Guess I'll try again next weekend.

Worked on a project for a side job. Got an inner leg sunburn from the welding (about an hour of laying some beads)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I did get my whole garage shop vacuum system completed, hoses and all. Finally. Now to build all the hose adaptors that are missing from or never installed on all this woodworking equipment. I spend more time sweeping up sawdust than woodworking, but that's gonna end!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Gave up on soft drinks. ==> this is the tough one. My wife makes sure I have cranberry juice at home, I am not so disciplined.

A colleague told me about allipurinol. Off to the doctor I guess, this is the second bout in 6 months.

Thanks for the other ideas...these are very doable as I love yogurt :)

Glad to hear yours is under control!

Take a look at the labels on anything you drink. More than a few of those "juices" have HFCS and I blame a lot of my problems on that.

...as I said it's been about a year since I had an episode. If any of this helps then you're welcome to it. Oh, and blackberries, blueberries and dark cherries are all your friends. Just stop at the store and buy you a package and enjoy.

oh, and lay off the alcohol while the attacks are happening. LOTS OF WATER. From what I gather gout is more some kind of crystalline deposits that normally would be dissolved in your blood. Flush them out. Lots of liquids.

...

I was having gout- Doc told Me to get a can of sour cherries. I snacked on a few of those, gout gone by next morning.

I never had gout disappear that fast. If it gets started I'm down for a couple of days. Lots of salads, more fish, do like your mother said and eat a "balanced" meal (not a steak in one hand and baked potato in the other). I'm not very good at it but have started finding "other" things to eat with my steak and baked potato.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I've done some searching the net, doesn't seem too difficult with my mig, a donor 26" (one from my mother's garage which I rode probably 20 years ago before I could drive) and a 20" which I bought from Walmart for $70. Couldn't see spending $50 for a used Craigslist 20" one.

Anyway, the 26" is stripped. Amazingly even though it was somewhat rusted, nothing broke when taking it apart. I guess except the chain which I could not get the master link to come apart so I shoved a flat head screw driver in it and twisted.

I'm guessing you've looked into welding bike frames/cromoly? I had quite the time when I first tried until I learned about pre-heating and slow cooling the parts.

They are 2700mm long. I am hoping to have them in paint in the next week or two, just have to make the hoods for each light and then make some fake street signs for on top.

One bike is very old and the other is very cheap. Not sure if either is Cromoly. I'll take your advice and research it though if they give me trouble with the MIG.

I need a new Tweeco or other generic replacement gun for my Solar MIG welder. It would probably do better than my HF 190 amp MIG.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I built horseshoe pits for dad and I to play some!

I also built a oscillating spindle sander, had to look up it's proper name!
I bought the sanding spindle's off of an auction site for $9:thumbup:
Then I used my old spare drill press to make it, along with some spare wood! I made 3 different size plates to put on the top of it to go with the 4 different size sanding drums.
I love it!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finally got off my **** and had a look at why the suede steering wheel I put on the ute a few months ago had come loose. Turned out the piece of plastic that self cancels the indicators has persihed and cracked. Off to the Ford dealer to order a new one tommorow. Also fixed the horn button while I had it out. Two minutes with a heat gun and the thing doesnt fall on the floor anymore.

Oh and I filled the front half of the shed that I cleaned up a few weeks ago with all my stuff that was in my work car that I will be handing back shortly as a result of changing jobs in a couple of weeks...

I moved a yeard of pit run and 4 yards of 3/4 crushed stones on sat and finaly got my shed base completed...I think.

That looks good.

I cut up some kiln dried kindling after cleaning up the yard. We got about 4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. The rain came down, the creek went up and my pile of sticks by it went on down stream . . . . :wtf: . . . . but left me 2 wheel barrows of **** to clean up.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Surfing the GJ a bit on my quickie peanut butter toast lunch break :D from the Dodge 800 farm truck emblems I've been restoring. Here's what I started with ...

View attachment 267578

Lots of repairs and some high temp filler have gone into these -- you can see they were pretty beat with a ton of pot metal deterioration. My customer is hoping for a "decent ten footer" result; the truck he's working on was purchased brand new by his grandfather.

With my Super Chrome base coat finished up, I've been putting the colors on them last night and this morning recreating the original red and black factory finishes. I didn't really hold out a lot of hope for these on arrival but am VERY pleased with how they're coming along so far. Here's a couple base coat teasers ...

I hate to disappoint a customer but I've got a feeling these are going to be closer to 'decent three footers' when all is said and done.

The red areas are finished -- wow, it really pops! -- and all 13 pieces have been cleared (chrome powder coating and some reds aren't UV stable on their own). I hope to have the black areas done this evening / tonight, and then they'll be ready to send home to Pennsylvania. :D

I'll show off the Dodge 800 Powder **** here after my customer gets to see them and approves the work. Back to the shop ....... ya'll have a great day!

Wow....Those look great so far.:thumbup:

Depending on how things go around here, I may possibly send some business your way once in a while. So far, looking through your website, I haven't seen one thing bad or anything I would question. I would find it hard to believe from all of your pics you have posted on here or on your site, that anyone would be dissatisfied.

Its not "my" garage, I share it with my roommate. But this is my little area, just finished my littlenwork bench. Pulling out all the old stuff that use to be there.

Im still in the middle of organizing everything.

There's more stuff on the couch, I was to lazy to walk down there.

Wow, thank you Kevin! It was a lonnnng day but they're finished finally. I think he'll be pleased with the results -- they turned out better than I ever expected. (My remark about disappointing him was just a joke since he was hoping for 10-footers ... and I wouldn't be overly shy about anybody giving them an inspection from a few inches away.)

It would be an honor to work with you. < curtsey > :D I'll be around whenever you're ready. Thanks again for the kind words!

Painted the first of three garage doors, its just a temporary job as the doors will eventually get replaced but I don't think I can afford to get the roof done this year which dictates when the doors get changed as they will need to be bigger/taller.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finished setting up my 20+ yr old Rotary spo98. I really couldnt believe that it still had oil in it. I told my son to drain it so as not to make a mess while it sat (on its side) for almost 2 yrs on my floor. No oil on the floor,I uncapped the hoses and hooked them up.Resivor was full and it went all the way up. I lowered it and cracked the bleeders on the cylinders, got a tiny bit of foam on one side, and just oil on the other. Good to go!

This morning I bought 2 tool boxes (Waterloo & Kennedy) & tools that came w/them, I gave them a bath.

Anyone know where there might be a date or p/n on these?

Note: In the roast pan I've got a gal of white vinegar de-rusting those tools.

Thanks 4 looking!:D:thumbup:

Replaced the steering rod on my mower after it snapped off mowing my yard yesterday. Left my yard half mowed and my mower looking like this:

Fixed my weedwhacker......

The fuel lines broke off just inside the fuel tank, so it was sucking air. New lines, cleaned the filter, fired it up and viola', she runs like new!

sprayed etching primer on it and sprayed rubberized undercoating inside the trough

My prime set of car keys has gone missing. I know they are in the shop someplace. So today I spent six hours looking for them. The good news? The place is really spiffed up. Bad news? My keys are still awol.
