Finally replaced the carb on my Stihl 028 chainsaw. It's been a difficult lesson to learn that some things, like 24 year old carbs, just can't be fixed. Runs great.

Topped up the AC in my car a tad, but ran out of R134a due to the can being near empty to start with. Indications are at idle RPM; low pressure drops to under 10 psi off idle.

I finally got to use my gauges.

Cool eh!

Okay Kevin54, here's the emblems I've been restoring that I mentioned a couple days ago for a Pennsylvania customer with the Dodge 800 truck his grandfather bought new. First, a few "before" pictures of what I started with ...

View attachment 268108

View attachment 268109

View attachment 268110

And here they are now ... far from perfection, but they're a lot better.

View attachment 268112

View attachment 268113

View attachment 268115

Kinda cool to see the "before" and "after" all in one photo!

View attachment 268114

I used the group pic on the left while I was working to make sure I got the colors in the right spots ... and then decided to just put it on top of the finished emblems inside the shipping box LOL

If you're on FaceBook, I have a regular feature on my shop's Fan Page called the Friday Powder **** where I show off the preceding week's work. Here's a link if anybody wants to check it out, send a Friend Request or Like the page.

Have a great weekend ya'll! Stay cool, stay safe, and above everything else, keep your powder dry. :D

Those are outstanding! I know when a person works on something they always nit-pick it and it just isn't 100% perfect to them and sees little flaws(I am the same way) but these look awesome!
If I was that customer I would give you a 5 star rating! Good job!
I'm going to your FB page in a few minutes.
Good job!

This morning changed the oil & filter, lubed the suspension, then did a general detail on the TR4A. Followed it up with a drive in the country.

Very nice car! Looks awesome. Hate to admit it, but had a TR7 (had a good time restoring it and fun driving it). Sold for a very good profit.
Nice garage setup too!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Yesterday I got 3 of the 4 colums for my little 1 t bridge crane extended and new base plates fitted. I had this crane at the front end of the rotary at the old shop for 20+ yrs. The cieling in that part of the shop was only11'-6" so it was built to that size. Up here I have almost 14' so I'm adding 18" to the colums to take advantage of that. In the old shop the lift and crane setup was used mostly for pulling large frp parts out of molds, and setting bare boat hulls on newly completed trailers. I dont think I had more than 2 or 3 cars on it in the 20 yrs it was there!
I'm going down and try to work on the 4th colum in a while but its 88 deg@ 90% humidity,so it likely wont get done today!

Stayed in the city (therefore workshop rather than garage) and worked on repairing the fence & gate, taking a couple of trips to the dump. etc. "supervised" the contractors replacing a fence on one side, "supervised" my 25 year old daughter and her friends borrowing the pool. Still managed to slip in a round of golf :)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I finally fixed my driveshaft issue. Ever since I did the v8 swap in my extended cab s10, I used a one piece drive shaft, and it has been hitting the bottom of the cab, so last night I ran across the old piece of roof that I saved when they put the sunroof in, so I decided to use that for a new transmission/driveshaft hump.

First crappy job done 2 years ago before I got a welder, just notched it where I thought it was hitting, and had screwed some pieces of sheet metal down to cover the holes:

After about 3 minutes with the trusty ol dewalt jigsaw, you can see where it was rubbing:

Finished welding, I didn't worry about grinding any of the welds down since you won't see it from the carpet, but I did put a coat of primer on so it wouldn't rust.

All in all, I think it turned out ok, had to play with the welder settings alot, and getting the gun angle right.

I changed the front and rear diff fluids, and engine oil on a 97 Yamaha Wolverine. Now if I could just figure out why it dies when giving it full throttle. Time to pull the carb again I suspect.

Put anti-seize on the 72 mounting brackets that hold the 20 solar panels on the roof rails, and torqued them all to manufacturer spec, without falling off the second floor roof.

Pulled out the Dewalt mitre saw and cut more romex support strips for the wiring in the attic. Once it started raining, I headed for the attic to install the support strips and tacked the romex to it.

Check the boot between the carb and cylinder, I had a warrior with the same engine once, and it had a big crack in the rubber boot, sucking too much air and running lean.

Actually I looked at that, boot was a bit ****-eyed on the front of the carb, re-seated it, problem persists. Idles better though, now if only it didn't feel like it was pulling a boat anchor at low speed and want to snub out at more than 30% throttle. Last year I replaced the diaphragm in the cab as it had a pinhole in it, it was better after that but it seems to have gone south again.

Worked on the DIY recumbent bicycle for my wife today for a few hours. Finally started cutting up the old ones, used a hole saw set from HF on the bicycle frame tubing and was surprisingly impressed and also ground down some of the pipes that I cut off and won't be reusing the location.

Since it's boggy and won't rev, check the spark plug, I had an issue like that with my banshee about 2 weeks ago, forgot to take off the airbox lid, so it was WAY rich, got about 500ft. down the road and fouled both plugs, it barely ran, and wouldn't rev past about 1/4 throttle, swapped the plugs and ran like a champ.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

gutted my race car to repaint the cage, years of getting in and out and seat belts dinging it all up, it was looking shabby, i dont know if anybody has painted a roll cage but it is a major PITA! have to weld new window net mounts on because im changing that too, spent quite a few hours just taping the inside of car as i only want to paint the cage, and got some sanding of the old paint done.

Got it wired for internet connection!!! I was too far away from the house to pick up the wi-fi from the house so I had to run a network cable to the shop. Been wanting a computer out there for years. Got a buddy to come help this weekend and Got-R-done!!!

Finished the tin ceiling in the shop this weekend. I was a little worried about installing the 23' long pieces by myself, I won in the end!

I feel like I got my *** kicked, Not as young as I think I am!

I'm not looking forward to doing mine. How did you keep all the screw straight and in the narrow 1.5" wood rafter? Any tips? My trusses are 44 ft and they just have a natural wave to them. When I did the walls we ran a rotating laser which was really nice for shooting in the screws nice and straight.

Thanks

On mine I screwed a 2x4 to the bottom chord. This gave me 3". Make a drawing of the bottom chords useing the joint between the bottom chord and the 2x4 doubler as the c/l. Stack your sheets, transfer the measurements to the sheets, and drill all the holes at one time. If you find that you are running off the bottom chord with the screws, just add another 2x4 to give them something to hit.DO NOT run the screws with an impact driver. The hammering will chip the paint off of the screws and will look like ****. Use a cordless drill-driver and ease the screws in,useing the clutch release to eliminate overdriveing.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Today, it's raining, so I called my BIL and had him come over for scrap. He can use the cash since he's not working and when he left I found.........

a floor!

Then I adjusted my garage door rollers/panels to tighten them up in preparation for new door seals to keep out the dust.

This old garage has NO ventilation at all. No ridge vent, no eave vent, no soffett vents, zip, nada, zero. I gotta get this heat outta here in the summer.

What to do? Ahhhh that's for another day.

My NEW garage came the same way. Sheet rocked in with NO attic vents whatsoever. It is an over in summer. I need to do something with it.
