LOLZ.

I just sent jeffmoss26 a COO USA Ridgid pipe wrench (made in Ohio) this week that will rival that in smallness.

It was "so" fuc%(#g cute.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

:)

I think this one is 6". I'm surprised my how loose the thing is. I'll try to get a better picture up soon. It's odd that it's stamped craftsman and it's actually blue, not red.

After seeing what some of you guys are able to find, the yard sales around here **** ***! Its all just old baby clothes, B.S. little knick knacks, and old 80's and 90's crappy electronics. Good tool sales are very few and far between. Its starting to burn me out of even going to garage sales.

You have some good swap meets though try those. I got a map of my area and highlighted all the older neighborhoods. Then I compare that to those listed on yardsaletreasuremap.com Old tools are found at older homes with yard sales!

i seldom find anything worthwhile toolwise in a newer neighborhood.

i check around the areas that have older homes, built in the late 50's-early 60's. a lot of those homeowners have now reached retirement age, or have passed away.
couple of my favorite tool destinations are a resale shop, and a "junk" flea mkt in an older, less disireable part of town....
seems like you cant swing a dead cat without hitting a pawn shop around here, there are probably 10 within 20 minutes of me, only 3 are worth my time to stop by once a month or so....

OOps! Yeah I paid 25 for the whole lot, 20 for the sockets and an additional 5 for the box with contents.

Sounds decent, I like that speed handle with the fat wide handle, favored tool on KC-135's and B-52's I worked on. We could not use power tools of any sort on the screws for the aluminum panels, some panels had 100's of screws! The fat wide knob was favored for being able to put body weight removing stubborn screws. They got harder to find and some toolboxes had wide aluminum knobs that slipped over the long thin handles on the newer speed handles.

LEK would be 3rd quarter of 42! Wow!!

You are a troublemaker Jeff Moss first I had to spend 15 minutes finding the date codes

M K L E I N C O R P
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

This is for pre 1972 unless very old, three letter code will be the quarter first then the year.

and then spend another 30 minutes seeing what old Kleins I have!

Bell System linesman pliers 134
KIP 2nd quarter 1950

special purpose modified needle nose 303-6
LNE 3rd quarter 1964

I was just looking it up. Here's what I found on Alloy Artifacts:

Figured out my route of decent looking sales late last night and headed out early this morning. Since there are a lot of sales in the Shreveport area I go to sales advertising tools, "man stuff", estate sales and farm and out in the country sales.

First one near me was a bust, used Harbor Freight stuff.

The second, third and fourth were in the back roads of Keithville 40 miles away. Since they all had tools advertised I decided to go there next.

First one I scored a Greenlee conduit hole punch set, 3 Petersen vise grips and 5 Craftsman nut drivers for $13 total.

Next sale just had a Craftsman puiller for $1.50

The last sale in Keithville area was a falling down shed with a bad roof. A little digging turned up a Craftsman vintage sander, Kent Moore J3957 control arm spreader for vintage GM cars, folding saw clamp and a milk crate for $4 total.

Headed to Shreveport and found a great sale I wish I had stopped by first, had already sold over $1000 worth of stuff. First thing I bought was a 6' wide 3 point hitch scraper blade for a tractor, not pretty but in very useable shape. Had been looking for one but they were all in the $200 plus range for a used one so jumped on this one.

I picked up a #0 Dake arbor press as well.

Bought a bunch of stuff for $1 each, top left is 4 new Dewalt angle grinder cutting disks, next the yellow (metric) and blue (SAE) blocks are holders to put your tap and drills in one one place. The box below is an old Craftsman I am going to rob the badge off of, below that is a tool box tray with 16 I-beam clamps used for hanging things from the I-beam, useful for rmy big shop. To the right are a pair of new Craftsman mulching blades for the lawn tractor I use, in the package is a new blade for my push mower.

I had to drive back home for my trailer for the tractor blade so I also picked up a VERY heavy old machine table he had with a 1" thick top for $7.50

I was really happy with the tractor scraper blade, too bad I don't own a tractor......

The only swapmeet around here is very hit or miss and most tool things are bought before the gates open by other sellers and flippers and then charge 5 times what they paid. The yard sale treasure map site is cool though, i'll be giving that a try.
Stick with it, it's been before mother's day since I had a good weekend. Fall is good, it's hot as hell right now here.
Very true, didnt think about that.
I see lots of those too (I don't stop unless I see "Junk" boxes...). do you do any pre-planning or juts cruse? The latter will be frustrating anywhere...

I check the old ares in town but not a whole lot going on in them. they are the areas where i mostly just cruse around and look. I did find one lady selling her late husbands tools but her son had gone through them and picked out most the good stuff. Al lot of the tools left was the HF stuff.
Lots of pawn shops but they are retardidly high on prices of tools and most wont haggle on price.
i do appreciate the advise and encouragement from everyone though.

Sales have been slow around here. Tool sales have mostly been Chinese junk so I haven't gone to many. But today I went to one.

30 bucks got me all this. Columbia gyro vise, small anvil, a bunch of electrical boxes (not pictured), craftsman pro drill bit and driver set, some craftsman chisels, sears ratcheting ball screwdriver, craftsman pipe cutter, mini mag, sharpening stone and case, binoculars, and a bunch of zippo style lighters, most are zippo brand.

those grader blades are crazy, just sold one on ebay for $535 for an old sears tractor

I am the neighborhood "help" guy, don't own the lawn tractor but maintain a neighbors (oil change, spark plug, fuel filter, new blades every year) for using it and my neighbor across the street has a nice Yanmar, the blade is parked at his place and I can use his tractor if I need to.

Wish I had more time this morning at this estate, but there was a parade starting at 10 that I had to make it back for so I only got 15 minutes or so. It's almost all Cornwell, I have to do some sorting tonight to figure out what's actually in the tray. Sorry no pricing since I'm probably selling this lot.

I'm waiting to see if I beat Rickster to a sale, I'm going to bet if he wasn't there when this opened he popped in during the day.

Today from 8am to 1pm I went to 3 estate sales, plus a few hard sales along the way. I've been looking for a Kennedy Machinist chest for a while and spotted it in the list. Arrived 45mins before sale started, and was first in line. Chest was marked $40, and tools inside were marked $10-$30 each. Total came to about $190, but several of the tools weren't needed, so I pulled them out and got the chest and contents for $70. Wilton vice (my first) was another $10. Delta 4in Jointer was another $32 (they were asking $45, I offered $30 and we settled on $32). The other odds and ends were another $5, including some mandrels, dental tools, and some gauges.

Here is the haul from the first sale. There are two Starrett pin vices, some gauge blocks, starrett divider, and lots more I still have to dig through.

Next sale had nearly no tools, but I did find two commercial grade hoses on the back porch. $5 for both.

Last sale was a commercial landscaper estate sale. Lots of made in korea, taiwan, china and japan tools, but I dug around and found these. 600N wireless router, leather stamping kit, palm ratchet (I've been looking for one) etc. Total for this was $20.

And a closeup of the blue handled pliers for Jeff :)

Ended up being ~75 sockets, but it's not what I thought it was. There's a fair amount of duplicates (like 6 3/8" drive 1/2" sockets), but it looks like a mixture of impact and regular sockets and everything has been spray painted silver. Still looking up part numbers, but there's a fair amount that have part numbers starting with 1R that I haven't been able to identify.

On the plus side, I dug out about 12 Snap-On pieces that were a nice surpise, as well as a few plvmb. Has anyone heard of 'Brown' tool? There was one socket from them as well.

Stopped at two garage sales this morning, got a handful of good stuff for the toolbox, all of it cost just under $10. Not bad for name brand stuff.

Craftsman ball peen hammer, 16oz, most expensive of the bunch at $4
lot of 14 Craftsman sockets, 1/4 and 3/8 drive, mostly mm ones I'm missing, $2 for all
Proto DBE wrench, 3/4 and 7/8, $3
Proto 1/2" combo wrench, 50 cents
Snap On 1/2" combo wrench, FREE with the hammer

Anything free is good, especially Snap On. SO wrench has 1954 date code.

I couldn't help but pick up this obnoxiously large 1-7/8" Wright combo wrench. (about 28" long) At $35 it wasn't cheap.

This weekend wasn't a total lost cause what with majority of the garage sales with kids clothes and toys. I need to buy stock in that **** :lol_hitti

From an reasonably priced professional Estate Sale,

Mitutoyo Gage Block set, Cornwell combo wrench and Padlock saying Kodak Safety which looks to have been used for lock-out/tag-out - $11

a5180fa0-d07f-4c97-b4e4-8b9277b1cc7d_zpsf2e8bc80.jpg

And though not from a garage/estate sale but picked up during my garage saling travels from a Craigslist ad,

Wright 1/2" drive SAE deep socket set, never used. Also a Craftsman stainless steel combo wrench. First one of those that I have seen in my travels. - $12

WOW, lots of suckage going on here.

reptilezs, sweet score on those ratchets.

nine, sweet cooler, you definitely need to put it to use.

Matt, GREAT deal on that jointer. Well worth $45 let alone the $32 you paid for it. Good little home shop machine, and yours looks very nice and complete, especially for $32

Davefr, sorry, but I am going to have to stop reading your posts on this thread. Every time you post I feel like I have grossly overpaid at garage sales. :lol_hitti
That dremel and SK socket set is just fantastic for $7

Keep it up guys. I stopped at a few sales today, one sale had a bunch of tools and this was at ~1:30pm. Just as I suspected SUPER high prices. :( 99% of the stuff was labeled as "vintage" and "rare"

Your file size is probably too big for a direct attachment. Try an image hosting site like imageshack (it's free). Or you can resize them in MS paint pretty quickly.

Nice picks today guys! I bought just a few items today, but can't figure out the picture thing yet to brag about them. I'm soaking some of the finds in vinegar, some cool old wrenches and Walden Worchester sockets. Found an electric kiln (small like a hobbyist kiln) made in Paris and has a 220 plug-in so I'll have some work to do. Also got a wood burning kit from France with bakelite and wood box, fabric electrical cords, cork handles on the burner and 5 different pencil tips. Also 220v so more work to do.

This is a JH Williams 12" CC-412 *********** C-Clamp, acquired for $10, and I plan to work it until it falls apart. =)

I know it's a sin to repaint something :)rolleyes:), but this thing was off-the-charts rusty and frozen/seized. I fixed the seized issue, deburred a tiny bit on one thread with a very light filing (really not necessary, but...), blasted and repainted. I'll wirewheel brush the threads, remove the overspray and re-oil once the paint has cured (which may be never in this humidity).

P.S. Framed is a 3" US-made C-clamp for reference...
