Those junk tools in front of the box came with it, hammer, nice large flat ******* file, about 10 vintage screw bits, A neat 10ft Sealey (by Stanley) tape measure, and a poor little lost lonesome center drill. How bout a buck a drawer and 2 bucks for the junk in the drawers. I was lucky in that I had to drive up to Chicago anyway for a doctor's appt, so I'm not counting gas which would have been about $40.....

Now I just need to get to those darned tabs on the slides so I can remove the drawers. Going back original with Hammered Silver drawers and Hammered Blue box. I'll have to get a lock and make the lock bars as they are missing. Also have a few holes to fill from all the **** people have mounted to it over the years.

Not sure if this qualifies as a tool box like most of you all are posting, this is kinda small. But I picked it up from the pawn store this morning for $5. It's not in the best shape, lotsa dings and dents, one of the clasps doesn't quite mate up, but I think it will do nicely for a work box that I won't feel too bad about using and adding more dings to it. Old 50s Craftsman hinge-top, with the tray in good shape too.

The old clunker just followed me home. No keys, but the front door panels seem to wok well and there doesn't seem to be much rust. I'm thinking it's from about 1949 or 1950. Should clean up fairly nice.

The bottom probably is late 40's as you guess. the top could be from then till the early 60's. that is the stereotypical Kennedy 520 style machinist box, (whether it was made by K or not... I have a Waterloo with the same drawer pulls and W had a contract with sears for years....)

I ran across this on CL and it's a Union box. Looks to be the same as the top box you are showing all except for the center Hasp / lock is different

I am looking for a vintage Snap on, Craftsman or Kennedy hand held tool box for 13 year old son. It will be his 1st box and I plan on making it look brand new... If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know...

Just a hand held one, something like 18-20 inches long.. Id like to find one with a removable metal tray.. It doesn't have to be too fancy. I just want something he can use for a long time and will one day think it pretty cool I bought/refinished for him.:) and I live in Kansas

okie dokie

what about something like a kennedy cantilever box or a CM rally box?

they pop up on CL and at flea mkts around here, and can usually be gotten for $15-$20 depending on condition.

pic of a kennedy i grabbed at a flea mkt for $9 3 or 4 years ago..

Put out a "Wanted to Buy" on your local craigslist. I bet you will have so many options you won't know which one to chose from. Especially from the craftsman variety. I think about every home across America has an older grey craftsman hand carry box. :lol_hitti

i use that box for my off road truck spare parts box.

there are old threads that cover those cantilever boxes, and the amount of tools that they can hold are amazing.

i have it so crammed full of parts & supples, that i really dont want to carry it very far.

Not mine but a co-worker picked this up from a guy who worked in an automotive shop starting in the 1920's. We think it was handmade but we aren't sure.

It has lots of neat little compartments. Some were obviously intended for particular items - though we can't figure them all out.

Going to look at this Rem-Line tomorrow for $50. About 26.5" wide, a little surface rust. It doesn't have the wheels on the bottom anymore, but I have some extra casters laying around. Is it a good deal?

Hard to tell it's condition, but I wouldn't give any more than $50.00.I have the same bottom roller, they're pretty tough.

Thanks SoftTailGarage. I was holding out for a Kennedy bottom roller, but around here they go for way too much money or they are gone before I find the ads. I could do worse for $50, if all the drawers work and the rest isn't bad.

Hold old is yours?

I think that might be for a Valve seat grinding set. I have seen many similar boxes like that before. The holes are for the pilots, and the rest for holding the grinder motor, the wheels and a few misc accessories.

I picked up this Old Kennedy Machinist box yesterday at a garage sale for $17.50. Any one know how old it is? It has drawer pulls like I have never seen on a Kennedy. The paint is very heavy on the wrinkle finish compared to the newer stuff. Leather handle, which I have seen before on these. Their was a logo on the box that is mostly worn off. The drawer all work great except the bottom is a bit sticky.
Anyone know how to get these style drawers out? They don't have the "tabs" like the modern ones. I tried slipping something in between the slides and drawers like the old Snap Ons use and that didn't work. There is some paperwork under that bottom drawer and I want to see what it says.

I've bought and sold a lot of Kennedy's over the years and I've never saw one with handles like that either. Like you, I have seen the leather handles and have had a couple that had the bent up metal handles, but never saw or had one with the drop handles. Where is the faded out logo located at on the box? Is it on the inside or outside and the location of the logo at?

Forget my last comment about the location. My internet connection fizzled and I didn't see the last three pics.
