I hit a few yard sales this weekend but wasn't really into it. I wanted to finish the toolbox and some other projects. But I did hit a yard sale where an older guy was selling EVERYTHING in the house in preparation for moving to the country and simplifying his life. Anyway, I headed straight to the garage (where else?) and found several large boxes, all marked $5. I wasn't interested in the old kitchen gadgets, etc. but one box was FILLED with old VW parts, a couple of piston ring compressors (AMMCO and CRAFTSMAN), several old wheel covers and a CRAFTSMAN tool box. Yeah, I bought it.

LOL, her husband passed 6 months ago and she is moving to Florida in 2 weeks, I offered her 115 for three boxes but she insisted I take them all, I have only got through 3 boxes, so far I have 3 completed sets of craftsman =v= sockets, about 30 ratchets( only 10 or so USA) and a shitload of tinsnips.
I am gonna be sorting for days!

Went to an estate sale Fri. on my break. Opened at 9 AM and got there at 9:30. HORDES of people stripping the tool tables in a room off of the kitchen. I was walking away and noticed the two Craftsman boxes unmarked behind the door and fridge. Asked and got both for $5 total. The Craftsman Industrial was missing the upper tray, but it turns out the big mystery tray I use to tote tools around the yard fits it like a glove! The other had a stuck drawer and had stuff in it that they told me I could keep. Good thing, too. I managed to get a few items off the table. The case, bits, and warranty card for the Craftsman impact tool ($1) were in the box plus a set of C-man set screw keys. Also got a super long feeler gauge set w/ 9" blades marked FIAT SAT c.316 and a Packer ratchet in mint condition. Wonderd were the rest of the set was.
Next day, Sat., I went to a sale that promised the moon in tools. The guy spent most of the time pulling back the best of the stuff and putting it back in his garage. I did get a clump of good stuff for $4.00 out of various boxes of pure junk. 1/2 C-man ratchet, C-man torque wrench, 1"X16" round of brass, steel rod I was going to use as an axle marked Snap-O (so I guess I won't), old Schrade knife missing the pommel, 7 Lb. round of lead, various C-man EZ outs, and the nicest Starret center punch I've seen. The monster Crescent wrench (soda rust bucket project) and another Burndy hand press with a die set in them. (Second press of the year and I have never seen one before then). Oh! And the O A regulators.
Went to another sale and picked up an SK ratchet with an attached extension and socket for fifty cents and Crescent linemans pliers for the same.
New can of tap oil, new bag of brushes, and new roll of Gorilla tape for $2 total from a guy with a flatbed trailer having a sale on the side of the road. Very strange.
Chairity sale, a US Allied drill index full of perfect drills for $7 and a Streamlight flashlight for $1. I like it better than my Maglites.
And last stop yeilded a drill index, big spool of 24 ga steel wire, 14 ga brass wire, and two Craftsman pruners at the end of the sale for a dollar.
I figure that I paid a rough average of twenty to thirty cents per item not counting the tool boxes and the drill indexes.
I was away for a while and didn't get a chance to post these. Picked up a pair of BRC mountain bikes outfitted with Sachs Wheelhub gas engines two weeks ago for $150 for both.
From reading about the vices you guys have been looking for or finding, I guess I had better start picking them up. There was one at the first sale I went to and it's the one thing I see often around here. I might go back and ask if he still has it.
Good hunting all!

1) older Master Locks will have a 4 digit code stamped on the back, you give this code to a locksmith and they cross reference the actual cuts and cut a key. A key cut by code ranges from 5-10 bucks normally.
2) locks without codes can be impressioned. Using the proper blank and files, a locksmith will make a key by hand. This will cost a lot more.

I have people that do both for me. I have tried impressioning some locks on my own and failed :p

LOL.

I'm guessin' 90% of current home owners and home wrenchers out there don't have a single Snap-On tool.
Those that do are/were either pro mechanics, had/have a job requiring high quality tools, have a father that tought them of thier value or are a home DIY guy with a lot of expendable cash.

Before the internet the only way to buy truck tools was to actually have a truck drop by. Thus why they are either not in the mix much at all or there are a lot of them when dealing with estate sales involving a deceased relative.

At least from what I have seen over teh years.

That's why, when I find a lonely SO tool or two, I start taking a much closer look at everything around...

Nice Columbian!!!

I can't believe how smooth it is. I've never had a vise feel like this.

Between this and the Wilton I got last weekend, I think I have to sell my old 5" Craftsman since it doesn't have a home anymore. The columbian is like twice the size. Didn't seem that big until I put it on the bench.

Just picked up this Snap on 3/8 drive 17 piece metric socket set off Craigslist. The set is brand new with the packaging oil still on the sockets and I payed 115 or just under 7 bucks a socket which I felt was a fair price considering they are new and that it is 60% off list. Went to drop off some old tv's and chairs to a Bargain store friend and this was looking lonely and sad amongst all the HH furnishings and toys so I brought it home. :D

Nice Nine  Those are nice litte machines for the home shop. Do you plan to restore it? Sounds like the price was right. It looks pretty complete, but be careful using it without the condom. ;) Would hate for you to loose your pants or leg hair.

Folks, on my quest of searching for certain tools I was wondering if there was a list of what other members was looking for so I could keep an eye out for them. I'm mainly interested in helping someone complete their tool set for a collection or working set and not help them sell something for a profit.

I hope this weekend I can take some pictures of what odds I got that I don't want and put the list out there with the hope of trading for some 6 pts Metric Sockets and wrenches.

I'm looking for a decent Craftsman block grinder, I can't find any around here that aren't clapped out or cost eBay prices.

School starting all around so no tool sales today. After getting a deal at the thrift store this morning, I had the taste for blood in my mouth and hit a nearby pawn shop. $10 got me a couple Klein, a few Channel Locks and a set of 12" Allen wrenches.
