Hello Vise Friends,
I have some questions about making a pedestal base, and I need some GJ welding experts guidance. I have a large compressor pulley / flywheel that is 23" did., 4" thick and weighs 112# (see attachment). I think it would make a cool vise base. To build this, I have a 180 amp, AC welder and a variety of sticks. BTW, I am what's considered an experienced casual welder.
My plan is to weld a large pipe on to the center of the wheel and weld a plate on top of the vise. I will also weld gussets that will support the pipe to the wheel and gussets that will support the plate to the pipe.
I have seen stands similar to what I've described above.
1. What would be the best rod to use when welding the pipe & gussets to the wheel?
2. What would be the best setting on my welder?
3. Although I would like to use my 180 amp AC welder, would I be better off using another style of welding (mig, DC, etc.)?
Thanks in advance.
