Went back and spent more today than yesterday at the Snap-On sale. He had a couple more of some of the stuff I bought yesterday (the metric socket set and screwdrivers). I had to leave stuff behind that I wanted; I think I'm going to go back one last time just for that stuff (knipex plier wrench and vise grip 8Rs). I've got three plier sets, two screwdriver sets, a ratcheting screwdriver, gasket scraper set, burr set, and a bunch of other stuff as well. Pictures tonight.

Does that use flourescent or incandescent bulbs?

If incandescent, I;d say switch or connection at socket base.
If flourescent, I'd say check the ballast.

My silver one requires the on button to be pressed for several seconds, sometimes pumping it, then hold til both lights illuminate. Like the starter went out

I figure I could get a ballast from Lowes or a light supply house(there are several large ones local) if I ever pick up a bad one. You can test the switch by bypassing it but you'll have to disassemble the top to access the wires. Those look like standard momentary switches from radio shack.

As usual, I can't sit still for long knowing there may be a deal out there. I loaded back up and went back to the Snap On guy for round three

I like to bundle, kinda like Frank on pickers. I just need to learn when to hang around and when to go, cause I always get home and decide to go back to the good ones two and three times or waste time at the ones with nothing hoping something will appear...

Anyway, I remembered there was a few OEM specialty tools so I looked them over and pile them to the side.

Then I picked four 3/4" drive sockets out the china pile, a SK, Proto, Craftsman and Snap On, found three more 3/8" Snap On in a tote of china ****, along with the knurled nut from a Snap On Injector Pulley. The BP impact had been out there the whole time, I decided to bundle it this time. $30 for this and the three OEM kits above.

As I'm paying, he mentions the HF tool tables that I had been picking around all morning and not noticed, he threw them in at 2 for $20.

Enough there, my job is done! I head on back towards the shack with a big smile and warm fuzzy feeling(my ac don't work so more like a hot dirty feeling) Halfway back I stopped at a new pawn shop, guys were watching me like I stole something... I practically did, $10 no tax OTD for all this Channel Lock goodness, mixed with Craftsman locking pliers, a Snap On wrench and some unmarked oil filter pliers.

After getting lucky there, I stop at more frequented pawn shop and pick this out the piles for another $10 spot. Pair of Cummins locking pliers, Easco and Craftsman wrenches, Wide grip 6" Crescent to go with my 8" and another pair of Channel Locks. These had no visible marks other than the patent, which I had to look up to find out they were 620's, like I suspected

Now I'm done for the day, big sales tomorrow to get ready for!

Those are the same handles I have on an All American top box I'm cleaning up. The consensus is that my box was made by Waterloo, but yours may be from another mftr. The guru's will know better than me.

If you want to clean up the hardware without stripping the chrome, soak them in CLR overnight. The rust will wipe right off so you can polish them up pretty. It works !

I really like the layout of the drawers on that box.

9/16 x1/2. I had never seen these before today. I read the patent application and found the designer was trying to make an artsy wrench. Turned out pretty good I think. I'd like to put together a set just because they look cool.

I know I've got some of those wrenches in my bins. Who was maker again...Bridgeport maybe? I'll look when I get home. Happy to help you fill out a set.

This was priced right so I picked it up for one of my friends... the first call back got it No rust, no dents, locking hasp, everything works.

Caught the end of the first day of an estate sale. House stunk of cat, but they did have some goodies. Bundled it all together for $120 (roughly $20 for big heavy thing, $40 for Yost, $20 for Columbian, $20 for Variac, $20 for Arbor, plus a few other things)


I always buy MAPP gas when I find it. Two full bottles. Starrett divider, gas torch, drill gauge.

4in Colombian. Looks to have been repainted as some point


Yost 4in in original condition. Nice!


Pratt Arbor with shields (some parts missing)


The old motor that came with it. Has an adjustment in the back (variable speed??) No nameplate, but wired for 110v


14in sander/grinder? Not really sure on this. Made in NJ. Very heavy! If you have an idea of what this is or its value please let me know.

I have that same basic lamp in gray.

I missed a floor standing model in a barn sale a while ago - I was in a hurry to get somewhere.

Looks like you found a honey hole! Nice stuff crazy that's it's all NIB. I picked up a NIB snappy 17 piece 3/8 drive set about a week ago and I thought I was lucky finding a NOS set local but you take the cake .

I'm trying to get the hang of this garage sale thing. I left work early this afternoon and took the long way home. Hit ~12 garage sales (IDK this weekend seems to be the weekend for garage sales) you pull up to a 4 way intersection and there are arrows pointing in about 360° different directions

Some strange sales, very arrogant sellers and overall high prices. I'll spare you the details. I'm sure we have all had those experiences. Anyway, last sale ~2 blocks from home I dug through a box listed 25¢ each. After digging through ~40 rust covered india or china wrenches and screwdrivers, I picked out the top 4 items. Went to pay my $1 and the lady said "you know they are 25¢ each or 5/$1" Ok I can take a hint. Took a guess on what was left and grabbed a "West german DIN wrench"
I don't think the pliers (USA Crescent G-26) have ever been used, I'll take care of that soon.

I'm ~99% sure that is a waterloo box. 70's to mid 80's time frame. You will see it with a waterloo, Proto, and a few other name plates on it. Nice box.

They are..... "Compton Service Newark NJ, USA", "Forged tool steel 12in."
Up by the pivit bolt they are stamped "309"
They seemed nice and tight, blades looked good and tin snips come in handy. I figured for 25¢ I couldn't be out too much.

I have no idea what inlaid means to be honest with you.

EDIT: After a google search, it looks like Inlaid was a process, specific to Wiss to form a harder cutting edge. Since these aren't wiss snips, I don't think they are inlaid, BUT IDK?

A nice teaser for a Friday evening . . . picked up an old HERBRAND 1829 w/script logo, SO 1" impact socket, 15/16" CHALLENGER and a 22mm HUSKY. All of the sockets will be used as opposed to collected. The HERBRAND will be preserved in my GJ toolbox. Also picked up a 13mm WILLIAMS BWM (whatever that stands for) another HERBRAND 1725 wrench and a RENAULT wrench. Most important: a Pabst Blue Ribbon church key! $8 for all of it.

Mattblast, that big disk sander is VERY cool! that would be getting restored and a place on prominence in my shop for sure. Probably with a Treadmill motor and variable speeds, and keeping the flat belt drive! Blending ultra modern with turn of the century antique! (Or maybe go through the variable speed motor you have if it will swing that big bad boy...)
