Hello

Has anyone removed the drawers and about how much do the drawers weigh? Im looking to transfer a kr537 but it is too heavy for my dad and I to lift on/off truck bed which is about 4 feet off the ground. My dad has a kr537 but it is occupied with his tools.

thanks

X2 I bought a KR637 (more modern version of the 537) a few weeks back at a garage sale. When I got home I had to put the top on the bottom box by my self. That was a real b**ch to do for a 5'7" ~180lb guy to do by himself. The hardest part IMHO is that there are no side handles and the bottom edge is not flat so the sheet metal joint kinda digs into your hand.

The drawers make up for, I would estimate ~40% of the overall box weight. They are really thick, well built and the 537 has a bunch of dividers in it, that add additional weight to each drawer. The top/front cover is also pretty heavy, but is no easy way to remove that without doing damage to the box.

yep them edges are finger biting SOB's

when i got my kr537/kra300e combo, i moved it in the back of my truck, i'll never try that stunt again :scared: had help from my 15 year old step son, and his friend

it's not so much the weight of the box, it's too wide and deep to get a good grip on. that KRA300 is one heavy SOB as well.

the older i get, the less i want to move boxes around. :D
i have a set of 26" wide boxes down in the basement, if i get any older, they may have to stay there :lol_hitti.

a few years ago, i moved all my tools, boxes parts, and equipment from my shop back to my garage, by myself. i put loaded top boxes into the back of my truck, along with some parts, storage bins, and equipment, put all the roller cabs and compressor onto a utility trailer.

Yep, when I bought my first 537 I unloaded it from my truck with the drawers in it, then got it into the garage. It's very heavy and hard to maneuver by yourself but it can be done. Short distances work best, and transferring the box to something else the same height are the way to go.

I could've put it on my KR 557 on my own, but once I added the three drawer middle, there was no way. Too high to transfer it to, I had a friend help and it was easy.

Unloaded a KR 560 off a pickup and down some ramps when I got it home. Took all the big drawers out and it was still heavy as hell. I wouldn't do that again by myself. :scared:

I didn't even try putting my KR 650 on top of the 655 by myself. ;)

Don't even think about moving any of these boxes with tools in them like that!

Well my dad is short and he would have to pick the box about collar bone high and then over onto the bed without crushing his fingers.

Hopefully removing the drawers will do the job.

If you've got any ditch or low spot in yard, drive your truck there so tailgate is at it's very lowest point. Then just roll the toolbox over there on driveway and sheets of plywood if necessary on grass/gravel, etc.

Eliminate as much lifting as possible ! ;) Heck rig up a ramp if you can to roll it up.

Tool box I bought from pawn shop I loaded myself on utility trailer by using a dolly and ratchet straps so it couldn't move around any on the dolly.

Good luck. Remember to lift with your legs !! ;)
