Finished up another bench and hauled it to the back yard. Added a mini foot stool that conveniently stores under the bench between the legs.:pimpflash

This is the first bench that I have completely wet sanded to remove rust stains and repainted the letters. Turned out pretty cool but reminds me of a hooters sign

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Needed to clean up some space in the garage as I don't think I was utilizing space very well....wasn't sure what I should do and I found this site. Got some ideas with building a bench type unit and putting the tool boxes in it...so i went at it.

This was my first time working with wood. I went and bought a compound miter saw (cheap 10" ryobi...did the job perfectly fine)...first time using a compound miter saw. I wanted to put each tool cabinet on each side...but...I measured once and the right side wouldn't fit. I was about 1/2 inch too small. I guess it worked out ok.

Anyhow...I guess it turned out OK. If you guys have any recommendations, I'd love to hear it. I want to build another one where everything is perfect fitting...but wood wasn't straight when I got it from Lowes. :dunno:

Looks like a good enough job for your first. I've got a few suggestions for future benches if you are interested.

Wood from Lowes/Home Depot is never straight. Never has been, and never will be. And if it ever is somewhat straight, it will move once it dries.

Are you on the Triumph675.net forum? I've got an 08 Daytona.

I woke up at 0315 and headed to the shop. I knew I needed to take care of a couple thing in town and all that worked into my day. The shop is a mess and I'm trying to sell this air compressor, so I boxed up all the big pieces.:willy_nil Returned to the house at 2100.

I found some wing nuts to fix the signal wires going to the ac compressor from where the lawn guy cut it with the weed wacker..... So that's all i did today was pull out some tools and a couple of wing nuts to fix the AC.

Oh well it makes for a happy wife and a happy wife is easier to convince I need a bigger garage! LOL

Just......is that a vinyl printer? I'm assuming it is. And do you make decals and such?

Oh and BTW....you won't get straight wood from Lowes. If you have a local lumberyard around, check with them. Normally they get better lumber in as contractors don't like working with **** lumber out of the box stores.

Wow, let me guess, you also only buy american because others will break before you get home, right?

Where did that come from?

It is pretty widely known that dimensional lumber from the big box stores is still pretty wet. Wet wood moves as it dries. That's why it takes forever to dig through a stack of lumber at lowes/home depot to find something useable.

I did get my car detailed in it over the weekend. Today I just fooled around in it trying to think of a better way to get my truck, bike, and DD in there without freaking out the wife when she pulls her DD in.

I'll agree that there are good pallets and bad pallets. I have never had a problem asking them to pull down a fresh pallet if I've dug through 30 or more pieces and found no usable material.

I've never had a problem with built materials warping after drying, but I don't buy a pallet and let it sit out in the sun to dry either, I use it.

Nice work on the grips. Never have liked smooth finished grips.

Yea. I seriously felt like I was going to drop the gun at any time. Nice sharp checkering is key. And I must say... after using the CA Glue technique on the checkering, these grips have some serious bite.

here is the finished product...

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Wife says sliding doors on minivan don't work (AGAIN!). Said the only way to open them is manually, they won't open by themselves. I asked, "are they locked?" "No", she says.

So I go out there, and try to open them, sure enough, have to pull them open. I check inside the car,AND LOW AND BEHOLD, the kill switch is turned off!!

Must have been bumped by the guys washing the car before her trip.

I flipped the switch. Sent her a bill.

Started work on a horizontal bandsaw stand out of scrap wood, crushed my wedding ring into an oval shape so it fits better, stretched the dogs paracord collar (it doesn't have any adjustment aside from stretching it with weights.)

35 years ago, while involved in law enforcement I bought a S&W model14, 6" .38 from a Sergeant that was moving to the DA's office. The grips were custom made by an officer at Santa Ana P.D..He was the only guy doing it at the time.

Nice work on those grips. Do you have a jig for that? Or are you that good free-handing it?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I picked up a new tip on restorations, painting raised and indented numbers, letters, etc. For indented items use a crayon. Rub it over the surface until the grooves are filled, then clean off the rest. Supposedly, the crayon will stay for years to come, but I put a clear coat on top to seal it in. The excess crayon was a little tough to clean up and although the pic doesn't show it, the surface was left with a slightly dark residue. Not bad for a first time...

I replaced the rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes on one of our Jeep Cherokees. It was plenty hot here in central Florida today but fun anyway.

Re-stacked the oak I bought for my bench up on the wall to clear room out. Bought about 67 bdft of walnut off of craigslist for a coffee table/arm chair build this fall/winter. Also got that small slab of maple thrown in that's in the foreground.
