Chinuse mechanics use snap on and what not, like us. Not so much pride as it us using a quality tool that feels good to the user. The pride is in the quality and ownership. Using something made in your county, total bonus pride.

I've always wondered that too. With all the foreign **** we get stuck with, is there places, like china, value there own stuff more than we do? Maybe over seas harbor freight is big money stuff lol

When it comes to styles, clothes, items, they actually want American brands regardless of where they're being made. I suspect they view western culture as the most modern so that's where the demand is. COO seems to matter little.

From my experience some countries such as Germany and England have a COO preference for their own country like we do. I've always kinda wondered about Asia myself.

Seen a picture of alanabi's race shop in Qatar it was lined in snap on boxes.

Yep, because Qatar could buy WHATEVER it wants . . . . richest little spot in world due to MASSIVE reserves of Oil and Natural Gas. They are a notch above UAE (United Arab Emirates) which is also super rich . . . ie city of Dubai which has INDOOR snow ski resort . . in middle of desert !!!

I like USA/German/Brit tools (not many left now).

I like the old Britool/Thorex/Sykes Pickavant tools I have.

I think the Japanese probably take pride in their own tools looking at Ko-Ken Nepros and KTC out of the Asian countries. Taiwan and China will have caught up within the next few years if the quality of some of their products is anything to go by.

That said I don't think they will ever have that sense of identity or quirkiness you get with British/German/American or Japanese goods

Most people love American tools because traditionally, they are the best! Strangely this often seems to be overlooked, even by managers of tool companies, who sometimes think they can buy in any old trash, put their name on it, and expect people to buy it because it's an "American brand"!

In other countries, people who like good tools will still want to buy good tools, so they will buy U.S. made tools, wherever they are. They will also buy tools made in the U.K. Germany, France and so on!

Here in the U.K. I have a lot of British made tools. There are various reasons for that. Domestically produced tools are a bit cheaper than those that have to be imported from Europe ( and a lot cheaper than those from the U.S.) for a similar tool. So if I need something like a rubber mallet I'll buy the British made one for £7, rather than the imported one for £27! I also find that U.S. made tools do tend to be produced to some very fixed patterns, but not others, so if I want a pair of combination pliers (not slip joint or Linemans) I have to buy British or German.

I do, however, love U.S. tools. I own wrenches and socket wrenches from many mnufacturers, and consider that the U.S. made ones from Snap On (and Blackhawk before that) are the finest available! They have also proven themselves to be durable, and thus a good investment, and they are enjoyable to use! I will therefore often elect to buy a U.S. made tool, despite it's higher price!

i only buy tools that i like, mostly from smaller companies that do make their tools, since i can afford to be picky and also take my time for researching what's best for me before buying(and never on credit).

some of the things that i do care about after fit for my needs is quality: better buy once than having to replace continually sh!tty tools and country of origin and work conditions even if sometimes it costs me a little bit more. i do have some problems with brands that think marketing and brand-whoring is all and with brands that prefer to ship jobs to sub-contractors in workers hellholes or that think that because i'm not in the US of A i shouldn't have the same warranty terms on the exact same tools.

beside i'm not that much of a brand ***** that needs to have everything in my toolboxes that matches, except the Hello Kitty! stickers on them of course! :D

The mexican guys around here wont touch imported tools. They only buy mac and so. One guy was looking at 1/2 impacts and he scoffed at my earthquake recomendation and bought a mg725 for removing wheels on hondas.

I like to buy quality first. Where they are made comes second. I started collecting tools in 1979 when I was 16, so most of my tools are made in the USA. There are some exceptions, like my German pliers and some Swiss made files.

I've done scads of travel in my life. No doubt Japanese, Germans and French favor their home products more so than Americans favor their own. I would say the rest of Europe is about equal to USA. The rest of the world probably favors imports over their home products.

I don't mean to say it is right or wrong, but I think most tool buyers the world over prefer low price over quality or COO. Professionals are a different story.

I know i'd like to try some hazet and koken, kind of tired with snappy. In terms china men and what they like, they will pay a higher premium than we do for us products.
