Nothing yet -- spent the morning taking a couple kitties to the vet. As soon as I cool off a bit and finish with lunch, I'll pick up with more polishing on these M/Ts.

View attachment 276814

When they're done, they'll be a gloss black with a wicked rainbow metallic topcoat ...

Drain/fill on wife's ATF. I forgot how bad new ATF smells.

Yes it does!

I was changing my wife's clutch in a friend's garage years ago and one of the quarts was on its side in the front seat and apparently it was missing the foil seal (nor should one be trusted anyway). So when we went to get the quarts to refill, saw one had dumped mostly out into the leather seat! :shocking:

Nope, didn't come out very well. We traded the car to someone just a couple months later!

Looks like a good enough job for your first. I've got a few suggestions for future benches if you are interested.

Wood from Lowes/Home Depot is never straight. Never has been, and never will be. And if it ever is somewhat straight, it will move once it dries.

Are you on the Triumph675.net forum? I've got an 08 Daytona.

Sure....what suggestions do you have? I'm open to any suggestions. After it was built, I definitely know of one improvements I can make...measure twice, cut once...lol

I am a member of Triumph675.net. I have a 2013' 675R...my first bike. My name on there is GOT8SPD.

Just......is that a vinyl printer? I'm assuming it is. And do you make decals and such?

Don't see many plotters set up in garages. Copy a lot of blueprints do ya?

It's actually an HP DesignJet Z6100. It's an 8-color photographic wide format printer. I print a lot of canvas and photographic posters. It's a small side business I have. Originally a $15,000 printer, I got it for $2500. It has a billion miles of usage on it, but I was previously a field service engineer for wide format printers so I can service the thing myself.

BTW...been working on this the past few days...Just gotta plastidip the mirrors black.

Here's a snippet of what I've been helping a friend with in my shop. We are putting an old school 5.0 H.O. from a '92 Notchback Fox-Body into his 1990 Nissan 240SX road race car. The weight difference believe it or not from the stock KA24 and ****** vs. the 302 and T5 is only +44 lbs. Considering it will be back 6" further than stock, the weight distribution will even be better.

Wow, let me guess, you also only buy american because others will break before you get home, right?

Yea. I seriously felt like I was going to drop the gun at any time. Nice sharp checkering is key. And I must say... after using the CA Glue technique on the checkering, these grips have some serious bite.

here is the finished product...

Grips_Done_1_zps8c48e2b9.jpg

hogue_grips_done2_zps01ac70ab.jpg

That's a hell of a feeling :eyecrazy: I dropped a $25,000 aircraft light one time because I was told to use extra caution and DO NOT BREAK IT. I had the light laying on a shoprag on my bench and had a pait of verniers in my back pocket. I turned to get something out of my toolbox, the verniers caught the shoprag, and pulled it and the light off of my workbench.:scared:

BTW....beautiful gun :thumbup::thumbup:

Dealership wanted $29.00 to replace a burned out tag light. I passed, then the second went out. Went to A-Zone and got 2 bulbs for 5.00! Spent 20.00 for the tool to pull out the plastic plugs that held the truck liner. Still ahead of dealership and have the tool when needed again.

View of the garage. And on the floor: New set of wheels for the G collected today :)

I immidiately painted the rims with rubberspray to protect them, and I also think black looked a lot better. Some finishing details tomorrow, and then put them on the car.

Replaced a MISSING A/C compressor clutch bolt on the wife's Corolla. Clutch was 3/8" from the pulley. No wonder the A/C never turned on.

Now we're all happy again.

Assembled A 20 gallon HF parts Washer then moved the old parts washer. put the new one in its place and transfered the cleaning solution from the old to the new. Old parts washer was 20 yrs. old sprung a leak in the 30 gallon drum at the bottom seam. Had to go to scrap yard anyway just add that to it. Also fixed rear brakes on the boys Mazda 6 what a PIA. Tomorrow flush the wifes radiator and put a new dual exhaust on my truck.:rocker:

Not exactly in the garage but remodeling my bathroom. At the moment building drywall construction out of the metal profiles usually used here. What makes me proud is using my granddads tin snips he gave me 'bout 15years ago.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

We (our family) had a garage sale for my father who is down sizing to a unit, 83 years of accumulated "stuff" as dad was and still is an avid garage sale junkie himself.
This was sale number 2 with at least 1 more to come.
I was fortunate to inherit some tools, useful bits and pieces and a really nice 50s industrial stool for my own workshop.
Dad had some difficulty in understanding just why he did not sell one of his 107 vhs video tapes priced at 50 cents each, and even cheaper if you brought them by the dozen.:lol_hitti

I brought my toolbox home from work. My buddy and my next door neighbor's son helped. Now my crowded 1 car garage is truly full! Now I get to clean it as it got very dirty sitting there. At least I have access to ALL my tools!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Got an 'oil pressure sensor' error on my 300C earlier this week so asked how much the dealer would charge to replace it. $640.

I said, "No, thanks" and bought the part for $60. Paid another $40 for a 1/2" ratcheting breaker breaker bar from Princess Auto and a 1 1/16" socket from Canadian Tire for $12 and 5 hours later, all done :)

If I had to do it again, I could probably get it done in under two hours. The sensor is hidden behind the alternator and getting the alternator off was an ordeal .. my craftsman 3/8" ratchet, normally has no problems with 15mm bolts, but the 3 holding the alternator must have been tightened by Thor himself. My 24" 1/2" breaker bar would have made easy work of it but there wasn't enough room to turn the bolt so I figured I'd get a new tool and make this job easier.

The 1/2" ratcheting bar from PA has 72 teeth and worked great! The number of teeth meant I could apply a lot of force while having a very tight space to work in.

Once the new sensor was in, connected the battery - no more codes! Took it around the block to make sure it wasn't leaking from anywhere and then called it a good days work.

Sometimes when I'm working on cars, I really scratch my head at some of engineering decisions made. Wouldn't you, as an engineer, put your hand up at some committee meeting and say, "Um, I don't think putting this sensor behind the alternator is a good idea. Why not just position a few inches away so there is clear access to it?"

Oh, don't even get me started on the fiddly clip holding the connector onto the sensor. You have to push a plastic clip away and then hold down a teeny, tiny tab while pulling away at the same time. All this while holding the assembly with two fingers because it obviously wasn't made for a grown mans hand /rantoff.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I feel your frustration.

Believe me when I say there are Best Practice Service Guides myself and others in my group at GM fight to have applied.

While we are present at all levels of design --> production, real-estate is a vigorously fought over issue.

Our goal is to have all sensors accessible without removing components. Decisions are made by chief engineers after all involved groups present the best business cases.

Service has had to fight the same fight on different products more often than we'd like.

You'd think once we convinced chief A to keep the fuel rail pressure tap (Schroeder valve), in spite of saving $0.09/ vehicle we wouldn't have to fight that battle to keep the pressure tap with chief B, C, ...

But, I recall that issue coming back 3x in the last 10 years.

Sorry that we don't win more than we do; there always seems to be another bright young release engineer wanting to save $$ and save the company at the cost of serviceability.

Hey Torqueman2002, glad to hear someone is fighting the good fight :)

There should be a rule .. each engineer has to service the part they designed in a fully manufactured car with 50k on it :) I'm betting some of the weirder decisions would soon disappear.

Yes!

At minimum, they should serve 2 years in the service. :lol_hitti

I have been in some of those meetings. The engineers could easily do a better design but they are not in charge, MBA bean counters are. Engineers are tasked to make it as cheap to manufacture as possible even if it makes for a maintenance nightmare. MBAs think no farther than maximizing the next quarters profit.

Cleaned up the garage and the work shop. Getting rid off the junk that my pack rat tendencies caused me to save. Still have a long way to go to make it a livable workable shop.

Can we make that 50k with at least a couple salty rust belt winters? Oh, and they have to do the repair on the coldest day of winter in an unheated garage.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Removed the trailer ball from my ATV. Of course it had 6 years of gunk and **** and rust and **** and dirt and **** all over it. Cleaned her up and doused it in PB Blaster. No joy until I got my (new) HF trailer ball wrench on the nut, a monkey wrench and cheater on the ball and made some serious grunting noises. I am convinced the grunting helped....my wife, not so much :)
