These are the codes for them, search google for those codes, and you should get tons of hits. Those are the same codes they've been using for Vise Grips since the early 20th century.

7cr = curved
7r = straight
7wr = with wire cutter

Edit - I think the picture is wrong in the ToolKing link. That looks like the wire cutter version. You've got to go by the model number on Vise Grips I guess, looks like the pictures on the sites are wrong depending on the website.

If you click on each of the links I have above they both are 7cr but different jaws on them. I like the ones shown on the Home Depot site but want to make sure what ones ill get from ACE

I cleaned out my local Ace, scoring the one pair of straight jaws they had. :lol_hitti:

Don't have much use for the small ones, so I'm happy with the one I was able to get.

All of their Cman was NOS USA stuff, too bad they don't go on sale. I'd buy a set of USA thin profiles for the heck of it.

If you are getting 25 bucks worth of the Irwin deals at your local Ace store, then bring this coupon along and get a free 3 pack of Ace branded paint roller covers. (Credit - Slickdeals)

I cleaned out all of the 6" quick clamps at one of my local stores. I teach sculpture and ceramics at a high school and these are perfect for the price.

Now that I'm in Ohio for the weekend I might have to find another store to scope out.

Got 4 vice grips last night and the saw and two clamps today. I love ship to store. Ace and Northern both have it and it saves time and money. Order at my convenience, pick it up when it comes in, no waiting to check out.

I don't understand the rush here to buy inferior Chinese vice-grips... I paid a bit more and got USA Made (not just USA assembled with foreign parts, they had those to and I passed them up) Vise Grips at Sears a couple of months ago. Price was under $10.00 each plus I had SYWR points that discounted it further...

To me, the chinese ones work just as good at clamping metal together as the US ones. I was able to get 2 7r's, 1 7cr, and 1 wr. There was a guy behind me that saw how cheap they were and asked where I got them. Said he was gonna buy the rest.

Picked up a pair today to give as a gift. I don't get into Ace much as there isn't one close. I was disappointed in their Cman selection, they had few to no open stock items or even smaller sets. They did have some decent deals on stuff looking around.

Picked up one of each. Compared the China to USA. The China version is very similar to the USA version. Very slight difference. It's not like Sears when you compare a USA wrench to a China wrench and the China version is obviously lower quality. The Vise Grips are very close in quality from what I can tell.

Now I have enough Vise Grips to warrant moving them to their own drawer, instead of being mixed in my my pliers.

can't find them

Do you have a paper Labor Day sale flyer?

This could possibly be a regional special, but in the past they were national sales, so it doesn't seem likely. Of course there will be the usual set of stores not participating.

Ace is all franchise (as far as I am aware) so the selection varies greatly by store. My local store was bought out recently from the old lady/Satan that owned it and now carries about 3 times more items than ever before.

Local Ace had the 7'' curved and straight marked at $15 on the shelves, but rung up as $5 each. Also in the flyer were the Irwin Quick Grip 6'' clamps, but there was only one in store (which I bought). Lastly, they had a two pack of Irwin pliers down to $10, but then down to $5 for Ace Rewards members. They're basic pliers, but will be useful. The pliers come off special in a few days (not in labor day sale).

Total bill $43 incl tax for 6 vice grips, one quick clamp and two pair of pliers ... I'm happy with that.

Note: Country of Origin for the vice grips was China for all, they had no old stock. At $5 I can live with that though.

Thanks for the tip. I found a USA 7cr at my local ACE, at the very back of the group (last one). Slick deal for $5. The only other USA made ones they had were a 9" needle-nose type 9LN and a locking C-clamp 11R, but at $20 and $26 I didn't need them enough to buy them. I already have a drawer full

Grabbed one of each 7" straight and curved. ill check the other stores for USA made

The China grips seem to have slightly loose rivets and a non chrome finish. No china stamping anywhere I can see. The Allen keyway in the knob is a big plus!

My local Ace had the deals going! I picked up 3 for my trunk tool kits! No USA made pliers on the rack though :(

Thanks OP.

Unfortunately still full price at my local Ace. Guy said he had no idea what $5 deal I was talking about. Bummer. I may call the other stores a little further away.

Also, they had a few Taiwan and a few China made pliers. No USA.

When I went in to get a circular this A.M. they had no endcaps stocked with the Irwin or Stanely deals.
This afternoon when I went in they were stocked, but no NOS.

Of the 3 stores I visited, only one refused to honor the $5 deal. These china VGs have bad jaw alignment when closed. Even my worn out junkyard set of USA pliers align perfectly when clamped.

They weren't in my local store flyer and I had to hunt a bit to find them because they were on the bottom row of an end cap at the very back of the store. Almost like they were hiding.

I bought 4 pairs, 1 with curved jaws and 3 with straight jaws. For what its worth the fit and finish on these seems every bit as good as my older USA Vise Grips, they aren't exactly a precision tool. As long as they can hold up to the abuse Vise Grips tend to get I'm happy.

I compared my USA ones to the Chinese ones and other than the Made In USA stamp on the handle, they looked identical in terms of fit and finish. The only thing I couldn't verify was the strength of the steel. Flexing jaws = bad news
