CH Air Compressor, would you buy it?

Hey guys, looking for some input on a Campbell Hausfeld Compressor I found on CL today.

It is a VT6275 with supposedly an hour or so of actual use.

Here are the specs on it CH Compressor

60 gallon
3.2 HP running
Vertical tank
Cast iron, twin cylinder, oil lubricated pump
Up to 5000 hrs extended life
35% quieter and 60 degrees cooler than aluminum pumps
ASME code tank
3/4" discharge port
Integrated, easy-to-read gauges
230V motor
Air flter
135 PSI max
11.8 SCFM at 40 PSI
10.2 SCFM at 90 PSI
Dimensions: 70.5"H x 27.5"W x 29.5"D
3 year limited warranty

The guy is asking 400... at most I'd give him 320 since I have to drive and I can buy a new one for 500. From the pictures it looks like he runs a body shop, and states he only put an hour of so use on it. Maybe his main one was down and he bought it to finish a job? It looks like its still on the shipping pallet so maybe he did only use for a few hours eh?

This would be for general air tool use and to run a hypertherm powermax 45 which will require 6cf @ 90psi from what I've read. Seem's like a good enough deal to me, would you say its worth buying or should I Just go for new one / better model. Any info is appreciated, thanks for reading!

If you can believe the guy about such low useage, then be sure to bring along printout of the Tractor Supply price of $399 on brand new IR compressor. That's your pricing leverage, and you can "sell the idea" that the IR is a better compressor as well.

For used CH compressor . . . even if you believe the 1 hr (who buys something and sells with just 1 hr use??) . . . then shoot for $300 as your max price. Start negotiating at $250 which is 1/2 of the Ace Hardware new price for that CH compressor. Likely you can end up in the $300 to $320 range.

I'd bet if guy REALLY runs a bodyshop, he would know better than to buy such a small compressor. It may have been a barter for some body work that the guy did . . . Seller might be 2nd owner.

Ohh didn't see that post until recently, waiting on a call back from home depot right now ... need's manager approval so hopefully it goes through. Called the store in the next town over since they've worked with me better than the local one in the past so here's hoping!:beer:

No luck with home depot, got a call back from the manager who said "Its an HD online item, so I can't honor the price match. If it was something we stocked or had stocked in the past I would do it no problem " Dang, oh well time to try Lowes tomorrow.

Just looked at TSC flyer. they have the same CH 60 gallon for $429.99 and you get a free 2 gallon CH compressor besides. Sale good 8-28 to 9-2

That is the same compressor I bought new about 8-9 years ago for just a shade under $400 branded as a Husky. Works great for what I do. I'd say he's a little out of line on the price unless it really is a virtually brand new unit.

I wouldn't discount that someone bought the compressor to do a single job, then turns around and sells it. I've seen it done many times.

What about looking for a more industrial type compressor. One of the old kellog, champion, quincy, IR's or even and older CH. They tend to be built like tanks and can usually be had for pretty cheap. I wouldn't pay $400 for that unit. It may not have been used much, but it may have been used hard for limited time. Probably, especially since it came out of a body shop.

Just my 2¢ :beer:
