I finally decided on a finish for the cabinets I built over the winter. Went with a honey maple gel stain and satin poly finish. It did not get quite as dark as I wanted. As an additional detail, I painted the rabbit in the doors blue to give some contrasting color.

If that is Birch ply you made those out of, good luck on getting them any darker. Birch does not like stain very well.

But other than that.....Super job  The pinstripe is just enough that it adds some contrast. I gave away some nice wood cabinets to a buddy of mine that didn't have any storage place at all in his garage, plus I bout 18 of the Lowes special Gladiator sale that went on. At times, I sort of miss the wood cabinets I had. They were a little more storage worthy than the Gladiators. I may just change things out one day :dunno:

I really like what you have done here. A great use of the space, and full of good ideas for garages of all sizes. It is obvious you take pride in what you build.

The shelf you put up by the garage door rail gave me a great idea for some much needed shelving for longer term storage. Thanks for posting it.

Got tired of my screwdrivers rolling around in my box so I made a holder

Sweet holder, made out of wood or plastic bar stock? ... I have those foam ones that stick to the drawer of my cabinet. It holds but I been thinking I do not need something that holds them so tight. I like how yours is made.
Is it double taped down or screwed down?

Great job on the garage too !

I made it from a scrap piece of pine. I sprayed it with black Plastidip to give it more texture. I cut the piece so it would fit snug in the drawer so I didn't have to physically secure it to the drawer.

This is a stellar, stellar garage. I applaud all the work you've done! How far away from the wall did you end up having to hang the cabinet to keep the cabinet door from interfering with the garage door track?

Another update coming soon - I started a build on a tool cabinet that will hang on the wall. It will house hammers, chisels, files, long screwdrivers, any other abnormally long items that fit awkwardly or not at all in my tool box.

Here's what I have so far with the tool cabinet. It should provide quite a bit of storage (more than I was expecting). The fronts of the doors will be finished off like my other cabinet.

That's a good question. Fords have been in my family for a long time. I've had 4 Fords; 2 Explorers, Mustang, and currently an F150.

Wow! Inspiring work. Can you tell us more about the work pad that was on your benchtop in a couple photos? Thanks for sharing!
