zk, I hoped they were Craftsman, after the wire wheel treatment, I can't find a mark anywhere...:dunno:

The wire wheeling probably did them in. They are etched real lightly. I have two pairs. One on the right I got in a craftsman pliers package I bought back in my early teens, my first pliers. Love them, use em all the time. The pair on the left I picked up at a garage sale earlier this year for 50¢ IIRC. They are just a good solid pair of flush pliers IMHO.

You did well for $5

Thanks  I seem to be a magnet for misc slip joint pliers recently :lol_hitti I just couldn't leave the orange handle behind for 25¢. I really want to drill it out and make a long 3/8 spinner with it and the long ext, but I just can't bring myself to damage a good screwdriver. I saw a bunch of other stuff misc claw hammers, battery-less drills and the like but I really didn't need them, nor were they very cheap IMHO.

BTW, nice grinder. And thanks for not beating the guy up too bad, sounds like he was in a tough spot

Ok today I got paid to go to garage sales. Took our clients at work to a citywide garage sale in a nearby town. Saw some ok to cool stuff. No real great tool finds, that I could afford. Waiting for an auction in a couple of weeks that has some good stuff. There was a Do-all machine for 600 dollars and a Lincoln tombstone for 150 at one sale though so there was some cool stuff. All I brought home was this little thing. Kinda cool and at least car related. Sorry for the sideways iPhone picture.

Sorry but that is WAY COOL. I love that kind of stuff!

HUGE fan of the old books! I bought a book on space flight and one on jet flight today as well, both printed in 1969. Kids/teens books, but I like em!

Not a garage sale but I saw a block grinder come up on CL last night for $50 obo with work bench. There was no picture, only one from the web with the same model number. I emailed them with an offer of $20-25 and got a call this evening. After speaking with the guy, he mentioned he was hurting right now and just needed some cash for groceries and for me to come by and make an offer. When I got there, it was a young guy(25ish), he said his mother had just passed away and he had no job, just wanted some grocery money to get by. I offered him $40(all I brought with) and told him to keep the bench and try to sell it for additional cash. He thanked me and told me to grab some tools too, since I had gave him more than my original offer. I picked out a Walden socket box(empty), a Craftsman and Williams 8" adjustable and we shook hands. I wish I could have helped him more, but in reality, I can't even help myself...
:(

Well done, Nine!

Yeah man, the pliers are rough ground, making me think offshore. I have a pair from HF like this for years and they are real close by memory. I'll have to see if I can dig them up to compare. You can see the castings on these are slightly different near the handles. And yeah man, the guy was hurting. We talked for a bit after the deal, I left with a little different perspective on my personal situation.

Today's haul before the rain hit. I went to 2 garage sale but they were bust due to they weren't open or didn't exist!!!

So I went to the trade day and I got these storage bins as I hate one of the set I already got and like these better, and the sears made in USA glue gun with glue sticks. $10 for all.

Also the blue storage bin is from yesterday I gave $3 for it.

I would have taken pics of the scissor jack but it's in the popup and it's raining right now.

Final find of the weekend. Reed 3-1/2" machinist vise. This is the heaviest little 3-1/2" vise I've ever seen. Nearly perfect for $15.

I haven't found many sales advertised lately that sound good, but I went to three today just because I was out and around and saw the signs. First - no sale, but the signs were still up . Second, nothing but furniture and not shop storage type furniture. Third, quite a few tools, but mostly either old rusty stuff from the pre-chrome era or modern rusty Taiwan junk. I did find a few bundles of interesting wrenches priced $3 - $5. I guess they were eager to sell- I was the only customer and it didn't look like there were any empty spaces where stuff had been. So, I made an offer and got it all for $11. 27 of them are cheapies from Taiwan or China - mostly no-names. The remaining 18 are pretty nice, all USA Craftsman, Cornwell, Husky, Thorsen, S-K, Lectrolite. Not too bad since I was already there. And, it wasn't even too hot - under 100 anyway.

I like that chantilever!!!

Nice box Crew  looks to be in really good shape, especially for the price.

Ty Ty Ty :rocker:

it has some scratches, but it's not banged up at all.

now i gotta figure out what to do with it :headscrat

overheard the seller tell someone else $20 as i was walking by.
came back around 15 minutes later it was still sitting there, when i asked, she came down to $15.
i looked it over again, pulled 2 $5 out of my pocket and she didnt hesitate.

everything she was selling looked like "Leftovers" from a divorce...
you dont see many "well kept" mid 40's women sitting in a mercedes selling "man stuff" at an out of the way flea mkt.

both flea mkts we hit this morning had quite a few people looking, and nobody was buying.
most of the prices i heard quoted to were waayyyyy out of the ballpark.

OK I'm supposed to be working on the latest "Honey-Do" but needed a break, and I'd taken some pics before everyone else was up.

Of what? Oh yeah.. Yesterday I got an offer for "three tubs of old tools and two tool boxes, but ya gotta take em all!"

This project was in full swing but I got over there late afternoon, and picked them up.

The "2 boxes" was in carry box, and 1 semi decent tray, probably from a top chest. No pics yet. but unimpressive... :dunno:

A couple of the tubs as teasers (Forgot to shoot #3 before digging it out...)

attachment.php

attachment.php

I'll start with tools (yes there was a lot of "just throw it away or recycle it" going on...)

Surprisingly I only found one cheap *** import gear puller, plus some older cheap screwdrivers of unknown origin. Overall the stuff that was there was decent above average to pretty good. with just a few top quality pieces:

In the interest of time (Project...) I'll only comment on the more notable tools:

The knives are old and decent if not top drawer.

attachment.php

All five of the ratchet wrenches are different brands! Including Duro Chrome and Indestro. The brass (I think, I doubt it is BeCu) is an 8 ox and had a metal tube handle.

attachment.php

The small (Black) snap ring pliers are true arc (not sure what the thumb screw id for. limit spread? hold them closed? :dunno: )

attachment.php

The impact driver appears to be NOS unused?

attachment.php

large Starrett Tap handle, and the largest Drift punch is a Plvmb, the next two are Bonney

More stuff:

Tee handle Allens made the way MEN made them back in the day! :D

attachment.php

More Allens, the set in the little metal case is interesting:

attachment.php

4 Stanley Yankee ratcheting drivers adn one off brand.

attachment.php

Lots of steel scales, adn one odd lightweight square with inces adn Metric scales.

attachment.php

Look sot be a really old Trimo 6" pipe wrench, hte torque handle is Proto, and the ground down Crows foot is Bonney (Someone REALLY needed clearance...)

attachment.php

Probably the most valuable part of the haul; a lot of burrs, rotary files, small grinding wheels, and some reamers.

attachment.php

these are mostly if not all Apex:

attachment.php

There is more, but all I have time for right now, maybe late today or tomorrow...

2 flea markets today, slim pickings for the most part due to early rain.

I found a pair of Peterson/DeWitt #7R visegrips, a pair of Utica Tools #512-8 bent nose pliers, and a Cman =V= 3/8dr 12pt 9/16" swivel socket that I needed to complete a boxed set. (it was in a tray full of Cman sockets marked "$4.50 ALL", but the seller wanted $3ea, I only bought the one I needed and walked away) I paid $3 ea. Total $9 today.

I also found a neoprene gasket for an outdoor spotlight on the ground. FREEBIE ! :rocker:

First thing I did with mine is fill it w/ sockets and wrenches. There's a LOT of space in the bottom for that. The problem is trying to lift it when its full.

Score by the way.

Snagged these from my boss, he wanted them out of his storage area, and I promised I would give them a good home and not scrap them out. They are Navy issued electronics racks, one is about 3 feet high, one is 4 feet, and one is almost 6 feet high. Made entirely out of thick aluminum, they are lighter than they appear. The wood in the middle is a sheet of marine-grade plywood that didn't look a day older even after spending 2 years out in the rain, it came with the rest.

The racks will be stored by me for a little while until I can figure out how I can use them effectively WITHOUT cutting them up or modifying them. They would make great storage shelves for some of my heavier tool boxes and bins, just wish two of them were the same height so I could make another bench out of them and the plywood. Anyways, they are cool, a piece of history, and I'm glad to have them, even if I don't know exactly what for yet.

Oh and the price - FREE !!

Any idea where to buy that plywood?

And, my two pennies....my vote is it is A-Ok to precisely cut them up as long as you are re-purposing them to a good cause, which you are. I see no shame in that. As long as it is a good home, I see no problem. But, that's just MHO....:thumbup:

I give a you **** on the taps and die sets. Those are a hard find here in any kind of shape.

Thank you sir. They are in excellent condition. They were dude's grandpas. And, according to him, said grandpa was the first Police officer to get a motorcycle. That was for LAPD. He rode a horse before that. Grandpa wa also the Rangemaster at our local gun range, which has since closed down. Cool history here...

Who in their right mind sells money :lol_hitti

You robbed someone Dave

Proto soft face hammer from the flea market $6. Luckily, "Shorty" doesn't know Proto had green hex handles and the writing was too small for him to read or it would have been $26...

Picked this up today off of CL from a retired welder. He just posted an "online garage sale" including the house! I got there just after another guy who was after it and his O/A gear and the welder. He said that I called first and got first shot at it, so $35.00 later it went into the back of the car. Then he showed us his shop he's prepping for an open sale next weekend. No fireworks there...yet.
Got a heavy gauge ancient toolbox for my select few museum pieces, a small body hammer, spark plug cleaner plus a bunch of sand for it, and the probe light for $5.
I'm hoping I did good on the buzz box. Said he got it in the early 60's. Its a Lincoln 220V with an extended cord. Man, its heavy.

I think you'll be very happy with that welder.

I've bought marine plywood at the big box store.

...and I agree that I would cut the cabinets down or maybe turn them on their sides and make drawers to fit?

Yes, some of the big box stores carry marine grade plywood, it's not cheap but it will last for a long time.

I don't really want to cut down the cabinets, but maybe I can stack them for shelving. I always have that nagging feeling when I cut up something unique that is has a special purpose that is worth a lot to someone else, and if I modify it for good, it's lost forever. So, to keep that voice quiet, will keep them whole, and use them as they are.

But the drawer idea is good - might have to fab up a couple simple steel drawers to fit the openings.

Here's Saturdays pickings!

Not a lot of sales going on around here. But there is this one guy that runs a sale every half a year or so. Always a massive sale and always has tools in the mix. Last time I passed up a Cman =V= spinner that had a big ball of electrical tape on the end of it. It was iffy for the $5 he was asking. Tape = missing bearing.
Got there and loaded up on a couple of trays of unsorted stuff for $1, $2, and $3. Got the hand press for $3. A couple of misc wrenches for a buck a pop, including a Jones 2 way cable stripper. Too much to list, but after sorting the good form bad out of the trays I ended up with a load of sockets, Allan wrenches, ratchet, pliers, etc. All Craftsman! The shoebox & tray is all the chaff from various Asian countries.
I found that spinner plus a Blackhawk. Spent the asked $3 on the BH and $5 on the spinner. Ends up that the ball of tape had a couple of sockets taped together for no reason. Its in better shape than the one I have in my box!
Free pile from another sale yielded a new gallon of paint stripper, turpentine, sealant, and an almost full tube of Blue Seal. Also got the Sun box there! Too cool! The wooden box was while I was driving thru town.
I saw that box about two weeks ago way out in the county at a sale for $20. Its an old portable darkroom and it was full of plates from box cameras. All I wanted was the switch off the end of it, just not bad enough to pay twenty for it. Someone bought it, looted the plates, and set it out for free not far from where I live. Love it when a plan comes together.
Almost left out the price gun. Almost new from a guy that closed a store he had. Need it for our upcoming garage sale.

First Stop: No go, closed... was tryin to hit up my $.25 socket guy, lol.

Second Stop: Meh, $13 for this haul:

Cool older little 3.5" vise, but seem fairly common. The sockets were Bonney (screwdriver), SK, Easco, CMan, and Wright 12 pt universal.
