Some older stuff this weekend:

Plomb Los Angeles small metal box. Old heavy solid brass Craftsman hose spray nozzle. Adjust the spray with the round knob. English hack saw blade holder. Old vintage chalk string marker. Pipe wrench with hex adjusting nut.

Third stop... member Ritzblitz got the OK for me to come see this little old lady's house. Basically, it was a picker style clean up through a huge barn and basement. Her husband was an auction addict and bought basically everything he thought had value. He was in the Marines through the Korean war and later became a helicopter mechanic....






Possibly got his original tool box... search high and low around the barn for the top, but I have a feeling the way this box was set up, he may never of had a top for it. late 40's/50's era CMan with 3 drawers and a big bottom. Perfect for under my work bench for router bits, drill bits, saw blades, etc.


if it works, should be great for that '39 GE radio I'm restoring.

$100 for the haul, which is fair... more than I wanted to spend today, but definitely fair.

Here's some pics of the hauls I had of recent. The Simplex No. 400 was from yesterday on my way back from an auction. I could have kicked myself after I stopped and got it. The guy told me that he had a really big one he sold earlier that morning, and my dumb a$$ passed right by his house on my way to the auction. I was too anxious to miss out on some stuff I wanted at the auction .

Anyway, I scored this for $6. I was afraid to ask how much he sold the big one for let alone the weight and maker. Oh well you live and learn. The others were the scores at the auction with the exception of the Filko cabinet. I scored that at another auction a few weeks ago. It only went for $12 since all the SO junkies were bidding on this while a second auctioneer was selling on the other side of the property. I've never seen one with the lower cabinet. Just need a lock/key coded if possible.....paging Jeff Moss!!!

The box was my favorite score of the day. I love the old cantilever boxes and this one will get a resto. It's in a molasses bath now. I'm gonne give it a flashy (possibly metal flake flame) paintjob. Haven't done one in awhile. I got it along with all the tools in it for $4. The sockets were the last haul and they totaled $11. Pretty good weekend for me.

Duct Tape Man, those look to be std 19" racks, and if you hit up some of those types of scrap yards you can find drawer slides that mount in the racks. Then you are just a drawer away from one hella setup for storing anything, tools, parts whatever...

How about bolting a piece of heavy ALUMINUM angle to the side of the tallest one even with the top of the shortest? That wouldn't count as an alteration, riiiiight? Then put the plywood atop the short one and the angle. Voila: workbench with storage.

The racks will be stored by me for a little while until I can figure out how I can use them effectively WITHOUT cutting them up or modifying them. They would make great storage shelves for some of my heavier tool boxes and bins, just wish two of them were the same height so I could make another bench out of them and the plywood. Anyways, they are cool, a piece of history, and I'm glad to have them, even if I don't know exactly what for yet.

I'd been looking forward to today's flea market, as I always do well there. As I mentioned yesterday, I promised to be there at Oh-dark-thirty... Is 6:15 early enough?
Why is it that I can spend a half hour or more looking at flea markets or swap meets before finding something worth buying? And that only then does my bag start filling up quickly? Anyway, today was like that. Was feeling pretty discouraged when I found a screaming deal on something non-tool related. Then everything came out of the woodwork...

Second, Combo Wrenches:

Two Williams, four Craftsman Underline

Third, Pliers:

Channellock 410s and =Craftsman= water pump

Fourth, Adjustable Wrenches:

8" Williams and Diamond, 10" Billings

Fifth, Sockets and Associated:

Williams socket set case (which I think is restorable if I can get the decal off of the lid intact), Armstrong and New Britain 1/2" drive ratchets, Challenger 3/8" drive flex, Challenger 3/8" drive regular, Williams B-52 3/8" drive, and three Williams sockets (there were two more sockets-one Armstrong, one Williams, but they have pretty bad rust).

Finally, found this 1955 OTC catalog for $3. Again, exactly what I was looking for.


A pretty good day. Still have at least one more big swap meet and one more big flea market before the weather turns cold...

Bad rust?? on the sockets or the ratchets? That's nothing! And that flat handled Armstrong is sweet!

Thanks!! I was stoked when I saw it and was willing to spend a bit more than $12 to get it. These kind of collectibles usually bring big $$ around me probably because of those American Picker a@@holes. I see the top drawers often on the world wide web. This was the first time I've seen a bottom cabinet. It also has a ton of stickers inside to ID the drawers with the correct part #'s.

I am thinking you can remove the T handles and take them to a locksmith they should be able to either make a key if there is a code stamped on the lock, impression a key by hand, or take the lock apart and put new pins/wafers in.

My brother and I found it on an archaeological dig on an old farm site about a year ago and I just got around to cleaning it up. Patent Dec. 29th, 1891. The only patents that I could find with that date were by the king of patents, Thomas A. Edison. I have no idea what this is from though. Best guess is a part off a dynamo. Its cast iron, about 7" long and the left side has broken off. Any input is appreciated.

Looks like a wood stove plate handle. I have used them a lot in my younger days.

^^^ Yup ^^^ Stove plate lift handle for a wood or coal fired stove. The end that is rusted off may have had a ring to hang it, or just ended in a rounded end.

That's what it is, a handle for lifting stove plates. When I was growing up we had a Monarch wood range that we used next to our electric oven. One of the handles we had had a coil like a welders slag hammer to keep it from getting too hot. That looks like a fancy version that has seen better days.

Bought this top box for 15 last night off cl, not sure of the maker yet, its in fair shape other than the bad paint and added lock mech, it has stickers on the drawers stating they were inventoried in 1995. This box will get redone.
I bought a craftsman bottom Sunday to go with my top but I listed it in another thread. Paid 30 plus some trade for it.

Great finds! You definitely **** on that Cman bottom chest. Does the blue (or blue-gray?) paint look original on the top box? I'm sure someone will chime in with a suggestion on the maker. For some reason I'm thinking Herbrand and OTC may have sold boxes in a color like that, but I have no way to back that up...
