So, I am a general DIY kind of guy and love working on cars. I recently moved from a smaller house with a 2-car garage to the other side of town to a bigger house with a 2-car carport (20x19) and attached storage area/workshop (20x6).

Here is a pic of the old garage. There was a lot of room to work with since it was enclosed, and it even had a closet area in the back left where I kept my compressor and extra tools/stuff:

Here is a pic of the carport when I bought the new house and attached storage area I wanted to turn into a workshop. It was pretty dingy and not a lot of space!

Since then, I have painted the floor with beige epoxy-coat, took out all the nails and rotting shelves in the workshop, painted all the walls, put great stuff in the cracks between the walls and floor, added vinyl baseboard, and generally cleaned it up real good! Then I started adding pegboard (which I love), my tools, 2 workbenches painted to match the walls (one is 1x8 ft along the wall and the other is 5x2.5 or so), my rolling HF cart, etc.

I still need to add a few more shelves, some decorative posters/wall signs/the rest of my tools and some mini blinds for the 2 windows. Add some more weatherstripping and such around the 2 doors to insulate it better. The washer/dryer hookup is still in workshop, but eventually we will move it into the house to have more room for my larger items (compressor, etc).

Going in the carport will be my 1970 Chevy Stepside C-10 nicknamed by the previous owner "Ol Betsy". I have loved working on it and slowly resto-modding it as time and money allows. It will be the only car in the carport so I do have some room on either side of the carport to store things that don't fit in the workshop.

Ideas and comments welcome! I know it isn't quite the baller garage like most on here, but its all I got :) I will try to keep this updated with pictures as best I can! :bounce:

Great job so far! The workshop area turned out really nice and the epoxy helps out a ton. Can't wait to see where you take this. If you've got the dryer 220v hookup out in there, I'd say most folks would be jealous of your set up. I know I am...I still have to weld in the driveway off an extension cord ran into my house.

I do have one question..how much sun does your carport get? It may be different on the beige, but I got the grey Epoxycoat and the little bit the extends outside my garage door has yellowed due to sun exposure.

I spent 4 good years in Raleigh from 99-03. GO PACK! :) Love the c-10 too!

Yep, got 220 in there :) Good for future use!

The carport barely gets any sun. I was worried about yellowing too, but there are a lot of tall oak trees in my yard that cover it during the "worst" part of the day. Even if it did, its only about the first 1-1.5 ft in. Hopefully it should last a good while!

That looks great. You turned a narrow space into a nice shop. The work looks real good,
I love your truck as well!!

Best Wishes

This weekend I installed a strip along the bottoms of the two doors into the workshop and also insulated around the tops of the doors where there was a crack. Hopefully it should seal it a little better from weather/bugs. Although not perfect, its better! Oh yea and also installed mini-blinds in both windows!
