Need to figure out how to make my own custom length rear brake and shift cables because stock ones won't work.

Look for tandem cables. Those are pretty long.

Refurbished an 80 gal fish tank and stand that we got for free (for our water turtles). Then did the first brake job on our 09 Nissan Maxima (49K miles), which needed the REAR brakes done. Fronts are still doing fine. Oh I also put a new Speed Feed head on my TORO weadwacker and I'm really liking this new set up, especially with the new ECHO string.

Tandem cables and bulk bought shifter and brake housing and ferules. Buy actual cable/housing cutters or use a cutoff grinder.

I worked with the kids to assemble a 50cc moped that arrived in a crate. It's a TaoTao and this picture is before we installed the rear view mirrors and rear trunk.

I rearranged my tool boxes, shelving and a cabinet to make more room but ended up with less room and a pile of homeless items on the garage floor. Lost my motivation and ran out of time to put it all back.

I picked this up Saturday. It's been in storage at my parents for the last 15yrs. The last pic is where it sits right now as I type.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Over the long weekend I finished painting the exterior door trim on the house and shop. I then took some time yesterday and rearranged and cleaned a few areas in the shop to try to gain some more room. I don't think I gained any room but I like the way it looks and flows better for efficiency.

Now time to get back to getting some paying jobs in the shop this week.

Is that a Hurst Olds? I was just looking around on the internet at Cutlass and 442's. My wife would like to have a '64 Olds 442, but she may have to settle on a Cutlass someday.

No, it was just cloned as one when I bought it back in '95. This was my highschool hot rod. I drag raced it for a few years after that before tearing it apart to "restore" it. Well then I met my wife, got married, bought a small house etc. so it got stuffed back in the corner of Dad's barn. I've since built a new house and shop to work on it in. I've also aquired a few more Oldsmobiles along the way. This one will be body off restored and made into a 9 second street legal drag car. Here are my other 442's.

Actually the red '65 was purchased by my grandfather brand new in 1965. It was then passed on to my father and then me about 4yrs. ago. I guess that's the one you could consider "mine". The '68 we picked up about a year and a half ago. My wife likes to drive that one since it has power steering and brakes so I guess we will call that one "hers".

I sand some parts for the family race car(27 ford t-bucket). To be ready for paint. Then cut extra exhaust tubing off my trucks exhaust I'm building for it.

Good idea, I'll give that a shot.

My explorer just failed inspection for a leaking passenger manifold.. somewhere. Can't see it from above so finding out if it is a broken stud or cracked manifold or just a leaking gasket will be tricky.

rshadd - That's a nice looking bench (and shop). I like it.

I put some new wheels and tires on my Jeep today. I think I'll have a beer now too.

Hey, Fairy Lake! The second parking (or is it third?) lot in off Water St. My previous house overlooked that park, it was the red brick one at the corner of College and Oak.

elm_street - You are DEAD ON!!! :shocking: Fairly Lake, 2nd parking lot. I was looking for a decent place for a shot of my TJ with the new wheels and tires I put on it last week (quite a different look) and I picked this one. I was a leader with the 2nd Newmarket Scouts and it's where we usually had our outdoor gatherings. I know the College & Oak area well - just across from Pickering College.

PC06 - We moved away from Newmarket in the summer of 2007 but spent a lot of time in that park in the 9 years we lived there. Canada day was always good there, the live music could be heard at our house; the band getting more and more drunk as the day went on. :D
Yes, just down the street from Pickering College. We had to pester the students that would like to use our corner and the retaining wall as the school smoking pit...

I was actually in York Region last week, didn't make it up to Newmarket though.

Not 100% done yet, still need to mount the overhead light - among a few other things.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Repaired a Honda lawnmower for a client last night. Quick and simple carb cleaning. Sharpened the blade and called the guy to come and get it. He was shocked it was done so soon yet happy at the same time.

Then a client brought in a 2003 Chevrolet ZR2 Blazer that has the notorious cracked frame along the lower control arm mounts. The thing is covered with oil/grease. Probably going to be more of a task cleaning than actually welding.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I did this on Sunday... couple days late posting it.

Got some items hung on my pegboard to clear space off my workbench and shelving. Then I got motivated and cleaned the entire garage.

(the pegboard & workbenches were installed by the previous owners of the house)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Few things that I got done over the weekend.

First I got the winch cleaned up and repainted.

Then the roller fairlead was bent and the rollers didn't roll so I pulled it apart. The main reason that they didn't roll was all the rust and the fact that there was no way to lubricate them.

I decided to see if I could rectify that. I took one of the old pins and drilled and tapped the end for a 1/4-28 zerk then I drilled and relieved a hole in the side to allow the grease into the bushing area of the roller.

I also didn't have the caps to hold the pins in so I threaded the last 1/2 inch or so for a 1/2-13 nut.

This was just the test piece for proof of concept, the 2 shorter pins were so rusty that I had to replace them.
Once I had a working model I drilled, tapped and threaded all the pins. (boy now I know that I need a lathe, would have made this so much easier.)

During assembly I found that I needed to tweak the frame a bit to get everything square again, I also discovered that full size 1/2-13 nuts were too wide and I wouldn't be able to get the tip of the grease gun on, so I pulled it back apart and cut the nuts in half. fits perfectly now.

After that I spent a while cleaning and rebuilding the carb on the Honda trash pump that we use to pump lake water to water the grass and as a back up in case of fire.

Then on Monday the boy and I cleaned out the shed and made room for most of the yard equip to keep it out of the shop.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

You know when you are trying to remember what you have done over a weekend some things just slip your mind. On top of the winch and cleaning I also did the brakes on my sons 95 eagle vision including replacing the hard lines from the front of the passenger compartment to both rears, PITA had to drop the rear member and the gas tank to do the drivers side, who plans where these things run.

At the end of the day I cleared off the shelves on my work table.

I changed the plugs in the Buick wagon. Also put in a new upper radiator hose as well as taking the dash bezels off to put the light back in the hole for the heat/AC unit. I was tired of it shining through the cracks in my eyes at night.

Traced down some previous owners bad wiring for the tail lights on my truck. Replaced sections as necessary. For some reason there was 4 **** splices all within a foot of each other on the line that feeds the rr brake/signal line.

Sounds like the previous owners did a hack job of installing a trailer wiring pigtail.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last week we bought this huge mutha' fifth wheel trailer:

In the slide-in camper we had that this replaced it had a sliding pantry unit with wire shelves. We kept the unit so I could adapt it to the 5'er. The only real problem was that the removable wire baskets were too wide for the cabinet I needed to install the sliding mechanism into. They were 8-1/2" and needed to be 6".

No problem, a thin cutting blade in my 4-1/2 angle grinder made short work of cutting them down. Removed the paint where I'd have to weld with the wire wheel on my bench grinder and welded with my MIG welder. A quick clean up and rattle can spray paint and they came out pretty good, I think.

...and installed. Worked great!
