It's apparently Fleet Week for me . . . I posted yesterday about the set of Fleet SAE BOE wrenches I picked up at an Estate Sale yesterday. Today we stumbled across a Garage Sale with a bunch of decorator stuff. After playing with the owners Pekinese puppy for a minute I spotted a box with some misc. tools. In there was a socket rail with a full set of Fleet SAE sockets. There was also a Fleet metal box holding a full set of Penen's SAE sockets. I got both sets for $5.00 total.

The box is a mess paint wise but holds the double set of sockets fine. It will be tight to fit a ratchet in there.

These are also for my nephew - I guess I should clear this with his parents before I pick up any more tools for him.

Here is what was in the $5 box, all the Craftsman is below the extension, bottom left. Also got some Sears wrenches, Companion, POwrkraft and a set of Master Mechanic DOEs. Proto socket, brass hammer head, File and Bonney screw starter, some old gold plated screw head cuff links, Akro bin drawer, misc hardware etc, junk still in the box.

I'll double your money plus shipping! Don't get me started on spilling one of those. I bumped my small pin kit once and it was BAD!! I also had an old kit I bought from eBay get ruined in the mail...it was packed very poorly and all the pins were loose when it showed up

It is a lawn mower blade balancer. You set it on a level surface and in theory the blade should be parallel to that level surface. If one side dips down it is heavier than the other side. Remove material from the heavy side. DO NOT remove material from the cutting edge. Sharpen it first then balance it. Also make sure to clean it well so you don't have any clumps of grass messing with the balance.

I went to a welding shop closeout today. The owner had passed away a few months ago, and the family was selling all the assets. They had a son-in-law doing the pricing. He sat at a computer and looked everything up, priced it at 50% of new retail for well used tools, and wouldn't budge. There was a Milwaukee porta-band that was beat, and he was asking $150. They also had a 6" 1/2hp 70's Cman block grinder w/ a homemade sanding setup, no stand. He wanted $140. He went down to $100, but that's it. No sale. A 4" pair of bent nose vise-grips with misaligned jaws was marked $12. It was discouraging. And then .......... I saw it. In a corner they hadn't gotten to with the price tags yet, two vises. One was a 4" Reed in bad shape, mounted to a bracket that may have been bolted onto a welding truck. The other was a 4 1/2" Reed #204 1/2 in decent but greasy shape. MINE ! I waited until the SIL was busy looking up a bunch of over-prices for a line of people, and then asked him "how much for the vice ?" I got an "umm, umm, I'm busy. Will you take it for $40 ?" SOLD.

I'll post more pics of the vise in the proper thread.

The other stops were duds, except for the last one where I scored a small parts box for $2. The case needs some hammering, but the drawers only need a little tweaking. I have plenty of metallic blue paint I'm not using for anything else, I think it will look good once I can finally get to it. It'll go on my modeling desk for bits and pieces.

This is what I purchased over the Labor Day Weekend flea market in and around Hillsville, VA. I spent two days shopping and counting gas, food, parking, wife's purchases and everything probably spent about $600. There are a few other items the wife bought that didn't make the tools pictures. The wife likes the beach, but this is my vacation.

Some good stuff today, not all super deals but nothing outrageous...

First yard sales went no where, the HS Flea was pretty good to me. the flea and one estate sale was almost everything today. (I got one book at another estate sale as well)


The clamp was first. this thing seems old; rounded threads (may be from wear) and the wing nut...

Then the box and the complete set of New Britain 1/4" drive sockets, in the original box! (Just enough of the decal on the outside cover to tel it's NB...) I had to dig in the rest of the three drawer tool box it was in to find 'em all, one was on a driver, two or three others were floating around... three are 8 pt, the remainder are hex. (The Allen is not a part of the "set") now I need to find a period correct ratchet breaker and extension(s)...

2 Mac, SK, SO stubby ratchet, Plvmb combo, from one vendor ($10 only bacause of the SO and Plvmb)), SO DOE, Kraueter dykes, SK RAt (Fine tooth 60-70 teeth? 16-17 in 1/4 turn..) Blue Point from another (sam as the NB sockets in fact) $4

Utica bent needle nose, 5-1/2" CEE TEE pliers, 2 tiny Hand Vises, Indestro Auto wrench $4

Germantown BP hammer, 1-4 drive soc tray, Proto DBE, BIC lighter alum sleeve $4

with the hex shape and EXTREMELY thick claw (it almost looks like a sheet metal hammer in profile) I was thinking at first this was turn of the century or older, but with "bell System" on it...

JEFF! do you know if this was for driving those date nails into telephone poles? Or was that only the power co.? I can't think of anything else a phone guy would need this monster for? (2 lbs; 32 oz.!)

More estate sale goodness; a folding draw knife, small (1-1/2") clamp Vise, Draw knife, Offset Hand drill, and what is now my coolest marking gauge, as it has quite a bit of brass on it including a screw adjustable scribe!

and the last of the Estate sale (and my haul for the day) small Diamond nippers, German Needlenose pliers, old Channellock 420's, a Cornwell Saltus, 2 small Pipe wrenches (One German the other is a Penen's corp. 6 in w/green handle; if you are going to collect pipe wrenches, THIS is the size to collect! ) and a Proto 3/4 Combo.

I have one of those Clawson Jo offset hand drills, they are pretty unique. Don't think I'd ever need a use for them, but they are cool to play with.

I have a roller drawer full of just egg beater type drills of different types. this is the first offset one that was reasonably priced!

And yes, the cool factor was why I wanted one. but I still use these, and have a two speed with a shoulder pad setup for driving Stare head deck screws. Just as easy as a battery gun most times.

$3 bucks, anybody ever seen a ratchet like this before? It looks kind of like the head of a craftsman boxhead, no visiable name on it, but I have no idea what the shaft coming out the back is for. It is round and has a detent ball. I have some more pics if anybody wants me to post them.
