Not quite in the garage, but I brought my 103e Ford Pop roadster home today.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last week we bought this huge mutha' fifth wheel trailer:

In the slide-in camper we had that this replaced it had a sliding pantry unit with wire shelves. We kept the unit so I could adapt it to the 5'er. The only real problem was that the removable wire baskets were too wide for the cabinet I needed to install the sliding mechanism into. They were 8-1/2" and needed to be 6".

No problem, a thin cutting blade in my 4-1/2 angle grinder made short work of cutting them down. Removed the paint where I'd have to weld with the wire wheel on my bench grinder and welded with my MIG welder. A quick clean up and rattle can spray paint and they came out pretty good, I think.

...and installed. Worked great!

Nice looking 5th wheel and truck. Congrats.

Slapped a set of rear brake pads on a buddy's 03 Camry and turned the check engine light off for what I bet is a bad oxygen sensor. I'll find out in a few days I'm sure. It has 230k on it and he's planning on nursing it along for maybe another year.

Repaired a GM ZR2 frame from the common front suspension cracks.

Pics of job can be seen here.

Tonight I plan on getting the right side suspension bolted back together and complete the left side. I am trying to finish it up tonight for the customer as he informed me that he needs it for a family vacation this weekend.

Last night I finished up the left side frame repair on a customers ZR2 Blazer and then gave the shop a cleaning. That grinding dust and metal shavings gets everwhere even trying to keep it contained while working.

Afterwards I trimmed and mowed the lawn then sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the backyard for a while.

And made an ends up cutting board for moms b day out of pallet hard wood (took a couple of days but finished today)

DSC03230_zpsd278ac81.jpg

Just an FYI, I hope those were virgin and clean pallets that you used. Pallets have a multitude of things hauled on them and spilled on them. That's one of the reasons we (FD) won't allow people to burn them when they have cooking fires in town.

Just wanted to let you know that and it does look nice. I hope your Mom liked it.

Nice looking cutting board.

It sort of looks like a face cut up and made into a puzzle and now needs to be rearranged.

My grandpa, uncle and myself built this "kitchen island" cart over the weekend. We were able to buy a 24" by 48" walnut butcher block from Boos Butcher Blocks in Effingham, IL for $40. They also threw in the casters and 2 bottles of their oil.

My grandpa builds custom cabinets in his retired life, so the total build time was about 4 hours. Going to look great in our new house we move into next week!

Thanks for the warning  I took extra care to find out their history, used once and not for chemical shipment. You are right though lots of scary stuff gets shipped around on some of them. And I won't go near the imported pallets with the stuff they get treated with

I started on a fun new project yesterday and already got the first coat on it before lunch just now. I don't get to work on a lot of Chevy stuff around here but this is sweet!

Somebody -- maybe the factory -- kind of hacked up the cutout areas for the linkage (wrong grinder tip?) ...

... but it shouldn't be too noticeable now that my deburring is finished. The intake is going to be three colors when I'm done, and the timing cover will be two.

I'll show off the final Powder **** when I'm done. Have a great weekend everybody! :D

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

No garage time today other than cleaning all of the throw rugs. Twelve rugs in total. I think that is the first time this year that I have washed them. I normally do it two or three times a year. That was about a 2 1/2 hour job with the power washer. Soap 'em, soak 'em, and rinse 'em. Now I just have to wait on them to dry.

Then momma dragged me over to the local flower place to by some hardy Fall mums. So tomorrow she plans on planting 38. I think I may just put the post hole digger on the tractor and use it to loosen up the dirt as the clay we have is hard as can be right now. We really need a couple of days of nice soaking rain.

That is some cool induction happening there. I know your power coating those pieces. Would love to see some shots just before they are fired. Curious to see what gets block from the power, remains raw.

The only difference between how it looks in progress and after it's fully cured is the masking itself; what's raw then will still be raw when it's done.

I hope so! The first two colors, red and black, are on but it was still cooling off when I came in tonight so I don't have any progress pics yet. It looked pretty stellar when I last peeked.

My cuzzin's ran Hilborn like that in a small block powered '51 Crosley. They had to grind some away in that area, the linkage cleared fine, but the Heim joint hit the ribs.

Looks great. Can't wait for the final pics!

You crack me up! :D I have to feel sorry for Kevin but admire the post hole digger idea. I hope there's video.

Thanks for the info on the Heim joint interference too. It was already in Exploded View when I got it in.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

This morning I got up early and polished the headlights on the wife's Altima. They were starting to show a little haze and with winter right around the corner and the end of daylight savings time she will be leaving for work in the dark as well as coming home in the dark.

I washed and vacuumed her car for her afterwards and while I had the hose out I decided to hook up the pressure washer and run around the house and pressure wash the house.

I just finished up, came in and think I will take the wife to lunch.:rocker:

All in all a great Saturday morning.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

been a busy morning,

went and got my 2 dead ridgid batteries warrantied
came home, moved my trucks around in the driveway, hooked up the trailer to my DD
cut some new shelving for the kitchen pantry, and installed them
cut the grass
moved my s-10 out of the garage, got it loaded up for a show tommorow
swept the garage out, and put the dog on "guard duty"

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Picked up the metal left over from some projects in front of the shop and took it around to the pile in the back. Remembered to wear my back brace today.
Finished welding the stand for my 3 ton garage sale arbor press. Probably paint it tomorrow and get someone to help me lift the press up on it.
Cleaned the slag from one side and the sawdust from the other side then vacuumed the floor--I hate doin that kind of stuff!

Just about finished up my wiring harness and custom fuse box makeover:

Fabbed that mounting panel myself out of some thin sheet aluminum and given my lack of metal working capability, I'm thrilled at how it came out. Thankfully now I can get back to getting the motor back together.

Changed the oil, polished the wheels, dressed the tires. I like the flat rubber look of tires, is just so correct. I see the shinny wet looking things and it reminds me of a bad model car builder, that did not know how to detail a car. Took about an hour to do the wheels, hand rubbed.

Chopped some mortise and tenons for my workbench build. This thing is going to be heavy. 3" thick solid Oak top.

Installed some super fancy Lightolier occupancy sensor switches for two light circuits in the garage. Apparently there's even a remote that goes with these. Fantastic range, like 30', and all kinds of settings.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I tried sharpening the blades on a 50 year old, manual push mower that I recently bought for 10 bucks. I did it per internet wisdom by applying grinding compound to the blades and turning them backwards.

It didn't cut any better so I pulled out the stationary blade for inspection. It appears that a previous owner tried sharpening it with a side-grinder and the cutting edge no longer meets that cutting edge of the rotary blade. I believe the mower is just a charming conversation piece now, or perhaps fodder for the steel foundry.

Then I turned my attention to finding the parasitic battery drain that is killing my Xterra's battery every few days. Still working on that.

This is why the real type mowers are usually left for the pros, golf corse. I love the cut of those but the blade maintenance leaves me cold
