That Reed certainly grabs your attention!!

Here is a partial submission for today. I've got a few more completed vises in the wings and pictures are coming later today. I guess for $10.00 i really couldn't get too upset:

Now, that's the bigcaddy I know and love.....On that bullet..You ****!!

You can probably get them direct from Wilton, I've also seen them pop up on eBay from time to time, or you can check out http://wiltonviseparts.net/ for some that are made by a GJ member here. Though the pipe jaws might require some modifications on your part....

I can't really tell from the blurry pictures if yours is the clip on style or the ones with the pins through them. There are at least two different mounting methods so make sure you find one that is the same as yours.

Here are better pictures. I just picked the C1up. It has pipe law inserts that are spring loaded. It also need the actual swivel handles because this had some weird makeshift type pipe handle on it. Overall it is in decent condition. 3-94 date on the slide. Pictures next to my other two wiltons as well. I sold the blue 8300 to pay for this behemoth. I got a hell of a deal on the C1 if you ask me.

I was looking around wiltonviseparts.net and he sells only the pipe jaws that are secured with a locking screw, not my type that has a spring keeping it in :( I can get the swivel handles from ereplacementparts.com for $45 shipped which is okay. I am going to have trouble finding a pipe jaw...I am certainly not going to drill and tap it to make use of the other type of jaw inserts. We will see how it goes.

Wow-new member here-searching for jaws for my Craftsman vise I stumbled upon this site and this thread. Had no idea-Ive always been fascinated with vises, no idea why, certainly never thought so many would have such a variety of simply cool vises.
I also came across an unusual (I've never seen) vice on ebay (edit deadlink & pic)
I seen one here in thread bout page 4, I'd pick up just cause but shipping makes it impractical.

I only have my daily driver and a couple of junk ones.
For what its worth Ill add pic

IMG_0527.jpg
This is used daily vise- jaws need replacing though. I noted a color change in the sparks as I was grinding-oops too late.

IMG_0532.jpg
My lil pony vise-was given to me because the solid bar guide is considerable smaller than casting-my fix was tapping the body adding thumb screw. 4 1/2" jaws opens to 5", as its small is handy on the bench.

Another 'freebie'
IMG_0529.jpg
This was given to me by someone who also recieved it free. Its a monster, dont know what it is though I suspect an H/F or possibley Pittsburg. It is all but new, never mounted though someone beat the **** out of table. I cleaned it up, resurfaced the table and painted. Im mounting it outside, it will be a beater but as you can see by the surface rust, been on the round to it a while-just need to build a substantial stand for it.

Well I made page 24 of this thread before I decided to join so I could see all the pics. playing catch up.

His pipe jaws are the same ones, you just have to use your old spring clamps, He will drill the 1/4" hole in the back. Very nice C1. Original finger savers are always a good sign.

Autopts, the problem is I'm missing one of the inserts...so I don't have a spring clamp. If that is a fairly common item that I can find, I will certainly order from him.

I thought the #108s were stationaries, and the #208s were swivels.:headscrat

They were up until the last generation of heavy Reeds. The ones with the big Reed logo on the side had the same casting for stationary and swivel. There was a small rectangle after the number that would be stamped with N for stationary or S for swivel. Some didn't get stamped at all. My 108 is unstamped, but has a swivel like the yellow one.

C-1's are popular this weekend. Here's mine, bought yesterday evening.

Date of manufacture is 1/79. The C-1 comes in the form of a decal instead of a casting number.

I've already got a C-0. Now that I have a C-1 I guess I know what comes next!

Thanks Mr. b100.----I'm learning something new every day. While we are talking about Reeds, what does the R stand for. For instance, 204 R?

I'm guessing it was for revision. It showed up with the design change that included the oil hole in the side.

Cheapest I found online doing a quick search for a replacement pair was $110, I *think* these are them: http://www.mile-x.com/wilton-10225-pipe-jaws.aspx

Like I said, first I would call Wilton and see what their prices and availability are. If you are patient you might be able to find one or two on eBay for a better price. Last resort you could always make a clip using your existing one as a template.

Yeah, your wife starts asking why you need another vise. :D

Snort. The deal is, I buy a vise, she gets a new pair of shoes.

Not sure what happens if I sell a vise, but I don't see that happening any time soon!

I'm not a huge fan of this style vise with the exposed screw but this American Scale cleaned up really nicely and photographs well. Best thing about it is that it's easy to ship. :)

Here's another exposed screw vise. This was an E-bay purchase a couple of weeks ago. This is how it came. Sand blasted and clear coated. Looks like raw metal. It's a Scout but I'm not sure if it's a Wilton Scout. Made different than most Wilton's. I'm like balane, I'm not to fond of the exposed screw either, but I will buy one if it is scarce or odd. Weighs 15.4 lbs..

Most Scout's have a bar for a slide. First time I've seen one with an I-beam

I borrowed this photo of this hand made vise off of Ebay. I get the feeling it was made by someone in the Russian Military. Ha!

For VA.GROUSEMAN

Some smaller Wilton vises have the letter N inside a square. If you look at the pictures below, you will see the Ns in both vises. So your Scout should be a Wilton.

For BIGCADDY

There was a company that made what was called UNIVERSAL VISE ATTACHEMENTS that did the same thing as shown in your pictures in post # 10417. Maybe some other companies offered similar items? The picture below from an ad ( posted by someone else before) shows the attachments.

Nice. I looked at Ridgid/Peddinghaus myself when I bought a new vise a while back as I wanted a forged quality vise. Ended up with a Brockhaus Heuer.

Just thought to leave a note regarding Kevin (KMScott) who lives near Estes Park, Colorado. He has been stranded due to flooding and without phone or internet service until a few minutes ago. He's been unable to keep in touch with those of you who may have orders in to him for jaw inserts, lock down handles, or spindle collars. He may not be able to leave his house until Wednesday due to a 15' deep sinkhole in his driveway and a submerged bridge out to the road from his driveway. He has groceries in the pantry and is waiting out more rain, 2" or more expected today. He will be filling orders as fast as he can get life back to some kind of normal. Big, Big Flooding here in Colorado but especially in his neighborhood.

Is there anything we can do for him ? Please let him know our thoughts and prayers are with him as he deals with all this.

Hopefully all the iron he's got stashed in the garage is whats keeping his house stuck to the ground:rocker:

If you get a chance to talk to him, let us know. Like CCFLN said, if he needs anything, just say it and its in the mail.

Yeah it looks pretty bad in Colorado. Our thoughts & prayers go out to everyone there affected by the floods. About all you can do is hunker down and ride out the storms.

Just the other day was the anniversary of when Hurricane Ike hit here in Houston... Two weeks without power in the hot humid summer was fuuuun....
