Sackohammer, looks like we got the same SK machinist box maybe!

I think you might be right. The exterior on mine has been repainted with something like hunter green rattle can. All stock inside. I ended up with a bunch of calipers, taps, dies, all kinds of small stuff. The owner promised there was a micrometer in there, too. But I was shopping sight unseen because of time restraints. The box is there, just no micrometer. $5 bucks I'm not complaining.

Even beat up they are a nice box.

ALRIGHT I won't buy another air compressor tank!!! LOL

I picked this one up for $25 with a working motor on it also.
img_0542.jpg

The red one is a 20 gallon while this one is a 29 gallon, so now i get to piece 3 compressors together to get one good one. Just need to decide how I'm going to go about doing it.

Also I picked this bike up for $50, it's in really nice shape and I needed a bike to go riding with the girls so this will get me started.
img_0541.jpg

But for now it will all sit as I'm leaving in the morning for Oklahoma City for training and won't be back til Friday midnight.

Two garage sales today, both of them were busts, baby clothes and knick-knacks. Did go to the flea market, and saved a few goodies:

pic 1: FREE stuff: pair of new safety goggles, Prestone radiator flush, folding yardstick, two boxes of "G" clips for wire, and a box of pencil leads for old mechanical pencils.
pic 2-3: camo bag $2, brand new condition New Mexico license plate $1, and a sharpening stone made by Acme $5
pic 4: old water valve $1, "Indian Head" cutting blade 25 cents, two Craftsman sockets $1 for both, Proto screwdriver 50 cents, "S" wrench FREE, and the best deal: 3 Armstrong DOE wrenches, each is 1-1/16 and 1-1/4, for $1 EACH.
pic 5: they are marked $2 each, but the table owner marked everything down to half price at the end of the day
pic 6-7: lot of oilers and oil cans, blue one is Japanese, but the rest are USA. Top grease gun is for Zerk fittings, patent 1,475,980 dating to the early 1920s, made by Bassick Mfg. Co., Chicago, IL, excellent condition. The center tan oiler is made by Huffy Automotive Products (thought they only made bikes?). $3 for everything in the pics.

Yesterday 5 garage sales 2 had tools, at the second one I picked up 1/4" drive 1/2” 6pt st Snap-on TM16, 3/8” drive 7/16” 12pt st Husky 23014, 3/8” drive 9/16” 6pt st Craftsman 43004, 3/8” drive 3/4" 12pt st Easco 52 3124, (2) 3/8” drive 15mm 12pt st Craftsman 44306, 3/8” drive 17mm 12pt st Craftsman 44307 out of a box marked 7 dollars. I didn’t want all the Taiwan stuff so I offered the guy 2 dollars for the sockets, he said just give me a buck.

I struck out at the Auction last night.

Today I sold 286.75 in assorted items at a flea market in IL.

Tomorrow I will try my luck at the local flea market.

I bought tools today! Well, a small handful cause the misses had an itch to go Thrift Store hopping after making me do house work all morning... Pics later, 2 large Bonney sockets, 3 Hex key sockets, 2 Williams, 1 CMan =V=, and an old old JH Williams C Clamp.

Mattblast and Outlaw,
That oddball bp hammer with the red handle and black head is a child's toy. It must be close to 60 years old. Reason is, I have that hammer hanging on the tool rack in the basement and I got it as a kid with a small toy where you hit round pegs into round holes and square ones into square holes. I unfortunately would try to hit the square pegs into the round holes, but that's another story.
I believe the silver on the peen end is just some silver paint. I kept the little hammer cause it works well for hitting delicate things I want to bend a little without marring them. And it has stood the test of time. I always thought I'd have to epoxe the head to the handle, but that hasn't happened yet. Nice find! BTW.

Had a flea market and a long list of garage sales to hit today. Started out at the flea market, which I wasn't optimistic about after last year.
First buy, $5:

Snap-On hex bit sockets (and 1 Japan No. 2 Phillips socket)

Second buy, $4:

Wright 4400 1/2" drive ratchet. In great working condition. Will probably end up a User.

Third purchase, $3:

MAC meter

Next up, $2:

Lisle Spark Plug Gapper

Finally, I splurged. $25:

A nearly-new SK DBE set in its roll and a set of SK SAE hex bit sockets.

I left the flea market and started knocking off the garage sales. They all sounded so promising in the ads, but one after the other was a bust. I did finally buy a couple of things at the last sale I stopped at, but they weren't tool-related. Oh well.

9Four, that Horizontal mill is either an Atlas, or an Atlas built Craftsman. Great find and price! you even appear to have all the "Hard parts" like the power feed and the support bar! Excellent!

I have about 2/3 of one of those. I started with the XYZ table part more than 30 yer ago got that part straightened away for any issues with the intent to make up a Vertical mill head for it. then about 9-10 years ago I got a bunch of the upper castings and parts, but not all. maybe someday...

No pics (broke phone)
But today I got 6 quarts of various minwax wood stain and a 3/4 full gallon of minwax stain all for......FREE!

Paid $1 each for a rather old 1/2" craftsman speeder (hex handle and big knob) and a set of craftsman magnetic inserts that go inside sockets to hold bolts in place.

Oh and a cordless phone with 2 handsets for 50c. I needed a new set as the screens on my current home phones dont work and the batteries die in about 5 minutes!

No times for sales today, but an antique mall I stopped in had a Diamalloy board that had all of the manufacturing steps on it. Way to expensive for me, but I'll post a picture if it when I get a chance.

I had a feeling it could be a toy because of the handle. They made quality toys 60 years ago. Better made than some new hammers.

And here are a couple things I didn't get outbid on!!
and this Atlas Horizontal Mill for $350

Great stuff. Really good deal on that Atlas mill, they are very popular, especially with hobby/model makers. But dang Nine, you couldn't even give us a smile? :dunno:

P.S. The person that bought that Rockwell DP for $125, either knew what they were doing or got extremely lucky. That foot feed is highly sought after by some.

^^^Nice finds!! You guys did a whole lot better then me!!

O, come on now Dave, you still **** on that for $1 each. Really, what does $1 buy you these days? Outside this thread of course:lol:

It's definately worth the $20 for the new cutter! I've had one for about 15yrs. don't use it often. But when I need it, I'm glad I have it.

:lol_hitti You're not kidding. That looks really nice for $15  Do those have drawer slides on them? External dimensions?

20w x 13h x 8.5d
The drawers slide on a bent 90 track. They have spring tabs to prevent them from coming out.

I made a good haul this weekend. These are from the sale I crashed yesterday. I went back. It's pretty late here so I'm only going to post the boxes minus most of the stuff in them. I got the door off the S-K box seeing that the ring is gone from the front and ended up with some stones, taps, dies, bearings, calipers, etc. An unknown cantilever. Two 6500 Crown tops in prime shape, one empty and the other still has rebuild tools and a lot of grease to clean out of it. (NOTHING like the beater one chocked full of garbage a while back). Showing off a depth gauge to another guy got me the carpenters box of stuff it was in. The gentleman there said "just take the box for $5.00". Gave a giant metal shear and a brace w/ bits in it to the neighbor so its a little emptier than pictured. But that Remington nail gun was in there, shells and all. We took that over to the guy I gave the stuff to and drove some nails into a block of cement. Good fun!
More to post tomorrow. I'm being urged off to bed.
He's open again tomorrow. I'm going back!

That's a nice little mill looks like you got a few goodies with it too.

There are a few accesories, some things that do not belong loke wood lathe steady rests and possibly an adjustable fixture off something else. I pick it up Monday so I will know more then.

I really like the look of that drill press. I have a bigger one, but mine is not that cool looking.

Yeah me too, it will be replacing my current Rockwell DP and I thought that would never happen!

Great finds guys!
Mattblast and nine4gmc, nice padlocks!!

Thanks Jeff, I'm working on that ratcheting screwdriver trade ;) :bounce:

I just bought the same grinder with pedestal for 125.

I would have bought that 10" grinder at 125 for the base!

The single phase grinders went higher than the 3 phase, I wanted them all but unfortunately I had $600 to spend and the Mill and DP being what I really wanted, was last in order. I bid the grinders up but kept thinking about how much I wanted the others and had to drop out. It's hard having a limited budget at the auction, you have to pick and choose what to go all out on. There was a chance that I could have passed on these grinders like I did, then get outbid on the Mill and go home with nothing, pissed off. It could have went the other way too, thinking I will get outbid on the Mill I spend too much on all the grinders and drill press with foot controls, flat file cabinet and more, then get to the Mill and it goes for an amount I could have spent had I not bought the other things and I miss out. :lol_hitti

Super thanks! I have been checking them(Atlas Mill) out over at hobby-machinist, where I get info for my Craftsman Lathe. There are a couple guys working on them, I have been drooling ever since I saw the style and footprint. This will fit my shop much better than the Cincinnati vertical I got in Feb. and that machine had limitations too, for being so big. When I saw the Atlas this morning, I went through all the emotions. Happy, sad, anxious, depressed, mad, sick to my stomach. Glad it's all over now! This one has several ATLAS emblems on it, I didn't see any Craftsman but it's still wrapped up. Make a list of parts you need and I will keep an eye out. I downloaded the manual over at OWWM.

I had just smiled, then started to talk as you can see my eyes are closing too. Blame it on the woman :lol_hitti
Yes, I wanted to buy it just for that reason, not enough cash, had to gamble on the Mill.

Super thanks man, IDK what accessories yet, and definitely only that one cutter. I'm hoping there are more things in the box. :dunno:

Two Yahoo Groups support those Mills. Good groups operationally (People and Files) but Yahell has been screwing with things so the groups formats under NEO are a pain to navigate...

http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Atlasshaperandmillingmachineusersgroup/conversations/messages

http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/atlas_craftsman/conversations/messages

The Other accessories that are great finds, are the mill vise, made by Atlas, (smaller than most, so hard to find) and of all things the T slot nuts. a lot of guys wind up making them.

Clamps for holding parts are key also, but those are easy to find aftermarket. if you look at the 50's craftsman catalogs you can get a general idea of things that Sears made available...

Other than that, finding cutters and learning the machine's limitations one of which is to NEVER try climb milling it's just not strong enough for that sort of cut...

I tried out yahoo lathe group but could not get passed the poor layout of the site so I gave up. it literally hurts my head to navigate there. They need to try some vBulletin software...

Dave, the cutter blade for that is well worth getting, but do some shopping around, and you can probably find one cheaper on the secondary market. Just a quick Google and I'm seeing them for $14 and then there is Amazon and Eprey.

:lol_hitti Crazy coincidence. Obviously the PO didn't think it was worth it, so in the trash it went. :dunno: Note it was pretty rust, pic is after clean up. It is still tight and works smooth. I need to work the edge over as it looks like someone tried to sharpen it on their driveway. It is kinda a neat knife. The "other" blade actually locks like a liner lock knife would via a brass strip down the middle of the knife.

:lol_hitti I know, it was almost like. "Well I have to get all this home somehow. :headscrat Either a cardboard box or this Craftsman tool box. I guess I will take the tool box. I bet they even felt sorry for him and gave him a deal on the box.

?..... Why do they call it an electricians knife? :dunno: O excuse me a "Professional" electricians knife? I'm not a professional electrician, am I qualified to use it?

The Army used to issue knives like this to linemen. They came in a heavy leather sheath with a large pair of lineman's pliers. I have my dad's old one somewhere, it was made by Utica but is otherwise identical to the above.

Sorry, still no idea why this is an "electrician's knife".:D

Harbor Freight sells a knock off of the Kett shear. Their replacement blades run about $5 if I recall and they fit the Kett shear perfectly. I fished one out of the trash a few years ago and was too cheap to pay full pop for Kett parts, but $5 is right up my alley. It's a handy tool to have.

Same vendor had about 8 large C clamps..Picked up the 2 biggest for 5 dollars...Guy said they came out of an old ship builders barn....Friggin' monsters.

  hold on, so is that $5 each or $5 for the both? Either which way, you ****, just one way you may **** 2x as much as the other. :D Me thinks you should have bought all 8. :headscrat

Holy **** CTY, those are what? 14" opening? I passed on a couple of 12" clamps yesterday, because for their size. they were the most flimsy clamps I'd ever seen. THOSE I would have bought in a heartbeat! (I also passed on a Kennedy 520 for $5, but that was because it was thrashed, and I haven't filled the ones I have, yet...)

And dang, 11/16 square. Not sure that one has ever some up for me in use, but I have one in either Proto or Plvmb... :dunno:

Thanks...It was 5 dollars for both...I didn't buy the others because I really don't have a use for them, and wasn't sure I'd be able to unload them. I did take the guys phone number though..he said he had at least 50 more of them at his house, but he'd want 5 bucks each for those. :dunno:

Another stop at the flea market today, beautiful day for shopping...but not a lot of deals. Oh well, what I saved:

-Klein lineman's pliers, very old, code on handle is 0 KIK 16D2. Anyone know what this means? $2
-Ford marked DOE wrench, $1
-Craftsman DOE wrench, 19/32 and 11/16, $1
-Crescent small adjustable, 5 inch size, $1
-lot of 11 sockets, including 9 Craftsman, 1 Proto and 1 Armstrong. 4 of the Craftsman are 8-point sockets, I think I have a complete set of them now. $7 for all
-2 screwdrivers, 1 Klein and 1 TRW, FREE
-lot of 6 Proto TORX drivers, $3 in the pouch
