I've finally had some time to post pictures of my single estate sale stop yesterday. I already posted a picture of my Wilton 3" bullet vise for 10.00 in the vises thread but here is everything else i grabbed that morning.

Lots of machine tools like dial indicators, measurement tools, lots of cutting bits and end mills, 15th edition Machine handbook and other assorted itmes. The Proto box seemed full of tools but when i got home, i was full of ground out lathe cutting bits At least the box was in nice shape

Harbor Freight sells a knock off of the Kett shear. Their replacement blades run about $5 if I recall and they fit the Kett shear perfectly. I fished one out of the trash a few years ago and was too cheap to pay full pop for Kett parts, but $5 is right up my alley. It's a handy tool to have.

I bet they stamp the blade in the same factory in the wonderful world of Mao.

I've been hiding out on vacation and generally busy with life in the past few weeks. Its calmed down now so i should be on here a bit more frequently

As for the vise, its a shop made vise and extremely well made. I grabbed it because i thought it was name brand but the initials happened to be that of the previous owner. Ill figure out a handle for it and use it at work.

Wasn't planning on going to any sales today but had to pick up a friend and there was one on the way. Figured at the very least I could get a box of stuff for a few bucks. Very hard to see with one bulb in the tool area of the basement (seems the tools were always in my shadow), and only had 10 minutes to look. Picked up a box full of tools for $5. Went back on the way home and got the rest for another $17. So $23 total.

I didn't notice that one was differnt from the other two until I started to clean them up.

Only one with the double threads.

All are marked Park Tools CCP-2 so I just assumed they are all the same. Hmm...

I have the simpler Park crank puller but run on my older road bike 80's era Shimano Dura Ace and have a **** ton of Shimano 600 and old Campy stuff in boxes along with double back-ups of my NLA Dura Ace suff so I knew what the tools did.

Guess I;ll have to keep two and sell only one off then.

D frontier, it looks like the bulk of the cleanup has been done for you. That's worth a lot in someones time alone. That's a sweet deal. I see similar boxes like that beaten and rusted out. The last one (Snap On, sorta like that, thrashed badly) was a guy I know that runs an ongoing garage sale out of a pole kit building on weekends. It sat for a lot of months for $700. The thing that kills me is that it did sell. Me, I can buy a lot of boxes for $700. Not like yours, of course. So...you ****.

stopped by the only yard sale that was had tools in the ad. The guy didn't have any thing out to look at, every thing was in boxes and totes, so I glanced at the 3 boxes of tools and 90 0/0 were craftsman and tool truck brands, so as I looked the guy would quote me a price on each piece, I asked how much for all 3 boxes so that he didn't have to put them out and price each, He wanted 100.00 for all three boxes, he took my offer for 60.00, lots of of loose sockets. Will have to wait until I get off work to sort this all out...Rich

From the boxes yesterday: Lots of chaff that got set aside. But lots of wrenches. Challenger, Cman, S-K, Mac, etc. Only a few off shore ******* brands. Same w/ sockets. Got a full set of S-K and enough to complete a set my dad had and some to spare. Plus a few =V= extensions that look like they just rolled out of the factory. Pair of Channelock DeArment 420's. I still can't get over the ships bell. Its about 1/4" thick solid brass. That set me back $3.00.
I found the glasses in the back of the machinist box. Not my prescription.
He gave me the Magellen free in a Targus pouch, cables and all. This is fricking sweet! I like it better than my wife's phone. It's simple and stupid. Hooked right up to the satellites. No more maps or guessing sales location.

some odd ball pliers, I had to look the center ones up on bing and it sent me right back to this site, some one else had asked what they were in 2001 I think, not sure what the ones on the left are for they say tube on one side and hose on the other side... Rich..

The ones next to the socket are for removing a rubber hose from a metal line. The center tool is for holding brake pads apart inside a caliper and the last pair are some sort of snap ring plier

Went back today and spent $15.00. ow it got looked over I don't know. I found this Thor drill with a hole saw attached to it. It's a monster and all torque. The fellow there told me he was using it years ago on a ceiling beam and hit a metal pipe on the other side and it almost threw him off the ladder. I could see it breaking your wrist if you don't mind what your doing. It's a work of art, too. I'm afraid we will never make things like this again. Not for the general public to purchase.
I figured if I had one hole saw I might as well get the box full of them that were there. And the buffing wheels. And the cutting wheels. (I need the muslin ones for the polishing station. That's another story. My Fri 13 late). Also some files. None that great, but there is a 3 pc. set by Stihl shiny new and an Oregon electric sharpener I will never use. A file easier and faster to me.
Also got a B & D pneumatic disk sander from ??? 60's?
The HP Jornada was another freebie. He used it as a home inspector, so it still has evaluation software on it. No WiFi built in but I have the card for that. I remember when I wanted one of these as a portable and ended up with a Dell Axim PDA. Better late then never.

Went to an auction on Sat. and did ok. Stuff was going for cheap, but a lot of it I didn't need or have the room for. This was my haul for $31. The scythe was $3 (right in time for Halloween), mostly all the other stuff on the ground with the exception of the vises was a whopping $2. Even came with at least $20 in scrap brass/copper and low voltage wire. I had no intention on bidding on it because I'm running out of room as is, but the price just won me over.

The vises are in ok shape, but they were all only $15. The Reed(go figure) is in the worst shape with a repair on the rear and a couple of casting cracks. Oh yeah it needs a handle made as well. I think I'm going to unload it for pretty cheap if anyone is interested in a project. It's a No. 105. The second larger vise of the group has no name on it. I'm going to put it on the vise thread and see if someone can ID it for me. It's missing the swivel base, but opens and closes nice. Probably gonna hit the for sale block as well. I'm probably going to keep the smaller ones for now. They are easier to store.

The Lawson clock is cool. I put it in my dad's shop since he has a nice Lawson display kit that a vendor hooked him up with. That lot came with the Edwards school bell along with a ton of JFK memorabilia (newspaper clippings, LIFE mag, cards, Inaugural speech on vinly etc.) which looks like it goes for pretty good coin on fleebay. That was a $3 score. My mom is a JFK groupie so I'll be giving her some of the stuff. I'm planning on hooking the bell up to the garage but don't know how to hard wire it. Oh yeah, I'm pretty much a ***** in the electrical department.

My favorite score was the vintage oil can since it's perfect for my Craftsman drill press. It looks to be from around the same time. It's filled up with cutting oil and ready to go.

My Friday the 13th came a day late on Sat. the 14th.
The first sale of the day seemed remarkable. It was just a couple of blocks away and open earlier than the one I crashed Friday (Officially open Sat. to the public). The only person there was a youngish looking crack *****. Its hard to guess the age of a crack *****. Crack does terrors to the teeth and complexion.
I found the buffing station seen in the pictures attached. I asked about it, she called someone, and the quote was $20.00. Then I noticed a new in box security keypad door set. I asked her, and clearly, Will you take twenty for the grinder AND the door set? She said yes and I gave her the twenty. Score! ...Or so it would seem.
A coupe of hours late I hit my last sale for the day and run into David Lee, a local junk dealer and all around good guy. We start taking and get on the topic of strange people. He mentions to be on the lookout for someone. See, there's this guy that was at this sale. A tall lanky guy driving a beat up maroon truck. Walked away with a lock set worth a few hundred bucks.
We laugh, cry, hug, whatever, and say our good-byes. But I start thinking about his story. I'm a tall, lanky guy. I don't have a maroon truck. Its grey and dead in the driveway. But then I notice I'm driving a beat up maroon Tempo. A car is like a truck, sort of, if you break out the back window to put stuff in it. I also noticed I had just purchased a security lock system earlier that morning.
This didn't sit well in my mind so I figured I would swing by the first stop on the way home and make sure I wasn't the culprit. I pull in and another older winning character that looks like she got caught in the meat grinder of life is waiting, arms crossed, drama on her mind.
Sure as shite, I'm the criminal mastermind shes after. I could also see beneath the ruin of a human face that she was anticipating some sort of confrontation that she could tell her illegitimate children for years to come.
Nope! Not going to happen. I came back in good faith. Explained step by step the exchange that took place, slowly, without using big words. Brought back the lock set because I understand that there are errors in communication, misunderstandings, crack whores.
I don't think she was buying, fellas. She saw the whole thing from the time I got there to the time I left. No! She saw the time as I sulked away with a big *** buffing station and a huge box on top, concealed in my massive black trench coat, while I twirled my waxed mustache, laughing all the way to my maroon truck. (I have a third arm and hand I reserve for the mustache when I'm hauling a heavy load). I then got the lowdown of how her husband paid hundreds of dollars for the set just so they could sell it at their sale. The proceeds to buy needed crack for their children. It would cost me $100 if I wanted it. Did it not occur to me that people don't hold garage sales to get rid of things without charging a premium?
It was bizarre that her friend didn't jump in and explain her part. You know, brokering the deal? The cash exchange? She just sat there starring off into space.
I was polite 100% and, handed over the set explaining that my integrity is worth more than shop lifting at garage sales, and started making my way back to my car. Then she calls out, "Aren't you going to pay me for the grinder"?
Are you kidding me??? I'm grinding my teeth. Is this some sort of shakedown???
I re-explained a phone call was made, a price was set, money exchanged, etc. Unhappy, she finally let it go.
I'm trying to be humorous about the incident, but I'm still pretty angry about the whole thing. It's like being accused of being a racist. I would still have gone back even if I knew I was going to get this kind of reception, unexpected as it was. This is one of those freakishly rare situations that life puts you in.
Sorry I went so long on this one.
For you guys with crack whores in your lives, I don't mean to say they are necessarily bad people. So no offense. And I hate to judge a book by it's cover. But I'm judging these two eight ways till Sunday.
I do believe that bad things happen to bad people, here and after. And I have a feeling that she and her friend have been dealt a bad life by choice and have plenty to look forward to in the future. So I'm not going to worry about it to much, After I cool down in a few days.
Meanwhile, I have a kick *** buffer with a built in filter system. Check it out. I earned it.

Went to some yard sales and a Flea Market this weekend. At the yard sales I got a small rubber mallet, a Stanley mason hammer, an axle spline socket, a mint Arrow electric brad nailer in case, a handful of USA sockets (mostly Craftsman V), a Craftsman V DOE wrench and the green case has all Taiwan sockets and socket wrenches. $10.50 for these items.

At the flea market I got a USA ball pein, about 42 Dremel bits, an Apex 1/2 impact extension, a rubber mallet, some chisels and a cool Armstrong USA 1/4 drive set to include breaker bar, socket driver and sockets. $8
