Well, I see what looks like the latch for the tool box, A Vee Block, (Same drawer) Some cutters of some sort, (Same pic);

Mostly lathe cutters in the next pic.

Mostly tooling or parts in the next two.

That is a really neat looking pipe wrench and a nice find. In my attached picture, is the spot circled in red a hole that goes all the wall through the handle casting? If so, is there anything mechanical in there?

If you look at my green lines it also appears that you have a pretty bent hook jaw. That is interesting, because most pipe wrenches I have seen will bend or snap the handle long before the hook jaw will suffer any damage or fatigue. Maybe they didn't harden the hook jaws back then like they do now.

The bend appears to be intentional so it can pivot. The slot you pointed out is open and a part of the pivot mechanism extends SLIGHTLY into it, though I can't figure out why. I'm going to do a patent search to see if that sheds any light on the subject.

An estate sale that was also a target of opportunity, had TONS o'rust, but this was this only save; $7 for a Stanley #62 Low angle plane. I still need to clean the gunge off the inside, but it should clean up beautifully!

this was an outstanding buy.

Estate Sale goodness:

26" wide two box Sears tool box. 30" bottom, 18" top. Drawers appear to be friction instead of roller, but they are silky smooth and the metal framework is very rigid and not flimsy. No badging except SEARS on the left top corner, not even a Craftsman logo. I want to say 90's? Any clues on this set? Nicely kept, glossy and ready to go. Unusual with no silver handles- no indications there ever were any on this one.

Also in the pic is a 14' adjustable ladder- one of those that can lock in different positions. For $40, I like that it can become a 5' tall platform which will be handy later for some projects.

Tool box had a lot of tools in it, but not automotive, which is fine since I'm full up on that, but I also quite like automotive tools. Still, one can never have enough drill bits!

Cute little PLVMB 1/4" socket wrench set. Allen wrenches, more screwdrivers, and some license plates. I don't know the age of the motorcycle plate- that predates me or my memory of seeing these. Ideas?

Lots of feeler gauges, steel machinists rules, calipers, misc sockets, speed wrenches, etc. All are USA made.

Files, nice tap and die SAE set (couple of pieces missing, but I think I found them in misc drawers elsewhere. Couple of drills- one 3/8 electric power drill and an early cordless that will likely be given to my father to disassemble for using the motor for RC boat use.

Couple of star tire wrenches (meh), flexible screwdriver set (meh), piece of steel plate (always willing to take steel), a roll of brass mesh (cool), some small chain, SWR meter (I just returned one I borrowed from a friend, so I can use this), and a sweet Craftsman dado blade set.

It's hammer time! Estwing ballpeen, unknown larger ballpeen that needs a handle, other hammers, lots of files, and yet more screwdrivers. I have too many now and will need to sell off some of these.

Time to throw a wrench into things with a pile of wrenches including drop offset ones. There's a nice set of large tin snips, more adjustable wrenches, pliers, some odd Craftsman gimmicky adjustables, a pipe clamp (I was about to fabricate one so this is a happy surprise), and four of these odd plier/clamps that use a bolt as one of the jaws. I've seen these before, but don't know what they are for?

There's also a two drawer dark grey older Craftsman box that didn't age well. Rusty and crusty. I've got the rust handled, but the finish is messed up and it will need a respray. Not going to show that one.

Everything is USA made save for a half dozen little things that are already set aside to be given away or recycled.

Overall, I paid $ total. Got the roller box for $100 empty, or $200 with all that you saw. The ladder and some other items brought it up to $275.

Did I do okay? :) I don't know what to use that red roller Sears tool box for. I don't have a purpose or need currently. Can't have too may tool boxes in your garage taking up space.

I own that box and have since about 2003 or so. IIRC, the silver 'handles' were add ons that you slipped over the lip. That particular owner may not have used them.

It functions. Keeps dust off of tools and hasn't fallen apart on me in 10 years.

And my bet is that they came from Boeing Surplus. I got a number of them from that source decades ago.

I found an odd phillips #2 screw driver with a wooden handle today. Looks like it once had black paint. On the shank is stamped:

V.T. CO. TOOL
KITE RIVER
MADE IN U.S.A.

I've not yet heard of this company and have yet to find even a scrap of info about it on Google. Any ideas?

I tried Google maps for KITE RiVER too with no results. The lettering is probably faded/worn so I tried KIT RIVER and some other variations with no results. WEIRD

I don't think the letter between Kit and River is an alpha letter, it does not match the font type used for "I" or "E" ("I"s are Sans serif, and the "E" is longer on the laterals)

Overall pic? esp. the handle?

OK I see the other pics you added! I'm guessing maybe 40's -50's based on grip style and the ferrule? I suspect that may have been made by a major and re-branded for "someone"

Makes sense. That would explain V.T. CO. TOOL (possessive) as opposed to V.T. TOOL COMPANY. Most manufacturers had a rivet in the ferrule but this one doesn't. I had hoped that would make it more distinctive, but there are a lot of wood handled screwdrivers out there. Thanks for the input.

KIT DRIVER perhaps

Yep, that makes sense.

so what we have is:

V.T. CO. TOOL
KIT DRIVER
MADE IN U.S.A.

Which probably translates to:

V.T. CO.
TOOL KIT DRIVER
MADE IN U.S.A.

:D

I see the cart you have there, I used a similar one for years to move copiers. Handy as hell.

Good eye. That salesman cart is a holdover when I serviced and moved copiers for Ikon Office Solutions. Hospital grade and awesome. It was great to drop copiers and fax machines on when making the rounds at larger sites.

How about Vermont Telephone Company (been around since 1890) - this screwdriver looks a lot like the Bell System screwdrivers I've seen on Fleabay. Wood handle to prevent shocks. Where's our resident phone company tool guy?

picked this up now I have to figure out how to use it. always wanted a TIG set up. came with tig set up and stick leads $350 at auction. I have known it since it was bought new in 2000. it has very few hours on it but was treated rough riding around in the back of a buggy.

Driving home this evening I saw, what I thought was a craftsman carry box sitting on top of a recycle bin/trash can. Performed the fastest parallel parking job of my life and ran back to grab not one but two boxes from the trash. :D

Highlights
-Husky CM-45 ratchet, after take apart, clean and lube it is a super smooth little 1/4" ratchet. My only other 1/4 ratchet is a cman RP, sadly it is no where near as smooth as the Husky.
-Indestro 1/4" breaker bar. Nice, but I like my proto breaker bar (from a member here) better. The indestro is a goofy shape.
-Craftsman T&G pliers
-Craftsman V DOE wrench
-USA visegrips without an adjusting screw :headscrat really good condition, but missing the screw.
-Then there were a few misc japan and taiwan tools, bolts, mic.
-Craftsman crown top box, needs some straightening and missing the tray , but solid.
-Misc black carry box. Great condition, only marking is "Made in USA" :dunno:

For $0 invested I am very happy, saved from the recycle and now in a loving home.

EDIT: Thanks for all the offers and interest in the breaker bar and ratchet. I'm keeping the ratchet and other tools; the breaker bar has a new home as of last night. If I happen to run across any other indestro 1/4" breaker bars I will pick them up for you guys (and gals).
