Mad-cad's new Shed build

I'll try my best at keeping this thread up to date.The shed is a used steel portal framed building that had been put up twice already,hopefully this will be its final resting place.
Its 50ft wide by 80ft long,20ft bay spacing,with a 12 -4 pitched roof.It will eventually have a concrete slab on grade floor with a thickened edge. The steel spans are suported on footers with 2ftX2ft steel reinforced columns,with the anchor bolts set into the top of the columns.Here are some pictures in some kind of order.

Excavation started in May/june 2011

Because the building site is on a hill there was quite a bit of excavation needed,a bunch of ledge and large rocks were encountered.

I seem to have lost the pictures of the footers getting done.
The columns had a bunch of rebar in them,we cut and bent the rebar on a portable cutter bender which worked well.

We then formed up the columns and made a wooden jig to hold the anchor bolts in place.

Next we poured the concrete for the columns.

December 2011,concrete forms were stripped off the columns about 2 days after they were poured,then recovered with concrete blankets to insulate the green concrete from frost.

The week before Xmas we backfilled and compacted around the concrete columns.

Here's where I'm at as of today,My buddy Walt came over with his boom truck,Walt on the crane and Kit and myself running around on the scaffolding we finally have some steel stood up.The first bay is the most important as it has all the diagonal tensioning rods in there that enable you to square it all up,the remaining bays are built from this bay
Tomorrow should see a bunch of progress,the pictures are a bit dark coz it was getting late.

Yesterday and today we thrashed on the shed some more,shlepping steel out of the pile and bolting columns down and truing them up,and hoisting rafters in the air.
I rented a 'Genie' man lift to help bolt the purlins on and stuff like that ,this thing is a must have when building one of these sheds.
As you can see it was another ****** day in Colorado.

Yesterday we finished hanging the last 2 main spans ,starting to get a feel for the size of the shed now.This coming week we'll be focusing on bolting up all the purlins and gurts.

Wow...I would be sitting in my lawn chair all day looking at that view. Never would get anything done! It will be nice to see the finished product.

The purlins are done on the top of the shed,due to the snowload requirements(50 psf) of our county we had to add extra purlins between the original ones.
Still have some girts/wall purlins to put up.I'm rounding up all the tools today as we are expecting a decent snowfall tonight and this coming week.
I will be talking with a buddy of mine who owns an insulation install company and weigh up my options on that side of things.Some types of insulation for steel sheds are installed before the metal cladding is done,then the metal cladding is screwed down over the insulation.Or I can go with a spray foam after I've installed the cladding ....mucho$$$$ anyway I'll see what I'm up against.

Well we managed to get some more work done on the shed,we scratched in the underground plumbing for the office and floor drains and had the county come out and inspect it,backfilled then prepped the first bay/1000sf ready for concrete.I'm doing the slab in four pours.Any more would be too tricky with the wind and the sun.
First pour last Thursday went pretty smooth without any hiccups,we graded out the next bay last fridayand laid out the rebar.Today I tied all the rebar off and formed up the sides and the cold joint,we are now ready for pour 2 on tuesday at 8.00am.I'll be glad when the concrete is done!!

Just a quick update,we poured the other 3 bays,with the last pour 10 days ago.Here's some more pics.There won't be any progress on the barn until Bonneville speedweek is over,got to hussle on the the race car now!

Not much progress has been going on with my barn over the last year.
That incurable Bonneville salt flat disease has been plaguing me.
Started back on the shed with earnest a few days ago, managed to figure out the structure for the East and West endwalls.
Here's a picture of the East end nearly finished with its opening for the huge 16x16 overhead door.

Finished off the west endwall steel structure this afternoon.It finally warmed up after the 26 degree temp this morning and a fresh covering of snow!

That's funny! The chap in the photo is one of our crew members from up near Newcastle in England and he's wearing a Newcastle United soccer shirt. We were out at the salt flats racing the white Dodge back in August.
