I just got started doing this, so mine is basic....Hopefully some day I'll up the ante to a "real" kit.

Although I must say, the brews taste pretty good from this.

If you can make Mr. Beer, you can do extract brewing. $100-150 of equipment will get you started. Then it's two nights, three hours each, and after a month, you've got some great beer...
I've recently begun using yeast starters with all my brews and that adds a couple more $$ and an extra hour to the process the night before you brew, but it's so worth it.
Also, check out Northern Brewer if you haven't already. They have a great selection, good prices and excellent customer service. I'm fermenting their Chinook IPA right now and am very excited about the way it's smelling.
