Cleaned up a repainted my Dad's old Craftsman bench grinder and my Father-in-Law's old Wilton 9300 bench vise. :D

Put my car back together. Blew out an idler pulley in the timing setup.

Audi a4 v6. The pulley on there lost its bearings all over the place. Luckily I noticed the strange noise at work and managed to limp it home.

Drove my Grand Cherokee onto the lift to do an oil change, and hit my table saw which I had forgotten to move out of the way.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I worked on building an oil pan baffle for my friends 5.0L powered Miata.

First up, a few measurements and a sketch. This was much easier with the engine not in the car and is upside down on the stand.

IMG_20131016_175156_377_zps335579a4.jpg

Next I traced the pan outline onto a piece of cardboard.

IMG_20131016_175149_339_zpsee7fbc21.jpg

I then transferred all the measurements onto the cardboard to make the template.

IMG_20131016_183647_904_zpsf98e0eb4.jpg

Once the template was cut out I was able to do a test fit on the pan.

IMG_20131016_184601_544_zps14c3d755.jpg

Once I was satisfied with the template, I transferred it onto the sheet metal.

IMG_20131016_185410_119_zps71a4c66f.jpg

Fits like a glove!

IMG_20131016_195221_178_zpsf562d67a.jpg

The gap seen here is to allow drainage back into the sump area.

IMG_20131016_195009_231_zps2e5925ef.jpg

The only thing remaining is to make the hole for the dipstick. Once that is done I can weld the baffle into the pan.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I built a couple of rolling wooden work benches for long-term bike projects.
I can roll them out and work, then roll them back against the wall until I get a chance to get back to them. I have two bike lifts, which is where I do 99% of My work, so these are just handy for storage and only cost Me about $75 to build both of them.

Here is the other bench, with a long-term Panhead project. The benches are slightly different. They are very , very sturdy and despite the narrow footprint, very stable. The castors are rated at 275 lbs each and make the table easy to maneuver in a crowded shop.

Very cool Bronson! Billy's got an ATK dirt bike in the shop right now and made a front wheel stabilizer on top of a 10-foot table. Unlike yours, it doesn't roll around too easily in my crowded shop. LOL But it was perfect for a no-budget project that works great.

Here it is with the Suzuki drag bike up there ...

... and a 2-minute walk around video I did awhile back when he decided he was ready to get rid of it. (Still does ...)

P.S. Don't be ashamed, be proud for using what you've got on hand! That turns into money you can spend on something else. :D

Working with fiberglass for the first time. Taking longer than expected to set, we'll see how it is after sitting overnight.

if the fiberglass doesnt work, i had a friend once who made a "Jack" (in the Box) head by blowing up a large balloon and doing paper mache over it then popping the balloon. it lasted several halloweens

Don't be ashamed! Those dollies work awesome. Assuming you used them a few times with something heavy before slapping them on those stands (to avoid initial/short life failures), I'm sure they'll be fine.

What engine is this for?

I assume there is a drain plug in the deep sump. I see a plug at one end but haven't seen the whole pan in any of the pictures.

I once did a V8 Vega and had to do much of what you are doing. The next year the Monza came out and Chevy did all that work for me - which was good because on my first run, I hit a dip at 60+ mph on a country road and wiped mine out.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Asked a friend that works at the local hospital if they had any no longer used, I'll call them trees the things that roll around with you that they hang bags of liquid on and plumb into to you. Long story short, he set me up with a base for one.

I've had this gas saver for a while and wanted to start using is. When doing torch work you can adjust your torch and relight at the same adjustment every time your pick it up and wave the tip past the pilot light. Then when you hang it back on the arm it turns off the torch till next time you need it.

Parked my car. Took all the **** out of it and switched off the lights. Zero time left in the day to work in there. I will be working in my shops 'workshop' today though.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Two finished jobs shipped out, did the final details on the latest (another pair of Commandos that'll be on the Friday Powder **** tomorrow) and got them ready to go, and started the prep on a pretty big custom job, an Edelbrock intake and valve covers, air cleaner assembly, and a water neck. It's been big block heaven around here lately! This is my first small block stuff in awhile, and the last three have been brand new parts. Kinda nice for a change ...

Nice lights! But if I recall, shouldn't there be at least 1/2" spacing from the wood panels where they're mounted due to ballast heat.

I spaced mine using a 2" hole saw and 3/4" plywood.

JMHO.

Drove an hour and a half over into deepest darkest North Wales (and boy was it dark, the seller lived up a dirt track in the hills) to collect 4M of insulated flue pipe for the garage woodburner. I'm also waiting on delivery of some used locking bands and a rain cap for it. Almost got everything I need to install it and get some heat out there. Then I drove an hour and a half back.
