Same here... all I got was a humming noise and endless pop-ups before I gave up.

x2. I tried to watch the Mandatory Machining video but the endless popups for upgrades, downloading Real Player and signing up for an account were a little tedious.

Finished the cradle for the speed boat I'm building over the winter. Built the shop last winter. Nice to finally work in the garage instead of on it.

Woa, cool project. What are your plans for power? Expected performance and usage? I doubt if you do much water skiing up there? :dunno:

What process and machine do you plan to weld the hull with?

That is a nice feeling isn't it. I felt the same way, took almost four months to build and all I could think about was getting to work IN it rather than ON it. Now after it being built for 18 years I grin like a schoolboy every time I walk into it to work.:3gears:

Nice looking boat project. Be sure to keep pictures coming of the progress.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last night I got home and washed the coach before putting her away for the winter. Then cleaned up some items from last weekends major service on the coach and prepared the shop to receive some paying jobs in the coming week.

I hate it when I get into my winter rutt without RVing and spending so much time at work. I also schedule as much work in my shop as I can between November and February so I can make enough money to pay for my RVing/playing the rest of the year. Oh well, I guess I should be grateful to have the job I do.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I started to modify my Chinese arbor press to let me use a 3/4" ratchet handle (also Chinese) to operate it.

Removed the shaft:
i-s5DH82v-M.jpg

Here is the shaft next to the ratchet I will use:
i-mz8wvGp-M.jpg

I started to cut it off in the lathe, but realized I do not have a parting tool that will go that deep:
i-L9SknXh-M.jpg

So, I went to the band saw instead:
i-mRFDHst-M.jpg

i-TRbbb3M-M.jpg

Then back to the lathe to face it off and center drill:
i-9ZpnHS3-M.jpg

Ok, instead of a week off, I had time today to do more work on this project.

I finished boring a center hole and then a larger stepped bore for the modified extension to fit into, then cut off and turned the outside of the extension shaft and drive end to true them up to center and size them to have a .002" interference fit on both bores in the arbor shaft:
i-s9BxrfH-M.jpg

Then I used the 20-ton hydraulic press to force the turned-down extension square drive into the hole. At one point it bound up and I was afraid it might not go in all the way, and then . . . BANG!. . . it popped and I was able to press it the rest of the way to the bottom of the bores:
i-WGfBgr6-M.jpg

I re-assembled the arbor press:
i-bKjHBG6-M.jpg

Popped in the ratchet:
i-z2wSbLm-M.jpg

And hung on it with all my weight:
i-TT4WKr7-M.jpg

It doesn't budge, but I may run a bead of weld around the perimeter of the pressed-in drive just for additional insurance, because I know some day I'll have a cheater pipe on that ratchet.

Anyone have any ideas what to use this for ??:

i-zL7s7nQ-M.jpg

Update 11/1/2013:
Ok, so I couldn't leave it alone. I welded a bead around the inserted piece:

Replaced the distributor cap and rotor button on the Buick wagon. Also put a battery mat between the battery and battery tray. Replaced the needle valve in my portable air tank. It was the cause of my slow leak.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

fetched tools for my brother as he started taking the 5 speed out of his truck. I should have taken it out myself.

That boy's got a whole lot of quit in him.

Came home from work and had the 5 speed out in alone in 45min

Again "That boy's got a whole lot of quit in him"

And it is Halloween so after I mopped up the red atf with a white towel I couldn't resist coming in the house with the red soaked towels to my head calling for my daughter (13) and telling her to drive me to the ER then collapsing to the floor.

Nice classic green box. Where about in Ohio are you? :+1:
My race shop is in Lewis Center which is just North of Columbus but I live in Sunbury.

Is that a Crown pallet jack? That kind of repair looks waaaayyy too familiar.

yes, my neighbor really likes it because it has narrow forks. He rents in the same complex I do. It's amazing how easy it is to make friends when you have a welder. :bounce:

This is my desktop CNC mill. It started off as a Taig CNC ready mill @ $700 and by the the time it was fully CNC'd the total was around $2k. I bought it 10 years ago in college to teach myself CNC programming.

I know what you mean. Once people know you can weld they come out of the woodwork with jobs that they can't seem to find anyone else to do.

Refinished my homemade cat litter box. I built it last year and wanted to give it a facelift. I used milk paint for the blue and stain and urethane for the top.

Put up a couple of BL12RT barn light reflectors from Menards. Have a set of those cheap 105W CFL bulbs on order arriving next week. If it turns out to be our lighting solution, I'll be putting up a bunch of these!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not exactly built in my garage... but I did built it to store my power tools that are taking up space in my garage.

It's 4 ft x 12ft with 6 1/2 tall inside height. I'm guessing it weighs over 1000 pounds, which is gonna **** when I have to slide it 3ft to the left up against the house. Also, I still need to trim out the front and side doors and install the locking hardware if the UPS man ever delivers it.

Not sure why tinypic rotates the photos...?

Damn man, how big of cat do you have :wtf:

If you have taught your cat to do his business through the hole, what have you sealed the wood with inside?

Changed the rear tire on my DRZ...

I want one. Unfortunately a fair amount of highway duty is in the cards for anything I own.

Not today, but we can pretend:

balanced the front wheel and changed the fork oil on my KLR

Power will be a 150 Merc Optimax. I'll switch back and forth between prop and jet unit depending on use in salwater or on the river. Will use to hunt, sport fish and wolf trap out of. I purchased the Hobart Ironman 230 with spoolgun for the job. So far it seems to be doing the trick.

Changing tires on a DRZ-SM is a PAIN. Finding a 6.5 tube is tough too.
I feel your pain.

ahhh 13... I remember that. My daughter still thought I was intelligent and loveable.

She's 16 now, those days are long gone. Get ready for the change... it's coming

Good advice there raskal. Having been a teenage girl myself, I can testify that they become possessed for a few years. Hang in there though -- she'll be back eventually. :D

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Installed Central Vacuum (well actually tied in to the house central vac system)...

Got a Dust Deputy so I wouldn't send all of the **** to the central vac bag and upset the misses by filling it up.

First days worth of dirt....about 4 inches deep. 50 foot hose reaches to the car when it's parked in front of the garage and reaches all corners within the garage.

Central vac is turned on/off when you plug the hose in which is a PIT, so I'll be adding an on/off switch on the wall just above the dust bucket.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Found these old clamps in dad's shop while helping him clean it up, brought them home and worked at freeing and cleaning them up. They are solid and have some weight, they seem like they'll be good sturdy clamps once I get them cleaned up and working. Colt Batavia is on 2 of the handles, I didn't find markings on the shorter clamps.

Unloaded some more insulation from Menards for the garage. Menards has a great deal on insulation right now. Put together a scoffold that I bought from hf to help install the ceiling insulation. painted some pontiac engine parts.

Cleaned ou the first stall of the garage so SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) can park her truck there. Then filled it back up with some fantastic cabinets I found on CL that are destined for my shop.

But that's a while 'nother story...

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Replaced the downpipe on my 93 MR2 Turbo motor swapped 99 Celica. I was backing into the garage, and the gravel has spread a bit more than I thought (normally pull the car in instead of back in) and my exhaust resonator caught and brought the car to an abrupt halt. I immediately heard the exhaust leak, but didn't realize the downpipe was nearly torn in half. I rent, but I guess I've got to get some gravel and try to get level with the concrete slab of the garage.

Stacked two cords of firewood with Mrs Outlander. Today I have important tasks like inspecting the HF tire changer I bought last week while in the US, preparing/photographing some ATV tires to resell, measuring the copper crush washers I bought for the Outlander (inquiring minds on other forums want to know the size). Boy, that alot - might need to work a nap in!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Got really frustrated at electrical outlets!

Lost power to what appears to be the last two outlets on the run. They are after the GFI. Measure 121V at the line and load. What appears to be the next outlet inline has 74v! WTF? Wires have continuity so now I am confused. Have checked all the other outlets in the house, crawled up in the rafters and traced out the wires. Nothing shows as causing the voltage drop. Won't even light a 25W lightbulb but the tester lights up?

The search continues.....
