I just got back from a CL buy. I have no interest in the Stack-On top. I was after the Craftsman workstation that was under it, but the seller didn't want to separate them. His wife had bought him a Cman triple stack and he had no room for them except to store them outside (I saw the garage, he was right). He wanted $60, but accepted $50.

The bottom is what I think is a early 70's stand for a radial arm saw or shaper. It looks better in the picture. There is a lot of light rust.

Great score on the DP and X-Y Vase 9Four! Good luck with the rest of the auction!

Thanks Outlaw, been looking for one for a year now and finally scored. Sad thing is I loaded the DP by myself and damn if I didn't break one of the pot metal crank handles off the table... :(

It was a garage sale I found on craigslist, a son had inherited a jobox of tools from his father (whom I was told was a millwright). Most of the stuff at the sale was junk and I mean junk. There were a few machinists tools but they were all chinese. All of it was rusty (from that standing water). Then I found the level.

I am either going to resell or just hang onto and use to level machines. I have a small horizontal mill and I'd like to get a metal lathe when I have the room.

There were 3 in one lot today, $20 increments, I bid up to $120 and the other guy yelled out $200, that stopped the show...I did catch up with him later and offered $75 for one, he said he'd think on it and get back with me but I left soon after. :dunno:

Cool wrench, love the cabinet!!

$50 is a deal, you can throw some left over china tools in the top and probably get your money back, bottom FREE!

I would pay $50 for that bottom alone, perfect grinder/dp stand.

Nine, sweet drill press and x y table. Is that all you got? Any boxes? :dunno:

Matt :shocking:   Sounds like an expensive day, but damn did you get some nice stuff. YOU ****!!!!!!!!!

My drool points.

And $10 of the $52 for a grinder
......
$1 each!
Snap in flex 3/8 ratchet f851. My first flex!
Snap on a179. Have to look up use --> That is some type of trim removal tool for car trim/interior work

Today was a pretty nice day, a bit on the cool side, but no rain (yet). Surprised there were quite a few garage sales. Saw lots of tools, mostly junk, but no killer deals IMHO, surely no $1 flex head ratchet or $10 cman block grinders :willy_nil :p Trying to really watch spending these days, though kinda regret not grabbing a few other things after thought. Ended up walking away with a pair of very old (?) Channellock 317.5's for $1 Super tight and crisp jaws. Cleaned up pretty good.

Back to your regularly scheduled exciting posts.

Ariens snowblower. 5 HP Tecumseh. Those of you in the southern tier of our states may not appreciate this, but it was only $25.

I can appreciate it; I don't live in the snow, but I've been in it enough to know what a pain it is... But I always have this image of a street of guys out doing the snow blowing and each one sending it to the neighbors, and then again, and agian, untill the last guy must think its been a blizzare avery time it storms... :lol_hitti

Lady that lives next door has that basic philosophy, she waits until a wind storm blows her leaves on down the road... :dunno:

Nine new bottles of Liquid Wrench.

This cool Carter Fuel Part Bin with contents. Anyone know what those different blade looking things are and the two specialty tools? :dunno:
pic00440.jpg

Lots of push rod bolts?
pic00442.jpg

A couple pounds of NOS snap rings in various sizes.

and a couple 4 drawer organizers. The one on the right has a severely rusted bottom on one side, the other is great shape as it sat on top.

EDITED** The manual water pumps were free, no one bid $1 so they attached them to the organizer lot. wtf are they for anyway :dunno:

Thanks  Do you know roughly how old they are? :dunno:

Can you give some examples of what stuff went for at the auction? Specifically some of the boxes, the Delta sander and the WT radial drill? Doesn't sound like too many deals were to be had. :( I take it the shop did mostly crank and cam work?

Can you post a pic or model # on the "Manual water pumps"? Maybe a few closer pics of the unidentified items. I think I know what the dial gauge if for, but need a better pic to be sure.

Nice varied collection of stuff there nine!

The pumps are barrel pumps, you work the rods up and down and it lifts the liquid out to the spigot, where presumably you have a receptacle to collect it. not fun, and not good for thicker liquids...

Looks like they are missing the tops too. so a test could get messy...

ZK, they started using the plastic handles in the 50's I believe, so before that for sure. not all the breeds got grooved, I don't think actual channel lock types ever got them.

No clue how old they are. Outlaw nailed it with the water pumps(those long tin things laying on the dp in the back of my truck).

Some things went cheap, they had 6 Kleerflo Clean Master 70 parts washers and the three in real good condition brought $60 each. That was real low imo. The two anvils went for $100 pr, great deal for anvils in this area. Here is a run down of what I noted.

Baldor wide body buffer on original stand $60
Sunnen LBB 1499 Honing Machine $850
Sunnen LBB 1810 Honing Machine $1700
Kwik Way 5 way surfacer $900
Radial Arm DP $400
Rockwell 15-249 dp $225
Wooden wall cabinets filled with Chilton/Haynes books for decades $30
Monarch lathe $1600
Century Fox 20 ton press $800
Sunnen VR3500K Valve Refacer $800
Baldor 1022w Grinder on home made stand $200
Delta Rockwell 501 Sander $400
Curtis 9094 Air Compressor $50
Trailer Mounted 30 ton wood splitter $900
Coats 40-40SA Balancer $250
Taiwanese dp was actually $275, not $250 like I thought
Cincinnati Brickford Super Service $850
Cincinnati dp $800
Tube Bender $150
Starrett Vernier height gauge $80
(3) Starret 12" levels with extra tubes $200
Craftsman crown top cantilever $30
Craftsman V stack $200
SK Tools stack $300(I think, I was bailing after the Craftsman stack)
4-5' long NOS crank shaft went for $125 to a young cat. He said he was going to make a table out of it and the old man next to us like to have had a heart attack...

It may have been the most I ever spent at estate sales in a day. Well, I take that back - I did buy a KRL top and bottom box full of tools at a yard sale back in April. That was also the biggest and heaviest purchase of all time.

It was a good day today - tried to bribe my kids to go with me by offering them breakfast at Dunkin Donuts and some cash to spend, but they wanted to sleep in.

I have to slow down - my garage is a disaster full of piles and I need to go through it all and decide what I want to restore next.

Stopped at one garage sale today, it was a bust for tools, but had a couple good books I saved.

Audel's Millwrights and Mechanics Guide - over 1,000 pages of technical hardware specs, tools specs, and construction techniques, I was impressed with how much, and thought it was worth $6

How to Build the Small Block Chevrolet - I'm a sucker for car books if they are down my hot rod alley. I'm sure this will come in handy for my Impala project when I have to rebuild it's engine. Worth $6 as well.

Find a copy of Grump Jenkins book "Racing the Chevrolet Engine" It 's by far the best read out there for the SBC. Using it's principals I've built a number of street engines that were stunners, and not all of them were SB's!

Spotted a sale ad on Thursday that said "Guys Only garage sale." I snagged everything in the pic except for the NH 22 rifle, that was a second stop. Big scores for me were the Crown top toolbox and contents for $10, three like new air tools for 15, three bags full of new brass valves for 15, Al diamond plates 4 pieces for 15, and the milling table for $20. And the wife said we took in $415 on our own sale today. She sold $300 in tools.

The New Haven is a stock-loader semi auto. It's like new for an older gun so I thought it was worth the $70 the lady was asking.

Looks like you had a good time at your auction. Your organizers were a good score along with the DP. Are you planning on a cleanup/resto for the DP? That craftsman stack was nice but went pretty high IMO.

Mattblast...holy tool raid Batman!..a Buck each for those SO ratchets?...

that is cool to know, I have a very old set of 348-1/2 Linesman's pliers that have the same pattern on the grips. I rescued them from the trash a few years ago, and there is almost zero wear on the jaws or the side cutter.

Cool, Thanks Outlaw. I just thought they were too coo to pass up for $1, plus they are super tight and jaw hatchings are near perfect. I didn't realize they were channellock till I got them home and cleaned all the rust off. At first I thought they were Kraeuters based on the handle engravings.

Do you know what the "1/2" behind 317 stands for? I have a modern (blue handle) 317's that are nearly the same from the jaws up and they are marked 317. :dunno:

Nice stuff eborcim. Can you post a pic of the rifle, action side? I think I have the same one. IIRC that was actually made by mossberg and rebranded under a bunch of different house brands. I just can't remember the number off the top of my head. They are a very cool action in operation, the cartridge like jumps from the tube mag. Just be careful shooting high velocity ammo through it. : beer:

My submission for the end of the week.. Scored the cool AJAX Folding Drill Index's at an estate sale in Franklin, WI.. They were in a pile of junk in a very nasty basement estate sale. I picked up the cool Stacor Museum cabinet at the same place for a song along with the cool old Winter Tap & Die set.. Unfortunately, only one of the original Winter Taps were in the box. All the other Taps were from my "extras".

I picked up the None Better 1/2" Drive 12-pt sockets/ratchet from the last local flea market of the year. I had to piece together the whole set from three different containers--it's "alsmost" a complete set. Unless--there were no 5/8" and 9/16" sizes way back in the day.. Also a very nice old Imperial tube flare kit.
The rest of the sockets are Williams Impact, Proto, couple C-Man allen sockets and a couple odd-ball Hazet sockets. Not sharing the prices this time around.. :)

No clue on the "1/2" marking but a guess: are the old pair 1/2" longer than the newer 317's? are the new pair 7" long? :dunno:

Now, Now 9four, with "something toy can put things in" you can always put something else in, once you remove the first item!

(Wow I almost left the misspelling of "first" and that would have REALLY been bad! :pimpflash )
