Beacon-Morris garage heater

Well I looked at all the Ebay deals and decided that by the time I pay shipping+handling etc it would be about the same price as buying the Beacon-Morris heater from Menards, plus I'd have to wait for it to get shipped to me. So I just went ahead with the Menards unit.

I laid out the bracket positions at a 45 degree angle and hung them from two pieces of 2x4 laying across the ceiling joists with four 3/8" carriage bolts.

I fired it up just to test it out. Works pretty good. Everyone has told me that these things were pretty noisy, but I couldn't be happier with the way it sounds. It's about 10 times quieter than the torpedo heater I was using before.

It finally quit raining so I was able to get the flue vent installed today. I updated the pictures and video in my post above...

Looks nice. I wish I had thought about mounting my heater at a 45* angle in the corner.

Thanks John. It heats it up OK right now, but I'll be blowing insulation in the attic on Friday. Then it should be REALLY nice.

The lofts are the best idea I've ever had for storage. I got the idea when I was looking at the back loft in of one of those garden sheds at Menards. I've actually run out of things to put up there for now. Fairly easy and cheap to build, too.

As far as painting the OSB, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it right now. The garage was drywalled before, but it was pretty beat up and I had to rip it out to insulate the walls anyway. I absolutely HATE drywall in a garage because it's so easy to get it dirty and knock holes in it. I can take a full hammer swing at that 1/2" OSB and not so much as dent it.

This is my third heating season with this unit and everything is good.

I'm sure they are cheaper now, but I didn't want to wait. I had a 5 day weekend and wanted a project! I got mine the day after Christmas for $479.99

I got the insulation blown into the attic at R38 and it stays pretty nice in there now. Only thing left to do is insulate the garage door.

how big is youre garage. I am looking at the 45k btu for my 3 car garage in northern illinois suburbs. also how bad was the gas bill after the install.

I found a 25K BTU Beacon Morris Hydronic unit heater for 100 bucks brand new left over from a condo retrofit. They installed them in attics to keep things from freezing. I piped it into my existing FHW heat system as a separate zone. What a great system compared to the Mr. Heater and the propane bottle I used to have!

Tony, I live in Bloomington also. Any chance I could hire you to put a Beacon/Morris heater in my garage? It would be an installation similar to what you showed in your pictures.
