The Handy lifts can be bought in electric or pneumatic...pros and cons from owners?

Great thread...

I've got 2 air & 1 electric (all Handy Lifts). The Electric is smooth & once you flip the lever you can walk away & it automatically shuts off when at it's full height, or can manually be stopped at any height. Electric ones are a little more money but so is buying a compressor.

Thanks for the reply. Will help with my decision.

My lift i got from Craigs list. I paid 800 for it. Don't remember the name but its lifts higher then most lifts. Lift uses air over hydraulic cylinder. My dad passed away, my mom gave us each boys one of his cars. I got the Edsel. The car was a project and I didn't have the time to do it. I sold the car on eBay bought this lift and a big fish tank for my turtle. I have used handy lifts before and they are nice lifts. I looked into the harbor freight lifts they seemed a little wobbly from what i was used too. I also had a motorcycle jack I did not like it at all motorcycle fell over.

Can anyone else try to identify dirtybiker's lift table. I really like the simplicity of the design and the safety catch for the table. Dirtybiker, can you please get us more photos of your lift to help ID the lift? Thanks for posting.

built this 8 years ago to get me by until I could buy a "nice" one. Still use it to this day. A little tall for the big GS BMW's and the low bikes, but it's handy as all hell for the dirt bikes and long-term projects.

I was going to build my own until I found this one on Craig's list for $200.00, I would have had more in materials...

Handy lifts:

Last year I picked up these two Handy lifts with ATV side attachments off Craigslist for $700. They were in a TV repair shop & used to lift up big old rear projection TV's.

Homemade wooden lifts:

10 years ago I made a tall storage shelf on 4x4 legs so I could park my motorcycles under it to maximize the space of the little storage unit I was renting. After moving out of the unit, I cut them in half & braced them up. I still use them today.

My 380lb XT600 is a bit on the porky side to be lifting onto an old milk crate like I used to with my motocrossers, so I modified a scissor jack and use a heavy duty 1/2 drill to do the work.

I can get more pictures Monday when I am back in town. I looked up my lift new and it's over 1500. I have the side rails for snow mobiles and also the posts for lifting the back ends up. I took the sides off too much leaning over to work on the bike. I have the paper work for it at home I will find that also and get the name. I also set mine up with a air valve on the wall so I don't have to always connect a hose. The safety doesn't get much use I have left the bike up for weeks and it never lowered. Definitely something nice about the hydraulic cylinder.

It looks a lot like my Titan lift. I have tried using those rear lift rails. They don't work all that great. They bow in too much for me. Might work on dirt bikes or something real light.

Last night I removed the side extensions from both of my lifts as I have found that I have not been working on quite as many ATVs lately. Mostly motorcycles and cars/trucks/Jeeps so this gave me a little bit more room in my cramped little shop.

I have an Easy Riser. I don't have much storage space so I hang it from the ceiling when it's not in use.

The $94.00 lift.

All metal was free scrap.
Only had to buy the ram and some bolts.

I actually made it for a friends small engine repair shop for push mowers and small equipment.
He's going to skin the top himself.

The white plate is a small ramp that articulates when the lift rises.

Great design. I've made a couple of wooden ones in the past too. What are the dimensions of yours and why is there casters on only one end? I'm thinking you can pick it up by the other end and roll it around the shop.

That is awesome.

I thought about building something like this, but I don't have the space.

My J&S Lift. I finally got a picture of the bike on the lift while doing some general maintenance.

Space in my garage is tight - thinking about keeping a harbor freight lift in the center of the space I park my Pathfinder in. It has about 7 inches of ground clearance. Seem practical?

Should work but you'll have to take the whatever you use for a wheel chock off.

Not sure if this has already been discussed....but i need opinions/experiences. I am looking at building a lift table...I know some will say that it is cheaper to buy. However, I can and want a welding project and i want more features than the Harbor Freight motorcycle lift tables offer. Features like side extensions and front/rear tire swing down panels. Also using a hydraulic floor jack will be more dependable and easier/cheaper to replace than buying a hydraulic ram and pump.
I am looking for your experiences using the plans that can be purchased throught the below link. Were the plans clear and complete? Lifting capacity? Issues when building? Your cost and when you built it? I would appreciate replys from those that have experience with this built lift whether you built it yourself, helped build it or have used one like this one. Thanks for your replys.

I modified my NORCO mid rise car lift for my motorcycles. Welded up some extensions and put 3/4" plywood in the center, bolted down the wheel dock I made and built a movable ramp for the end. It works well and it all unbolts and folds up on to a flat dolly when I'm not using it. I can also use it as a workbench when I run out of work surfaces in the shop. Takes about 20 minutes to convert back and forth. Couldn't figure out how to get the picture to post if I ever do I'll put it up.

I am working on 3 bikes with no lift. I probably should have one but money is tight these days. Maybe Craigslist?

Harbor Freight has a coupon for a motorcycle lift $399 reg $699.
Almost not worth building you own lift.

I just LOVE the look of the flush mounted lifts...
I know it's a little silly, but has anyone cut one into their existing slab?

I'm sure I'll never do it....or will I!?!?!?!

I bought this Forward lift last fall and love it. It came with the front tire clamp and side extensions included in the price. Under $900 on sale from NAPA no shipping charges either.

Whats the best price anyone's found for the HF table? I see coupons for $300, though I thought I've heard of guys getting them for less.
