I've been wanting to replace the regular "M" style couplers and plugs on my compressed air components with something that would be a little less restrictive, but I hadn't found anywhere in my regular stomping grounds that sold them.
Well, this week they opened a brand new Northern Tool around the corner from my house, so I stopped and picked up a few Milton "V" couplers and a couple of packages of plugs.
Wondering just how much difference there was in real life, I measured the I.D. of a regular Milton "M" coupler at 0.190". The I.D. of the high-flow plug was 0.270". Applying a little cipherin' that works out to cross-sectional areas of .028 sq in and .057 sq in, respectively.
Working a little more of the miracle of mathematics, that's 103% larger cross sectional area, in the same size coupler body. That's a significant flow increase.
Add to that the fact that the high-flow couplers will still accept the old M style plugs (although without a flow increase) and the investment was definitely worth it. About $7 ea for couplers a $2 ea for plugs.
