Great looking building. Can't wait fr the finished product! Do you have any photos with more of the house in them, so we can see the layout of the property? How much land do you have out there?

2.5 acre lot on a cul de sac. Narrow at the front, wide at the back and comes to a point. From the air the lot looks like the bottom half of a 70's neck tie.
The house isn't anything special 4300 sq.ft. modified ranch with attacked 3 car garage. I'll try to get a pic of the whole spread.

And now we have a roof...

Roof is done... I'm so tired of walking around on 10/12 pitch!
The last of the windows are in, just need to finish the cedar trim.
Got the paper and lath stapled up.
I've got a 4 day weekend coming up, hoping to get the scratch coat done and the dry stack stone on the bottom 4' and up the sides of the garage door.

Very nice progress! Yes, the roof pitch is an issue, but the result inside is worth it.

Keep it up, and thanks for posting pictures!

What a great place! Any specific layout inside, or will you leave it open? 16x60 is a huge space upstairs... I'm envious!

Great looking building. If you don't mind me asking, who did you work with on the trusses. I am working on the details for a 40X60 building of my own and would like to get a quote on those attic trusses. I'm curious where the breakover point is from the extra cost of the attic trusses versus building 16' sidewalls and building a mezzanine for storage.

Thanks,
Chris

I used Quality Truss in Smithville, MO
31 trusses, piggy back style; 2 gable, 29 centers $8600 delivered.
In my case a 40' 10/12 pitch attic truss vs' the same truss without the attic was like a couple of hundred bucks... money well spent for an additional 960 sq ft room upstairs.
For me... I think a roof with more pitch is more aesthetically pleasing as opposed to a low slope roof on a really high sidewall to accommodate a mezzanine... especially on a 40' wide building, I think they look too squatty without enough ridge height... but that's just me.
Good luck on your build and feel free to ask me anything, suppliers, prices etc...

No joke,

I got an additional 1600sq feet of attic space with the steeper roof. I can't remember the pitch right off hand, but I know that my trusses were manufactured to maximize attic space.

Nice place. That is a ton of work there, as you well know. I had a 1800 sq. ft. shop with an attic truss, 20' x20' porch put up, and then I prep for the concrete, wired, insulated, and finished the inside and it took me 18 months, so I know what you have been through.

Approaching the 2 year mark from groundbreaking... and still building... and still not done...

But at least everything that's been done up to this point is paid for...

Getting this gable end finished and power run to it are the goals for the summer.

Looks great! Taking your time and paying as you go is a great way to do it, when you're done you can huts enjoy it and not have payments.

What a bad *** build!!

Your shop is 40'x60'x12' correct? The title confused me a bit.
I too drag race, and what an awesome experience it must be to work with the guys you do. And better yet get paid for it!

Finally some progress to report...
Stone done! Set, grouted, brushed ect... It's not hard just tedious...

Starting to get some siding up. Wanted to do something different so I went with a 12" lap siding w/ a 10.5" reveal.
The siding will be painted the same taupe color as the metal on the other 3 sides, it's the color of the light boxes on each side of the garage door.

And I finally have JUICE! Ran the 200amp service on Wednesday, it was about a 180' run...

Nice place

Question on your change in size was it because of the attic trusses (50' down to 40')?
I’m having trouble getting 50' attic trusses without putting a beam to have some support there…

My size quote included the lean-to, sorry for the confusion.
My trusses are 40' with a 10/12 roof and a 16' wide room with a 10' ceiling.
I've seen clear span trusses bigger than 40. There was a guy on here a couple of years ago who had 50 or 55' trusses. They were huge, they were also heavy and expensive.
I think I gave $8400 for my trusses, 31 of them in all.

Yep... Still here... Still working on this thing...

Getting some of the tin up on the gable, my wife is tired of all the free advertising Lowes has been getting off of the housewrap.

20150516_165552.jpg

I needed a new chicken coop so I took some time off of the barn to build this...
I tried to copy some of the elements I did on the barn.

20150516_165725.jpg

And racing season has started... So that takes time away from the barn...

Gable done...
Finished the vertical metal today and even got the flower boxes mounted under the two upper windows.

I was pretty tired of looking at that scaffold tower... as was my wife...

It's only been 2 years 10 months since I broke ground...
Still some work to do on the inside.

I'm not a huge fan of big white garage doors so here's my attempt at faux carriage house or stable swing doors...

OK so no new build progress other than a little lighting and electrical work...
I've been distracted, I'm sure you guys will understand.
