Hey guys here are another set of drawings on the 63 split window project. We are working on the front spoiler and the side coves right now. We are still brain storming so nothing is set in stone yet.

That is looking great Mark. That is a classic I could see myself driving.

Did you happen to catch any of the Barrett-Jackson this weekend? I think it was George Barris had a split window there.

Thank you I appreciate it. I have another guy on board to help me with the design. He was the CEO of Baldwin Motion for 7 years. He has taken quite a few cars to SEMA. This design may change drastically but I wanted to take you guys through the design stage.

I was watching the Barrett-Jackson this weekend. It is always nice to see some of the cars roll through there. I am heading up to the Orlando area this weekend for the Mecum auction and the NCRS Corvette show as well. Lots of things going on up there with cars so I am taking the wife up for a few days.

Mark,
While at the NCRS show ask for "Terry the beard." I would love to meet you and the Mrs.

Be careful, Mark. Don't come home with some new toy, just because it was there... Classic car auctions are easy to get caught up in the moment. Especially if the car is really cool and the price feels right...

Mark, the renderings look awesome! What about adding some fiberglass in front of the rear tire to help direct airflow around it? You could probably blend it well enough to look almost like a factory wide body. Under the bodyline only. Does that make sense?

That stance is perfect, but rather impossible on the front :D

I totally hang a poster of that rendering in my garage

I am so sorry I missed this message from you. We were all over the NCRS show and I would have liked to have met you.:(

It was so exciting I can see how someone could get caught up in the whole atmosphere. Of course with booze being served all over the place I can see how someone could make an uneducated decision. :drink:

It is an issue to deal with and one of the problems I see widening a fender. You just can add width on the top but also widen the flare around the tires in the front and the rear.

That stance is perfect, but rather impossible on the front :D

I will have it in color at some point and if you want a higher resolution picture just let me know.

For a name of the new place....MARK'S MAD RAD RIDES"

That is a good one !! However I have decided not to use my personal name in the shop name. Foose might be able to get away with it but I don't stand a chance. I really have a higher vision about the name of the shop so it has meaning and might say something about what we do. Also a name we can use for branding, logo, and marketing. I am really taking this next step seriously if we are going to move to the next level. I have a lot of things happening on this front and can't wait to share them with you guys when the time is right.

I have to report I had one of the nicest car weekends I have ever had this past weekend. My wife and I left Thursday for Kissimmi, Fl. We spent the mornings until 1 pm at the NCRS Corvette show and swap meet. I made a lot of contacts with venders and got to see a lot of Corvettes. I had never seen a NCRS show so it was very interesting to see all of the judges climbing over every nook and cranny of these Corvettes.

The afternoons we spent at the Mecum Auction. Wow was that a lot of fun. I spent very little time watching the auction compared to walking through all of the tents and looking at the cars. there were a lot of cars!! I never stopped moving. I only had a general admission ticket but I managed to get past the guards each day to hang out on the bidding floor.:) It was very exciting being down there with all off the action going on.

I can only say I came away from both of these events with a wealth of information on building my 63 Corvette. It is actually going to change my direction a little bit too.

fantastic picture!!! I see you like old stuff. I have a 1969 John Deere 140 my grandfather bought new. As young man I mowed his yard with this tractor. I would imagine we used it for over 20 years. It was restored about 15 years ago and I have it here in my garage.

Any chance of pictures of the 140?

After a 7 month rest the c10 pickup truck is back!! Pulled it off the lift today and getting back to work on it. We are pretty much changing the entire engine compartment from the original design. Thats my problem when i let things sit too long..........I change my mind. I really think we are going to finish it this time!!

Mark, have you ever come back to a project after a long break and reevaluated your old work? What did you think of it if you did?

I'm thrilled to see the C10 getting some attention. It's a vehicle that has been done to death by nearly everyone, but I've never watched a build of one. These trucks sometimes get built to such high levels that they'd be right at home at the top-notch hot rod shows.

Mark,
Did you see the lift just off the judging field? I run that part of the show.
Maybe next year.
Terry

Terry, was that you under the lift talking to all of the guys? I walked over there because there was a bunch of guys standing around under the car.

Mark that's a cool c-10 was hoping you would start on it can't wait to see it after all the cool builds

thanks, I just need to get this truck done. I have a lot of money in this project so far and I guess I can't stop.

Any time I walk away from a project I invariably change my mind about something. I am bad about changing my mind but somehow at the end I get to where I need to be. We originally decided to box in the engine compartment with sheet metal and at the last minute I change my mind in favor of "trailer fenders". Now we are back on this project I can't live with the fenders so we are back to boxing the engine compartment in. Otherwise all of the work done has been top notch in my opinion.

What has changed is my expectations on the build. Originally this was going to be a pick up truck on a turntable with mirrors under it at indoor car shows. :) I am not focused in this direction any more. Right now I want to get it done as quickly as possible..........with quality of course. We have so much work now and I need to get this truck out of the way. Your right as these truck builds are really going over the top and done right they are just as cool as a street rod.

Awesome news. Can't wait to hear more details. The level of craftsmanship certainly deserves going to the next level and beyond!

I've got my fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted, I'd love to see the new place once everything is finalized.

As for the shop name, you may want to check and see if there is a website already existing with the same name. For instance, if you chose Gulf Coast Rod & Customs looking on the net, there are already a few with that name and the website URL is taken.

Mark...are you going to fix up the new building so look similar to the inside of the garage you are in now? The reason I ask is that I think it would be so much more enjoyable to work in that sort of atmosphere that it would be to work in a building that just has Plain Jane walls. Where you're at now, it has a lot of character. I don't think anyone would be tired of working in there.

It could have been. :3gears: Depends on the year of the car on the lift.

Next year.

The toughest part of leaving here is the atmosphere. If I do get this building I would definitely be fixing it up. This is why I want to own. I really have not idea what the outcome will be on the purchase so I am continuing to look at other locations. If I end up having to lease I wouldn't want to spend too much money on the atmosphere. I have definitely walked away from a few places because they weren't pretty enough.:D I have not stopped looking and although we made the offer I am still looking because it aint over til its over. I looked at a 7500 square foot place today with a brand new paint booth in it. It has never been used!! It was almost enough to make me want to have it......its a real good backup.

This is so much fun, watching your hobby turn into a full-blown business. Keep inspiring, Mark.

I am going to try to....thanks.

I can tell you this much. Its a really cool name and the website URL is secured. Damn I want to say but I just can't yet.

Collision work has other people telling him how to repair a car. That doesn't sound like Mark. Even HE doesn't know what direction a project will take!

Ha Ha Wingnut, ain't that the truth!!:D

We are just doing custom work. However, here a few months ago we did a $13,000 collision job for one of our best customers. The shop made more money in a short amount of time that I have made on a 2 month hot rod project!!! :(

I made a trip to a nice warehouse today. No sign out in front but once inside full of super cars. I was there to look at a SuperLite project. Check out www.superlitecars.com. The owner of this car had wrecked his new Lamborghini and when out a week later and bought a brand new one just like it to replace the wrecked one. With a wrecked Lambo waiting to get repaired he purchased this SuperLite and decided to put the lamborghini motor in it. They took the motor out of the Lambo and the factory harness and are installing it in this SuperLite. Once done the motor will be tuned to about 1000hp. Also the ABS braking system and some additional technology. At some point we will be taking this project in to do the body and paint. Pretty fun stuff.:rocker: I wish I would have taken a picture of the all aluminum frame.

Mark, I believe that Stacey David built one of those Super lite cars on the TV show Gears. Pretty badass ride. Interested in seeing what it looks like once at your shop.

I heard you finally met my friend Bob, I believe at your church.

You are correct. I remeber that episode. Really cool looking car but still puzzled why you would put a Lamborghini engine in one. :headscrat

I'm guessing that when you wreck your Lambo you can buy the wreck from the insurance company for the salvage price and then have all those parts just laying around. Probably cheaper (and cooler) than buying an LS7 and Porsche G50 transmission and all the related accessories.

This Wrecked 2004 Murcielago is for sale for $28,000.

Yes I did meet Bob. It was really cool to meet him and again realize how small the world is.

Because you can:D. The owner also has a McLaren F1 GTR and says its too refined. He wants something with excitement. This car is getting a twin turbo set up that could be dialed in up to 1500 hp............if you want to kill yourself!!

Phew!!
What a thread!!
:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

thank you.

You can see the wrecked Lambo in the background. Right in front of this car was the brand new one he bought which was getting the Heffner Performance twin turbo.

Here is the frame.....

Dang, I sent the PM message above and nothing has come on since. Hope I didn't kill this baby. I promise I was just lurking around in the posts.

I have finally finished reading the previous 91 pages if this thread. While I must say that in the land of automotive aficionados, you are a ROCK STAR!!! However, You my friend have managed to ruin my life as I have previously known it.

My wife has threatened to cancel the internet connection if I don't get out of GJ for a few days. Then I showed her some of the work you are doing and that beautiful garage, home and park-like setting. I have promised that IF, she finds a plot of land that will give me space for a nice 45' x 60' shop with my very own 4 post lift, I am willing to undertake another house project. Your floor plan may be in jeopardy.

Great work, and a fantastic thread. Please keep the stories and Pics coming.
