Yep, Filson, that's a whopping good deal, but I ain't about to drive to N. Y. for anything less than that sweet Reed 209 that you want, but I want just a little bit more. It's going to be interesting to see who posts that sweet 209 first. And the hunt continues.

While I would of course, love to see one in my shop, I'd be pretty tickled to just see some pictures of one in good hands.

I did a little CL sniffing this morning. Came up with two in the same area.
Rock Island 56 swivel jaw 225 llbs
American Scale ? swivel jaw (Couldn't make out model #)
Oahu / Hawaii It's just a little further than New York

That's not a bad idea. Don't know how much they would work with a person, or how good of records they kept. It's just hard to believe that they would advertise the 209 along with all the rest of their vises, and never sold one. But one is yet to pop up on radar.

I doubt this information is right but if it is, this is a really good deal on a Holland #18. Be your own judge. Would be worth a medium drive.

the reed on the left is a 214, and gone. the right 1 is suppose tobe the 18. i don't think so

That is new one for me. First I've ever saw. Some of the other fellows may have seen one. Got some unique features about it. Looks like it would be real versatile and handy. I'd hang on to that one if I was you.

I've inquired with them about getting some information on original colors and stuff and simply got no reply. Worth a try though I suppose.

I'm sure they had to sell some, but just few & far between. It would be a miracle if they kept records from probably pre-70's, but you never know.

I already thought it was overpriced at $450, but not sure if that is a crack or if it might have been made that way. that is an awful straight crack if it wasn't made that way. I guess we'll have to hear from somebody that sees it in person.

I did notice that it might have the handle broken off of the nice little wrench on maybe a swivel bolt. I really like the handle on the main screw and you don't see many of those in use today if at all.

JanBuick: nice vise. I wonder if that is for gunsmithing or for maybe making flies to fish with. the swivel handle might need something to make it easier and maybe the one jaw tightened, but that could be a good thing on anybody's bench

Sure is. It does look nice in person, especially with the shiny copper jaw protectors

Can any one tell me anything about a littlestown 102. It was my dads. I'm still trying to talk my mom out of it. It is in his work room in the basement. When were they made, were they any good, What are they worth? This one is in very very good shape. I would just like to have it because it was his.

I inherited that after my dad passed. Has small chip near the top but not on the face. Gives it character I think. From my research on it, it dates to around 1910 or so. Also is a quick release - if you turn the handle to just the right position you can slide the entire front off quick and easy.



I'll be darned. Never noticed that on there but you are exactly right on the markings! But... it is a 1209. No idea on the difference.

I assume that your 1209 has a 2.5" jaw width. My 1207 jaws are 1.6" wide.

Guys, I think your "crack" is a casting line...

Agreed the wrench is broken off.

It's a pattern makers vise, it's a rotating vise, it has an extra long throat opening... All huge positives.

Assuming its not got a crack, while I think he's high, I don't think hes that high... I'd bet he'd come close to the asking on Eprey with decent pics to support the sale.

I have looked seriously for about 10 years now for a 209. I only know of three 109's to exist that I have seen. I have talked to the people at reed about old literature and they had a pipr break in the basement and ruined the cabinet that had the brochures but I never asked about invoices.
There has to be one somewhere. I have checked on casting a few just to have one.

I did snag an 8" post vise today
Have not got a big vise in a few months. That is a 2 liter bottle for umd.

That handle may have been an option either earlier or later. Those counterweights allow it to be spun like a top for speed use..

Finally picked up a Dawn 150 Offset Vise. from feebay for $50
I had to buy a replacement screw and it got a rattle can spray job, but it is as good as new now.

Has 6 inch jaws with a 10 inch opening. i can't think of anything larger i will need to hold. but i'll keep looking.
