No cheap thin steel on this bad boy. Then, how could you miss the stainless steel top, it just topped the box off. It feels very thick and solid also, probably around 1 inch thick.

Stainless Steel weighs .277 lbs per cubic inch. So if your top is 1"by72"by30" and if my math is right (I'm no mathmatician mind you) 1"x72"x30"=2160 cubic inches x .277lbs.= 598.32lbs.!!!
THATS ONE HEAVY TOP! :shocking:

Hey 480Rider (or anyone else), I am told Extreme and Montezuma toolboxes do no have latching drawers, they have indentations. I would think this is not as good as griplatch or slidelatching drawers. Doesn't pulling or pushing (opening and closing) to overcome the indentation cause tools slide from front to back?

no the awesome draw liners that come in the box dont allow you stuff to move at all, my drawers are very smooth,, the more weight you put in them the easier they pull in and out,, I greased the slides and it made them smooth as butter,, I use my box professionally. I open and shut draws about 40-80 times a day...

if you want a workhorse to hold your tools,, the elite box is awesome!

Sorry for the delay in responding -- I've been away from the forum for quite some time...

Anyway, as noted before, the liners do an excellent job of holding the tools in place. There is still some sliding if the drawer is pushed in aggressively, but it's not hard to manage.

I'm still quite pleased with the performance of my box.

@Leonard 95 I truly appreciate your time to have shared your personal review with that tool box. The snap-on guy comes by every other week and he (of course) has been hounding me to spend $7,000 on a bigger, new tool box. I am rather reluctant to spend THAT much money on box that will sit in a corner. So i went to strictlytoolboxes and came up with a great deal that suits my needs. Thanks alot man. You saved me over $5,000 with your post.

Resurrecting this topic and appreciate the info in this thread. I've picked up about 800 lbs of Kent-Moore Subaru Specialty tools that are both bulky (some of the drivetrain alignment and overhaul pieces) and heavy. Plus there's a ****-load of smaller K-M tools that really need their own grouping and location to keep everything organized, and they're pretty heavy in their own right.

I've been using my 56" C-man Professional lower cabinet and matching top box, but have completely run out of room in that. So, I've started searching for something that was USA-made and could stand-up to the rigors of a track-prepping and LBC restoration operation without the cost-premium of the big-name "professional" brands.

Hopefully, I'll be acquiring one of these in the near future and thanks to the OP and others who have contributed to my insight into both this product and vendor.

I am looking to purchase a new tool box but I am not sure what brand to buy, I like the look of the Extreme Professional Series but I have also been looking into another brand called Montezuma. Does anyone have any information on Montezuma boxes. I am very picky about the quality of what I buy & when spending this much I would like to get it right the first time. I have looked at Snap On boxes but I can't afford them. Any information would be helpful. Thanks Shannon

I have yet to find any issues with strictlytoolboxes.com so I don't think you can go wrong there, everything I've researched shows happy reviews

I know they sell some of the same boxes (or have). Wouldn't be surprised if the two are made in the same factory.

Both brands have great reviews on here!

Viper boxes (Sears or vipertoolstorage.com) and Menard's Masterforce are also in the same league (and probably made in the same factory).

I purchased the Montezuma now called "Tool Vault" elite. I couldn't be happier. Strictlytoolboxes was so easy to deal with. I don't think you would be upset with either choice. I went with the "Tool Vault" because of the drawer layout, stainless top, and upgraded casters.

I have a montezuma and it was made in the USA. Love the box. I have had the box for about 3-4 years or so.

Can anyone speak on the quality of the Extreme 41" or 56" standard boxes vs say Kobalt. Wondering how much of a difference there is between the standard and professional series.

I looked at the "Tool Vault" vs "Extreme" series ..... one difference is in what gauge metal is used on drawers and or case. As I recall the TV used 20g on the drawers while Extreme/Montezuma used 18g. Not much else different - maybe different case depth or drawer numbers/arrangement.

Bottom line is they're good boxes - period.

no comparison, Kobalt is flimsy homeowner grade junk, Extreme is solid professional grade.

every time I'm in Lowes I open and shut the drawers on whatever Kobalt box they have on display and just laugh.

Had my extreme 56" box for roughly year and a half now, typical garage use, nothing like a shop and no abuse. I am the only user, knock on wood, thing has been flawless and i still smile each time I do a project or work on the cars. Looked for a year before buying and still glad I did.

I am one of those who is looking to buy a new box and I think I've got my mind set. But I've got a few questions on the 72" series. Why is it that the Elite weighs more than the Classic? Elite has 17 drawers while the Classic has 15 drawers. Elite weighs 1036lbs vs the Classic at 794lbs. Both shells use 18 gauge steel. I can't see why it would weigh 242 pounds more. Also it's February of 2014 and I think it's time for you guys to post up feedbacks and pictures of your boxes! :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Elite a more robust box for sure, I looked at them in the Extreme warehouse in IL before I made my purchase. It is on par with a truck box for daily shop use.

The elite has upgraded casters and stainless top. Also the elite has dual slides on all the deep drawers.

So upgraded casters and stainless top = 242 pounds more? Is the box the same quality other than those 2 options? I'd rather have the classic since the 2 extra drawers that come on the elite are shorter. I would rather have 2 deep drawers on the bottom than just 1 on the left.

I have the toolvault elite and absolutely love it. It is not flimsy at all. You can always call strictlytoolboxes and see if they can change the bottom drawer setup. The bottom drawer doesn't bother me. Plus I wanted the upgraded casters, stainless top, and dual slides. Those addons to the classic would have made it more than the elite.

The exterior shell and drawers on the 7217 and 7215 are the exact same construction.

The spring casters and stainless steel top definitely adds weight. Also the 7217 has 9 more sets of drawer slides at just over 8 lbs per set.

9 more sets of drawer slides??? Wow, that's so much better. I'm not too familiar with spring casters, what's the advantage with spring than the original casters? Can I order an Elite 7217 but with 15 drawers like the Classic 7215? I would prefer to have 2 taller drawers on the bottom corners rather than just the 1 that is on the Elite. Also what are the heights of each drawers?

The spring casters are nice if you are rolling the box around a lot or are parking it on a rough surface. If you like the drawer configuration of the classic you would be better off ordering the Classic and getting extra slides to upgrade the drawers that are deeper than 2” but have a single set of slides to double slide.

The drawer dimensions can be found in the product descriptions of each product:

If you have any questions I can be reached at 888-289-1952

I'd really like to see pics of the 72" extreme with the hutch. I'm still wanting to sell my snap on box for one of those. I think they look like a great box.

I have seen them reviews, I would like to see one in person. I wish I knew someone close that has one that I can physically put my hands on. I get to Chicago on occasion. I may just run over to Naperville and check one out.

I have had all the big name brand boxes and my 56" Extreme matches the Snap on units I have had and Matco. Take it from me. I will post My extreme 56" and KRL 777 :shocking:

Here is a pic of the two.
The extreme does what my snap on box does and thats hold my tools.
The extreme drawer pullers are awesome and I like them better than any tool box I have ever owned.
Anyone who buys an extreme will be happy they bought it. If only I knew about this years and years ago I would have saved thousands and I do mean serious thousands.
I have had my extreme for some time and she still feels new. I wax it after I use it just as I do all my boxes.
I hope this helps out some any questions just ask. Please take my word for it when I say the only difference from the extreme and the snap on box (to me) is the name plate thats on the box, how they open drawer placement, latches and drawer pullers... I love my KRL777 and the extreme all the same. They hold my tools under lock and key very well and both are heavy.
I am selling my 56" extreme to make room for a 72" extreme. I need a work surface. :bounce:

Will get more pics out soon as I can.
