nice find and glad those Reeds were still there when you decided to grab them. surprised the guy didn't throw in the third for a parts vise for you.
those stands look sweet. any idea how much each one weighs? are you keeping them or selling them with the 4C's that you are going to sell?
I really didn't want to haggle / hassle the guy, the place was HUGE and had monstrous old equipment in there. There were some press brakes so big you could fold a truck. Those 4C's looked like tiny pieces of scrap in the corner compared to all the other stuff around. This wasn't an on-the-side deal either, everything there is inventoried and such and had to do paperwork and even pay tax... Everyone there was extremely nice though, I'm going to keep an eye on their site and see if anything else pops up in the future.
That 205R was pretty well beaten up, the jaws were so worn it was probably only 4" wide now... lol. It would of been nice to have as a freebie if nothing more than for the base, but not really worth the $250.
I took some pics of the 4C's right before I left, will post them tomorrow. I'm still in shock I looked over the slides and there is a little wear right up at the front, but the back where usually people beat stuff to death... NOTHING... No beat marks on the back of the static either. There's wear and such around the jaws, and a few little dings here and there but overall very impressive condition.
Don't know how much the bases weigh. One I could slide around, the other I could barely spin it 90 degrees. I'm going to take the vises off either tomorrow or Saturday, right now they are just bolted on using a piece of allthread and a couple nuts. I have some 3/4" bolts that will look nicer. Anyhow, one of the guys has those big floor scales that can weigh like up to 5,000lbs. I'm curious too what they weigh. I just don't want to move them that far with the vises on and have an accident. It was dicey enough picking the up by the vise to load / unload on the trailer. Those freaking feet can hold some weight, that's for sure!
Nice Jason, shucks half of Texas comes up here to vacation in Estes Park, I would love the one with no jaws. I could give you free room and board with your family if you want then you can see the Mountains, cost ya a 4C though. Nice find. I guess you would **** for having 4 of 4C's. Great job taking the $$ plunge, I am sure you will sleep good tonight.
That is a tempting offer. My parents usually take a trip to colorado each year (sometimes twice a year... what else do retired people do), they go up to around Buena Vista. I know my dad wouldn't mind taking it up. Don't you have like a hundred vises or so??? LOL...
Jason did he give you a discount for buying 2?
No, and I didn't try to haggle him either. I was going to until I saw the place and everything that was going on. I just wanted to get in and get out without causing much of a fuss. I kind of felt like nickel that was holding up the dollar. The price for those was very fair, sure lower is always better but I got the feeling he didn't have all day to play "let's make a deal".
Anybody wanna throw a vise my way? I can't seem to find a big ***. Slim pickens in FL. You can come visit me. I got warm temps and no snow. Price, one of those big *** vises. LOL
Seriously, watch your local CL but also eBay. I've bought several good sized vises over the years from Florida. I think this is just an off-time of the year. Usually you see more stuff during the spring / summer when people are hitting all the garage sales, and also around Christmas there is usually a surge on eBay.
