Here's the "some guy on internet" where I found an opinion about changes to Permatex's recipe for what they used to sell as Hylomar, and now just something like it. From amazon:
"4.0 out of 5 stars Compare to Hylomar, April 13, 2013
By Dave R. (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Permatex 85420 Permashield Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing & Sealant, 2 oz Tube (Automotive)
I picked this up at a local store. I would have bought it here had the word HYLOMAR been in the item description. It's clearly written on the packaging "Compare to Hylomar".
The actual Hylomar stuff is hard to find in the USA lately. This being Permatex, is in theory available anywhere Permatex is sold which is almost everywhere.
For people used to the OLD Hylomar.. this new stuff has acetone in it and according to some online research, that means it's most similar to the Hylomar universal racing formula. As a result of that, it applies much differently than the old stuff which I think was called universal blue. The old stuff was like a gel and didn't get stuck when rubbing it on with fingers, however this new stuff is like gel/liquid and if you apply it thin, you will feel as if it's stuck and you're pulling it around rather than applying it.
I much preferred the old stuff, but this seems to work so far on intake gaskets."
