I'm curious, have you said what color you plan to paint the cabinets? Will you be making panelized doors using the Kreg jig or flat doors with a routed edge?

I plan to paint the whole space over the summer. I have most of my summer free as a teacher and the weather will be much more conducive to painting. I'm thinking of just repainting the whole place white to brighten it up. It was white at some point, but is no longer. After the paint, I want to do an "Audi" stripe like Rick did in his double garage.

I haven't said what color the cabinets will be as I have not made any decisions. I'm thinking white again, but am open to suggestions. I'm actually planning to purchase the doors at Ikea. The shells were constructed to the same dimensions as their "BESTA" line, but cheaper and stronger. This means that I can use their high gloss "TOFTA" doors and hardware. I'm leaning toward the gray, but also considering the red.

I like the grey for the cab's and maybe some touches of red through out the garage..

White is the best way to go in a small space. It made a huge difference in mine just painting it white and then adding some details.

Im ok with anything but the brown unfinished peg. Its depends wether you want it to stand out or blend into the walls? Although the gray on bench is kinda light so that wouldn't be a bad choice. Maybe keep peg white and do border around gray?

This is sort of what I was thinking. I'm not real happy with how light the gray is on the workbench, but it works.

I got some of my cabinet doors done today. Ikea only had one of the short doors in stock, so I'll have to go back for those another time. I decided on the gray over the red. I thought that the red would just have been too much. I still need to put the pulls on the ones near the door, but I'm very happy with the progress.

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with how the doors turned out. Now I have to wait for the others to arrive at Ikea.

Nice looking space. I really like the tool cabinet inset into the workbench. The gray and red just sails!! Your organization is very good. I like the pegboard over the bench. I also like cabinets utilized to fill up the door rail area, an area often overlooked for storage. The place is looking just great!!!

Nice looking garage.. Do yourself a favor, change those extension springs! They should not have those gaps like they do. At the very least run a safety cable thru them. They can do some serious damage if they break and start flopping around! They will at least cost you a good pair of shorts. :lol_hitti

Years ago I had just gotten my Porsche back from the body shop with a new paint job in gleaming black. Looked like a new car. Proudly parked it safely in the garage and closed the door.

Can you guess where this is going? Yeah- the garage door spring broke a few hours later, and fell on the fender, gouging out a nice long set of gashes in the fresh paint.

I'd swap that one out ASAP if you have anything in the garage that has a surface you care about. :thumbup:

Thanks. It has been a big change from when we first moved in. The transformation is not quite complete, but it's getting there. I was a bit disappointed in the gray that I picked out. I wanted it to be a bit darker, but this will serve its purpose.

Yeah. The springs have been on my list since we moved in. I was going to replace them right away, but then thought that I would rather just convert to a torsion spring. I need to call around and get some quotes to get that taken care of. Thanks for putting it up higher on the list for me. In the mean time, I'll run a safety cable through the center of the existing units. I'd hate to ruin a pair of shorts or the paint on my Audi.

Glad to find another B5 owner around here. Are you on any of the Audi forums? The cam bar in the picture is actually for the 4.2L V8 that now lives in the A4. For whatever reason, they just had to make the V a little bit wider on the V8 than the V6.

Awesome use of space. The workbench looks really nice in my opinion, really turned out.

And since I live in WA as well, and also have a German auto; Do you go to the leavenworth drive? I've gone for a couple years now and seeing all of the different mods and swaps is really impressive

I have not done the Levenworth drive yet. I've been thinking about doing that this year.

You should do it, always a lot of fun. The only problem is if you are the last to leave you can get stuck in a big line of traffic in a couple places If you are first out, you'll have the nicer drive. If you don't have anyone to drive with I usually go with a decent sized group and we are always open to more cars. Always a good time :beer:

Thanks. I may have to take you up on that.

I found some storage drawers on craigslist tonight and scooped them up for $30. They are made by Akro Mils and the outer part is steel. They also came chock full of fasteners. Now for the problem...where to hang them? I was thinking of the right side of the workbench, but if I stack all 3, they will be too high.


Found these in one of the bins. Any idea what they are? They almost look like the needles used for giving blood. :wtf:

Look kinda like inflation needles for sports balls

What about hanging those storage boxes on the back wall or by the tool box?

Picked up the rest of the doors from Ikea today. Got all but one hung up. Part of the garage door track is obstructing the door. I haven't decided what to do about it. I'm thinking of shortening the track a bit to allow the door to swing open. I'm also going to move the larger cabinets toward the back to line up with the smaller ones.

Thanks! You may be right about those needles. They were super sharp. I didn't want anything to do with them, so I wrapped them up in tape and put them in the trash.

If you have enough clearance, buy the slide style hinges that will allow the door to move up vertically.

Nice job on the garage, in the starting phases of my single as well.

I got my newest addition for the garage today. I bought a 4" Wilton bullet vise on ebay. The seller or previous owner slathered some gray paint on it. I'll work on cleaning it up at some point, but for now it's workable.
