I see some termite action in one spot. If they ever advance to the center, your finished. I doubt you could give a vise away after that.
As usual, nice job on the Wilton

I dread the day but I've planned ahead and have an old milk crate lined up for a pedestal.
And thank you. You guys should see autopt's C1 he has listed. Mine looks like an old boat anchor compared to his beauty.

Is it a live auction or are they taking bids online Jason?

by the way here is the wounded Prentiss #4 I'm pulling apart that needs a new jaw or jaws and the female thread piece is missing if anybody has the parts can PM me. also another picture of the Prentiss #21 "coachmaker's" vise i'm restoring. warming up around here so let the prepping and painting begin.
with the angle of your first picture it was hard to read, but it is made in USA and for a 40 year old vise looks mint.
I have had some Wilton vises with dates on their slides that are the expiration date of their 5 year warranty period so it could be a 1972. until one of us writes a book on Vises or maybe just one on Wiltons or shares their knowledge then i'm not 100% sure what to tell you, but I can say they are great vises and yours is a keeper.
here's a 1957 C1 I owned that had an EXP 1962 on the slide.
I believe it goes from 3/31 - 4/2
Check out this page, you can select just MO to filter out only the vises, there's a number of lots.... Wilton, Reed, Yost, Columbian, etc...

Just soak the stump down with diesel to help preserve it...
Man, anyone live near Hazelwood, MO ???? Government Liquidiation has a sick amount of vises going on auction there... Here's just one of the several listings...

thanks VA, Fretters and Caddy. I was thinking of starting a thread with vise repair 101 because we are always running into something a little different that I know there is more help on this board than any book or manual we might find.
the other day Great White had a little issue with a sleeve that either had lost it's set screw or needed one tightened and he had it fixed in a matter of minutes by posting the issue on here.

Balane, you are so so modest. You already sold that vise before you could even list it and for more then I can dream on getting for mine. You sir are unbelievable!! This is my C1. I wish I lived closer to Balane. I need me a stump!
Does anyone recognize this name plate?? I can make out what looks to be a 45 and "Size" near the middle but that's it. A lady on a FaceBook sale page wants $35 for it ...
I don't know what I'd do with it except restore it.![]()
Unless you have a specific use for a clamp on vise, I'd personally pass.I don't think you can go too far wrong with either of those brands and sounds like you might have a good source. price is up to you and since it's restored you don't have to spend a day or more getting it ready after buying one that needs some rehabbing.
of course the guys on here including me would be able to help you more if you have pictures and if no pictures available then model #'s because both makers had several models.
take a look at the vise wiki on www.dayid.org under those makers and see all the models that he has found with the help of a lot of the guys on here.
