Florida Garage Project: 1,500 sqft Block

So it's been a while since the last post, mainly because I have been going straight home and working until 10pm every night. That being said, it's getting CLOSE!

Soffit installed:

This weekend is getting the main service ready (320 amp can, weatherhead, etc), along with getting the ceiling painted. If time permits, priming the outside as well. Then hang the lights, and start building shelving in prep to move in!

Wow 320A, I didnt know they would do that residential. looks really nice, I wish I could get mine knocked out so fast.

BTW, did you get the price you were expecting on the stucco? Are you happy with the job? Id like to get their info if so.

Thanks. 320A can runs both the garage and the house. Have two 200A discos.

The stucco was as quoted by the foot, and that price was right... but that needs to include open spaces. So I had done the math excluding the garage door, windows, etc. But because they have to pin the corners, and finish the edges around openings, they treat a wall as total SQFT regardless. That being said, the stucco was $1,500... so more than I had estimated. But that also included stuccoing the gables. They did do a good job, yes.

Sorry for being incommunicado for a while, been trying to get this thing wrapped up - and I'm almost there.

Finally got the electric finaled and power transferred to the new meter can on the garage (with a split underground service to the house). This was a big deal, because now I can weld in the garage!

My buddy had some heavy shelving in his work shop - but it wasn't exactly what I wanted, so I came up with an idea. I welded up my own frames from angle iron, and then found some wire decking meant to be used on pallet racks. I think the result is pretty good, and VERY sturdy. Here's a shot of it being put up:

Wanted to get the workbench in as well - went 20' wide and 32" deep. It's a 2x4 frame with 4x4 legs, with two layers of ply on top. A few shots:

Got the driveway poured two days ago, but had to do some dirt moving to get ready for that. This was before and after I compacted the soil:

And here's the progress on the driveway, as well as on the slab in the rear of the building (storage for tractor, lawn equipment, etc):

As before, the concrete guys did STELLAR work... and they're super nice dudes.

Last - and I know some of you may not agree with my taste, but I had a friend come in (who is a graffiti artist) to liven up the walls a little. Too much white space!

And yes, 420 is my CCS race number...

Looking really nice! The racks are a great addition as is the workbench. I see you opted not to stucco the whole garage...but that's a personal thing. There is NOTHING better than finding GREAT concrete guys...they are hard to find. I paid $600 to have my 600sf slab finished which was more than double what the "standard" charge was but I got a perfect floor...worth evey bit. Keep us posted on the finishes! As for the art work - it looks great and if you get tired of it you can have him change it or just cover it...it's only paint.

Thanks JJ. Yeah, I've been going over budget on lots of other stuff (by choice) - and I never see the back of the garage... so I didn't mind cutting cost there.

Some more progress. Last few weeks were spent fabricating shelving as mentioned... it took some time. We have just under 90 linear feet of shelving now... which should help me to stay organized!

My buddy's welds - it became a competition to see who could make them look best. I lost.

Garage was finaled last week. Still have some more stuff to get done, but it's close!

Dang, it’s been five years. After building the garage, I moved on to my home – which sucked up more time than I wish to remember. That said, thought I would update this with some more recent pictures, including new toys, etc. This is a good start, will update more as I have time. Excuse the mess – I may be a maintenance fanatic, but organization isn’t my strongest suit sometimes!
