Yeah! Insulation company is coming back tomorrow morning to fix their install mistakes with the baffles and the "pack offs".

Well I jinxed that. Rescheduled for Monday!

I haven't moved in yet and already had my electrician back and added 1 outlet and changed another to a double outlet. I decided that I will be getting a electric cord on a retractable reel and wanted an outlet dedicated to that. While I had him there I had him change a single outlet to a double. Decided that was going to be a good place to have multiple cordless battery chargers located.

If you are in the build or design stages I'd suggest spending some time just standing in your empty building and visualizing what and where things will be happening. Outlet for cell phone, cordless tools, bench grinder, drill press,.....

I have too many outlets, said no shop owner!

Insulation company came back yesterday and fixed some void areas around the baffles and 2x10's at the top of the wall. They then blew some more in the attic. It's at least 20" everywhere. The walk plank board in the picture is 18" from the ceiling. This should help combat $4.00 / gal propane! :(

That is about what I had in my old shop, works very well, you will see it in your wallet. I'm looking forward to using wood only in my boiler.

There was a string of temp lights during construction with a bulb every 15 ft or so. That was real nice. I had them hard wire 3 lights in "hay mound" protection jars. These are controlled in the breaker panel, that way I don't have to go take the access cover back down to flip the switch when I forget :) like I did today. I don't plan on being up there very often so 3 lights are sufficient. They also ran an extra conduit from the panel to a large junction box in the attic which is in the center right by the walk plank. Electrician included it, saying it would make some future day a lot easier for him,LoL. When I decide I need another light or outlet.

These were taken before the insulation was done. Shows the junction box. He used a 12-3-3 wire to run multiple circuits. He explained it to me, but I really didn't understand.

Chad,

Who did the insulation? NCI?

If you do end up needing a hose, just order one online from TPtools or someone like that. I had Napa make mine and it was STUPID expensive. The ones at TSC didn't have swivels and was a pain so I replaced it.

It's killing me to not get in my building but still haven't done my epoxy floor yet. I was able to hang the American flag today.

I would not epoxy a floor that large, plus given that you park heavy duty trucks in that garage. An awful lot of work and expense to put down expense, and I think you would be disapppointed on how it held up over the years. Just my two cents.

I really like your build a lot. Kudos.

I second that. I would polish the concrete and clear seal it. It's the best solution around. Here at work we have a 45000 sq ft R&D shop and I am going to polish the floor instead. Epoxy is so pretty but 99% will lift because the concrete is curing and drying out. The water has to go somewhere. My friends dad who was a Chemistry Teacher at UCLA and worked in the concrete business for years always told me that concrete take 40 years to throughly dry? I was like no way? Regardless, think about. The place looks great.

Thanks

That flag is a nice touch but too small for that size of shop.
Lots of space. Nice shop.

Agreed. He needs a car dealership flag.

Just found this thread and it is sweet that you have such a large space and will be able to use so much of it. I'm super jealous of the space but not of trying to heat it.

I appreciate everyone's opinions and I am very concerned about doing the epoxy. It is a large investment but not much larger than polishing and adding a clear coat or sealer. From what I've seen the clear coats today aren't as strong or resistant to shop chemicals, fuel and oils as epoxy is. I've looked, looked and read every post I could find on epoxy floors and I haven't found that 99% of the people were unhappy with the epoxy lifting. Maybe I haven't read those. I would love to find someone that has epoxy with somewhat the same application or setting that I will have.
Please continue to share your opinions.

I epoxy'ed my shop (54'x46' PIX) as soon as the concrete was 30 days old. I acid washed and let it dry then rolled it on. Mine has not lifted, or had any issues. I used Rust-Oleum EPOXYSHIELD Professional Floor Coating kit, but did not add the speckle flakes, but did use the anti-slip additive.

If I did it again, I would:
- Put it on a little heaver. My epoxy went further than the label said, so I had a lighter than recommended coating. I'd do it by pouring it out and spreading it with a broom and roller.
- Add a clear coat of epoxy on top of the color coat to add UV protection and have a tougher yet coating.
- If I cleared it, I would go ahead and add the speckle, as the clear coat will seal it in place.

Hung an old race car door panel up from the 71n Hooters Pro Cup car driven by Lonnie Rush Jr., first driver that I ever spotted for. The start of lot of memories that has allowed me to spot races in the Hooters Pro Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide and Truck Series.

Couple updates.
Hung my "old style" new phone up. It's made by Crosley. They are the ARCA team that I worked for last season. They also make juke boxes and replica furniture.

Also spent 9 hours with a diamond brush from Home Depot prepping the floor for my epoxy. The plan is to do it this coming weekend.
Here are some before and after grinding pics. Hard to tell in the pics but it did rough the surface up some. As much dust as I had it had to be doing something!

As far as my business being lucrative. My family business has been blessed by The Lord and gives us the ability to work hard, pay our bills on time and enjoy the fruits if our labor. There are two reasons I'm sharing this build with the "world"
1st to bring glory to God thru his blessings on our family
2nd to help others see the process so their build will go smooth

I hope you see my heart, the last thing I want someone to think is that I'm boasting and saying look at what I have.

Subscribed, Hows that air compressor working out for you? I had never heard of them and now they are probably top on my list for the spring. They had a location a few miles from me so i can save on freight costs.
