I've ran re air compressor but haven't "used" it yet since I'm not in the building yet. So far I'm very happy with it. For the $ I haven't seen any other brand that would beat it. When I close the door to the mechanical room you can talk easily right on the other side of the wall.

Great build cant wait till weather warms so I can get started on concrete in mine. One question can you take some pics around your garage doors so I can see how you finished around them with the metal. Thanks

Here's a couple pics of the area around the doors. Let me know if you want something different.

Yes, the openers are paid for already. I didn't want to take the chance of getting any road salt on floor before epoxy goes down. The door company wanted to use their lift which was dirty so I told them to wait. The wire for the controllers is already run inside the walls.

Epoxy is going down Friday.

Man, I've been following along, quietly, and for some reason I got excited seeing the above. What a milestone! Soon you'll be utilizing this space, which is awesome... I'm betting sometime around next year you'll say, "I should have gone 10' bigger." :D

The photos with the temp gun are a testament to insulation, for sure.

I, for one, love that you're sharing. Just like the people that own them, garages come in all different shapes, sizes, etc.

It may sound odd, but the one idea I'd love to steal for my own shop would be a room for mechanicals. I may have to put all my stuff up in a loft since floor space is working space, for me.

Keep up the progress!

chad2slow. The wood around the doors and in mech and bath rooms will probably stay un-painted. Definitely the area around the doors and mechanical room won't get paint. I think these look ok and it would be a pain to take the stuff down or trim around. My wife and daughter think the bathroom needs painted. I said, if you want it painted then have at it. I don't like to paint!

-Brent- thanks for chiming in. I hope I make it a year before saying those words "wish it was bigger". In regards to your build, I would suggest a mech room but don't have the air compressor up on loft. Friend of mine put his compressor upstairs in his loft which is almost identical to mine and it shook the entire building. He now has it under the stairs.

Chad, love the shop! I've followed from the beginning. I built mine in December, 40x60x16. I love this GJ site and hate it in the same breath! ( all I want to do at night is surf the site, can't get a damn thing done!) Anyway, if you don't mined me asking how is the heating cost doing so far? I want to put radiant heat in mine similar to yours. I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out exactly how to set up my inside, I just know I wan it heated! I do appreciate all your post, pics, and information you have given out. Keep up the good work. Mel

mggreen. I'm very happy with my boiler heat. It's probably doing a tad better than I expected. Our house runs off the same propane tank when the temps are below 35*, house is on heat pump above that. I haven't really sat down to see exactly how much more propane we've used this year with the shop heat on too. It's also been a COLDer than normal year. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

You have an older heat pump? Should be able to make heat well below 35 degrees…

Heat pump is ten years old. It will function below 35* but becomes less efficient due to going thru a defrost mode when temps are below freezing. I chose to have it set to switch to our propane furnace at 35*.

NUTTSGT Thanks for the heads up on the hose. It will be a 1" hose, if I go that route. I don't think I'm going to need it.

I used that clear plastic tube that has the white nylon(?) reinforcement woven into it. Used the same piece for 16 years & only had to tighten the hose clamps twice,

Wow I love your shop. I am currently in the process of getting bids to build my own. 90x45. I have a few questions that i would like to PM you about if that's okay.

pm answered. I see now the size your wanting to build. I will throw this out there for everyone. When pricing a building keep in mind that most buildings posts are on 8' centers so have your length in 8' increments. That's why mine ended up 96' and not 100' as I initially priced. Depending on how you are planning on finishing the interior, having it in 8' increments can also be beneficial.

Wait until you see how protective you are of your floor. I get upset every time someone drops a tool and I have 3 sheets of Masonite down between the legs of my lift. I cringe every time I get a chip.

Light gray Urethane top coat went with anti-slip went down with 4 of us in 1.5 hours. Now just waiting on it to cure. Fumes were strong as expected. Glad we all had respirators!

Quick pic from the door

One showing the texture of anti-slip powder, 3-4 ounces per gallon.

Great looking floor. With all the openness in the shop right now it looks like a Hockey Rink with a fresh Zamboni pass.
