New member, in the process of moving into the new garage. Had to weld up a bracket for the satellite guy. Haven't even unpacked yet, but the welder got broken out. I will get some pictures of the new place in a few days. I went from a small 2 garage to a 48' x 48' airplane hanger. Oh and the wife got the house she wanted. 1700 sq ft to 2900 sq ft.

Got the first call about the jeep so I went and installed the new heater controls and switch hole plugs. Found out the roof clamp was the wrong one. First caller will be here tomorrow around 5.

Today I finished cleaning up the wiring on this,

I would like to thank E-Tek for posting the information about this wire wrap that he used on the 40 Ford. This stuff was awesome. I kind of wish I had bought the tool to help intall it. The small wire wrap was harder to work with. But it all turned out great.

Also got the fans and radiator re-installed.

Yes, my wife and I are board members of the local Fil-Am group. We had this built by Sarao in the Philippines about 6 years ago, and shipped over minus the engine and transmission. Still had a heck of a time getting it through customs. Then it took almost two years to get licensed. They did not know what to classify it as. I have been doing a few safety fixes on it over the winter. This picture is the first time we took it to a car show. It was a hit. You definitely know who were ex-military!

This little crack in the plastic tank of the radiator,

Lead to "might as well change the water pump, hoses, and thermostat!"

Having some fun in here! Need to clean the gasket surface and wait for the parts to get in so I can put it back together now!

I had some running around to do today but got some time in on an aftermarket air cleaner assembly to match this stuff I did before Christmas.

A close up with what's left of his paint sample ... the Psycho Yellow over China Mint is a dead ringer for his Duster (and my Rural King bucket lol).

The top's not too bad but I think the factory put a whole forty seconds into cleaning up the castings on the undersides and base.

The bodywork turned out all right. Not perfect, but it's on the back; once the powder work is done these few remaining defects shouldn't show too much, and even then it will only be during filter changes or carb adjustments at the track.

Got a few minutes of blasting and cleaning in the morning and then it's off to color. "After" pics in a later post ..... :3gears:

Beautiful work. Care to share any tips on multi-color coating? I have the Eastwood home kit and would be very interested to learn how you do that so perfectly!

pottered a little putting stuff away and then started back on the restoration of the old WWII era steel windows from the old pighouse out back of the garage, drilled out the rusted solid rivets that the top opener had been hung on as hinges. They were so badly rusted that they'd snapped at some point and even afetr soaking for a week in a derusting solution that totally cleaned up the rest of the frame would not move even with heat and a good pounding with my No 2 lump hammer and a drift. Just got to drill out the other half of them on the main window and then weld up some rust holes. Then it's onto cleaning up the main part, then paint, re-fit the opener, put it back in the wall and reglaze. I also did an asessment of the state of the top cutter bar from my power scythe that I brought back from France with me over the winter, it needs eight new teeth from a combination of a couple working loose, one gone completely and the rest variously broken. Although new teeth/rivets are only £2.30 each I've decided to buy a whole new replacement bar as the rest are chipped and getting pretty blunt after seven years of hard work as a new one is only £76. I'm probably going to keep the old one and rebuild it as a spare at some point.

Thank you twertsy!! I've been at this for nearly 15 years now and have pretty much seen and tried it all ... and the best advice I have is to think outside the Eastwood box and practice, practice, and practice some more. Most places just blast and coat what's presented to them but I see no point in adding pretty colors to "as is" metal. Crisp lines and perfect color separations do not happen by accident.

If I was inclined to teach the rest of the world I'd probably instruct myself right out of a career. :D

I figured that'd be the answer......worth a shot though! You do beautiful work. The cost of powder coating stuff around here is outrageous so I've made myself a small powder area in my hobby shop. Still have to send out things bigger than my oven (Frames, cross-members, etc), but it's saved me a bunch.

High temp powder coating tape. mask off similar to painting.

Judging by what I can see of his work, there's much more to it than that. Besides, ever tried putting that tape between the fins on valve covers like that. I have tons of that tape. Very tedious, especially when you inevitably have to trim it.

twertsy, I lost jobs over a mere half an inch before while being restricted to a small household-sized oven so it prompted me to build my 7-footer several years ago ... which prompted a bigger blast cabinet ... :D but I've never regretted moving up.

Amen to that!! Well [lookin down], except for the "his work" part    ... Harumph!!! I may have male-oriented interests and hobbies but can assure you I'm all woman and Billy doesn't have a hand in any of this. :D

I very rarely use tape and usually come to regret it when I do. I'm an **** Virgo perfectionist and absolutely hate sloppy lines. I can't speak for the few others who do multi-color work but with me it's all experience, patience and freehand baby!!! I love my job. :D

Me and a mess of razor blades became friends as we scrapped the left over gaskets from the thermostat housing surface and the water pump surface.

Rest of my parts will come in tomorrow but I got the radiator and the pulleys I ordered.

Lol, my sincerest apologies. Reading previous posts somehow made me believe it was your other half doing the posting. Perhaps you both use the handle CudaChick........um..I'll leave that alone. Anyway, having done a LOT of practicing, I knew darn well there was no way your stuff is done with high-heat tape. No way that stupid tape yields the perfect lines you get. Whatever your technique is (which I WILL figure out), your work looks fantastic.

Took an angle grinder and flap disk to my lift to remove a ton or rust that's been accumulating with all the salt and snow that dripped on it this winter. Going to apply some rust converter and touch it up with some paint.

If my guy was interested in message boards he'd be The MOB Fiat or Bowtie Billy ... at 6'5, nearly 300 pounds and somewhat resembling Steven Seagal, he'd never be confused for a woman.

I sent you a PM just because you're so fun and willing twertsy! I look forward to getting to know you. Thanks again for the amazing compliments! My head's gonna be so swollen I won't fit through the shop door today.

Didnt mean to demean your work. Does the tape work...yes. Does it produce show quality pieces that phoenix does...no.

I finished the assembly of the Kawasaki motor for my John Deere 425 project tractor that I am working on. I picked it up at an auction last fall and now the engine is ready to go back in. Cam failure took out a few other parts. The chassis is ready to accept its heart back.
