I just got off the KAL Pro website and was wondering who makes the best pliers, KAL Pro or Knipex. I may spring for the KAL Pro deals they have right now, but am not sure. Any opinions? Thanks.

I can't speak for KAL Pro, but Knipex hands down makes some of the nicest pliers on the market today. I only have one pair of dykes but they are awesome. I really want some of the cobras but I have to watch my spending until after I graduate in may. Merkava was pushing the KAL stuff awhile back. I believe he has some MAC pliers that were made by KAL that he seemed love.

They're actually two different applications. I don't think there's much of an overlap between product lines. If you're looking for long handled pliers Kal Pro is an excellent choice that is often rebadged and sold by many tool trucks. If you want excellent water pump type pliers, diagonal cutters, or wrench pliers Knipex would be an excellent choice. However, don't expect to find a pair of traditional slip joint pliers with the Knipex brand on them. You may have to get those from Channellock.

No, with all due respect, I left traditional slip joints a long time ago. It's the long handled ones I'm interested in. Thanks.

If it is the long handles you are interested in, then I would go for those KALs. I was thinking about getting the long handle dykes myself. Plus the price is much better than off the tool trucks.

Hi CAT, that's what I was thinking. I want to get some other opinions as well before I take the plunge.

I was trying to point out the differences between the two product lines. Knipex doesn't make diagonal cutters over 10 inches long or needle nose pliers over 8 inches long or traditional slip joint pliers in any length. On the other hand Kal Pro makes excellent long nose pliers and diagonal cutters over 11 inches long. Kal pro also makes a real handy 9 inch modified long nose pliers with cutter and gripper jaws. I think you could save alot of money by buying the long pliers online from Kal pro over a tool truck but, you would also lose ease of warranty service should a pair fail. I have a wide assortment of Knipex and rebadged Kal pliers. I've only managed to chip the jaws on a pair of Knipex side cutters during several years of use. Both brands will serve you well.

Thanks Fedwrench - This information is what I need in order to make a decision on a possible purchase. I will be taking a closer look at the offerings of both companies as well as comparing prices.

??????????

Both of those brands have their strong points: for water pump type pliers, the Knipex Cobras are unbeatable; for long nose pliers, the KALs are the 'chit.' ;) Don't forget about those MAC (P9S) 9 inch nose pliers that KAL makes for them; they're a pure delight to use. :)

Alright Merk, now that's some good stuff for my feeble brain. I think I get it now and will be doing some serious comparison shopping on these two premium brands. Thank you my friend.
