DT man: Just curious, would those M14 strippers also work for an M1G? both use the same base on the cart.

Yes, the strippers will hold 7.62mm NATO (.308 Winchester), which is based on the .30-06 Springfield cartridge. So the strippers can hold either .308 or .30-06 rounds.

HOWEVER,

The M-1 Garand is set up only to take the 8-round en-bloc clip, so having 5 rounds of .30-06 on a stripper clip like these would still be useless to a Garand. It WOULD, however, work fine if you have a M1903 Springfield rifle from WW1 or WW2, which loads from 5-rd clips as standard.

I have a match M1A which is always hungry for rounds fed from stripper clips. I also have several FN/FAL based rifles which use the same style clips.

Outlaw - Once again, YOU DA MAN !

A little time on the wire wheel with a very light touch, an oil rub, and voilà !
I was planning on putting the hex keys in a CLR bath and babysitting them to protect what finish I could, but your suggestion did the trick much faster. (the red marks in the picture are a reflection, not rust) The stand got a rubdown with Nevr-Dull. After removing the rust, the stampings could be read, and all of the pieces are indeed Eklind.

Most of our sales got washed out this weekend due to extremely heavy rain, and hte remaining indoor ones were not worth a fig. So I popped up to see a flea market/auction/estate sale friend of mine to see what he had. The fan I really wanted went at opening time and at full price, but still picked up a couple of treasures. First up was a box. Actually Supplee-Biddle Utility Tool Chest. Just a small wooden box or I should say treasure chest. Sitting right there on the top was a box of (mostly) Winter bros taps from Rochester MI. Research tells me that they only produced there from 1929 to 1942. Then the Starrett thickness (feeler) gauges. Digging deeper I found Blackhawk pliers, un-named saw set, American Saw #1 alligator wrench (that escaped the pictures somehow), a Russell and Erwin key, a couple of burnishing tools, Ace slip and lock nut wrench, an un-named pipe wrench. Still more as I got to the bottom. A few C-clamps, an adjustable bit, dowel centers and a tool that at first glance I thought was an Exacto handle. It was made by Snap on and had a patent # that I followed up and it was in fact a Philips screw starter. And finally a Goodell Pratt tap wrench.
Then I added a couple of other items, a Stanley chisel and a Stanley double marking gauge, and paid $20 for everything.

Oops! I just noticed there was a kids tool set pincers, a Stanley Yankee bit, paint scraper and a no-name offset wrench.

Not bad outcome for an otherwise disastrous weekend. I could not get out today due to personal and business commitments.

The black clamps are "Quilt Frame Clamps" for holding a quilting frame together while sewing new squares onto a quilt in progress. They can get quite fancy.

OK, guys. EVERYONE clean it up, and drop the arguments and drama.

Let's talk about our tool finds at yard sales, etc, and NOTHING else on this thread. If you disagree with someone else's opinion, either do so politely, or don't respond at all. No need for aggressive arguments here.

I was going to let it slide but...I think I'm an addict....I could not sit around all day and not try to buy something and CL was dead so I went back to the estate sale from Fri/Sat since it was 50% off day. I figured maybe I could pick up the Gerstner box for half off along with a hand vise(yes, the only hand vise I have even seen in person and I passed on it two days in a row due to price $26:shocking: ) I get there and the hand vise is gone...just my luck, then I walk out to the garage and the Gerstner(missing a long drawer and front cover, not to mention total **** condition) is marked with the red pen, that means no 50% off on that item price remains as marked $49. That's a lil too rich for my blood in that condition so I dug through the rest of the unwanted remaining **** to find this other tape dispenser, NIB. This guy reminds me of me, he had two pair of nut buster pliers, two pair of snap on hose pliers, two tape dispensers, two etc...:lol_hitti

No complaints, I have the estate sale lady's cell phone number and plan to call her tomorrow to make an offer on the Gerstner. I hate it's missing a drawer/door and beat to **** but this is the first non-overseas wooden machinist box I have run in to in the wild so I would like to try and rescue it.

Haha! That tape dispenser is awesome.
Is that an all metal one, or the sand filled style?

Wait a minute, isn't someone around here an upholsterer by trade? Is that kind of like quilting? :dunno:

CL find Friday night:

Import junk up top, but a Plomb WF breaker, Bonney 1/2" Slide, Mac 1/2" extension, and a few other goodies as well.

Oh, and 2 SK Speeders as well. Nothing spectacular for $25, and the guy would not shut up nor let me leave, but I may be heading back tonight for more. Apparently he has a filing cabinet drawer of wrenches he wants to unload.

Shiny things caught my eye this weekend. Un-branded chisel, lightly used. it was almost as sharp as a wood chisel! Got a little hot on one corner tho. The Bonney feeler gauges look like they've never been used. And the 1" - 2" Crafstman mic's just jumped in my hand!

Ok, I've just deleted all those posts with senseless arguments back and forth. I intended to leave them and let well enough alone, until I saw that it had gotten even worse, and Ryan himself stepped in and deleted some of them.

So here is the deal...DO NOT ENGAGE in arguments or verbal drama here, or you will find yourself on the outside looking in at Garage Journal. We all have different points of view, different levels of expertise, different areas of special knowledge, etc. It's ok to disagree, but only in a polite and friendly-sounding manner.

PERIOD.

Now, back to tools we found at yard sales, auctions, etc.

On those dp tables, it's worth putting a car scissor jack or similar under the table to provide extra support when drilling, especially on bigger holes. It's pretty easy to get noticeable deflection when you start leaning on the handle to get decent drill tip pressure and you end up with holes that are'nt perpendicular to the surface.

I saw a ratchet jack looking rig on a DP at an estate sale once and thought it was for table lift but after more thinking, it was probably for support as the table would not lock. :dunno:

If you have noticeable deflection, I would certainly try to support it somehow.

Wow, you all have been BUSY!

I haven't checked this thread since Outlaw made it... and wow, some neat stuff.

I've got nothing recent to post, plus that stuff is posted elsewhere on GJ. My finds haven't been garage sales, really, anyway. However, this thread really has me wanting to take a look and see what's out there. :D

Gotaa sort thru a goodie box not shown today for a later post, but I had chores and helping some friends out commitments so hadda pick and poke.

Remants of a small sale that included 1/2" S-K Wayne speeder bar, lunch bag of S-K sockets, 1/4-20 stainless screws, 1970's USA c'man utility knife with flip down blade storage and integrated twine/cord cutter and the "WTF is it tool" for $5.

Also picked up a 1/3 HP C'man Crown Top 6" bench grinder at the flea with working eye shields and tool rests for $18. Total time capusule. Has both fine and course stones attached. Fine is nearly new.

Bottom is stamped March 1974 so its 40 years old. Runs like "buttah" and is smooth as silk.
Seller threw in a USA wire wheel for it and a NOS USA 36 grit grinding stone for it only to have me knock the damn stone off my kitchen counter last night late cracking it in half. Ugh.
LOLZ.
The Tool Gods Giveth. The Tool Gods Taketh away.
Damn tile kitchen floors.

Oh well.

For home use all will be a perfect fit.

Sorting the other goodies will be , umm, interesting.

:)

The weather finally was good and managed to get in a yard sale before spending my day moving into our new fire station and helping my brother do some demo work on his house. Not a lot, but at 50 cents an item I cherry picked the good items

Mr. Brooks,
Great score on some useful and expensive tools. I like the Skil grinder with the 8" bolt as a handle. I have an older 4" Makita I use that I bought at a sale with no handle years ago. I'll be looking in my bolt bin for a new hillbilly handle this weekend:lol_hitti!!

Haha yessir that's my own doing. I will be finding something thicker, thinking about some bicycle pegs I found for free at garage sale to run the bolt through.
