It's Stevie boy!

What I like about him is that he can waste at least 30 folk before the opening titles have gone up.

What a guy!

I can't even work out how to post a photograph without registering'fail to up load' each time. Was ok with photobucket at first but then that went haywire.

Strewth, bit drastic that ! 'large body of water' 'lowering in ?'. Hmm.This would be done at night I presume.:scared:

That usually indicates that the photo is too large. Try reducing the size of the picture and try again. I hit that wall often and this is what works for me.

Hi Jake

Like the projects.Like the old school motor drive on the wire wheel.I have one also.A half horse motor on my 70 + yr old press drill.Would love to show that(made in USA too.)My Dad used that drill prewar at the firm he worked for ,here in UK.

.What would be the best way to resize the pics. They are coming from computer and direct from photo card inserted into front of computer.

Thanks mate

Difficult question from afar.
I use a Mac, I'm assuming you're on a PC. I download the picture from the memory card to the desktop. Then open it in an image program (I use Preview, but Photoshop and GraphicConverter work as well). Somewhere in the menus there should be an option to resize the picture. Choose a smaller size, then press save.

If the new size doesn't upload to GJ, then do it again at an even smaller size until the file is small enough to upload. The file limit on GJ for jpegs is 146KB.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing your pics.

Try mixing the baking soda with some household hydrogen peroxide. If it's something organic that's causing the odor, that works quite well. (skunk musk, rotting meat, for example.) If that doesn't work, find a place that does powder coating and have them bake it in their curing oven on high for a while. You will have to repaint it, but, it will cremate whatever is stinking in the metal itself.

Can't you use the pic from the old post?

-right mouse button on image, "Copy Image Location"
-Insert image:
insertimage.gif
, "paste".

And Bob is your uncle!:D

Oops, That did not work.

Second try:
I went to your photobucket site and used the "img" code(right hand side, "Links to share this photo")

Was it this one:

or this one:

Cheers,

Jasper

Thanks all !!!!

Good work there Jasper. It's the same model as second photo, but in great condition.

I was looking forward to renovating this one,but the other good one came up,and was a kind of spanner in the works. This one in the photo here is in poor condition, but again ,such a brilliant size, and works and is intact..I have got an idea of replacing the front cover(which I have folded under the lid in this pic) with a sheet of aluminium and putting the handle on that. The piano hinge is bad and the existing front cover is all bent .I could do brass hinges on the aluminium. The rest of it is cosmetic and a bit of straightening',here and there. I do have the missing drawer, but it needs a bit of hammering.

This wont help, but I have a similar problem. When I was in between toolboxes.......I had all my stuff in small carry boxes. One of my dogs lifted his leg on it. I was there, I washed all the tools with degreaser. They still smelled, soaked them in bleach, no luck, soaked in penetrating oil, motor oil, ****** fluid, brake fluid, brake cleaner, gas, diesel, clr, castrol super clean, simple green, baking soda ans water, and about anything else I could get my hands on...oh yeah....tried bathroom cleaner too, pet stain carpet cleaner, no smell soap for hunting etc.......at least it was just my punches and chislels, I have warrantied all of them but 3, and that drawer still smells like dog pee...........even new punches and chisles take on the smell, but I gave up cause it stays in that drawer. I have changes the drawers around and the smell goes with the punches and chisels! Does not stay in the drawer! I hate it.....but I dont know what else to do. I will keep an eye out on this thread and see if you can solve it!

Laundry detergent works on dog pee, needs to be the biological type
It's the ammonia causing the smell , lots of the other chemicals used will make it worse

Sounds horrible! I have an old red Husky box (made by Waterloo or Beach or whoever) that also has a smell every time I open the top lid but it smells good, like really good. I bought it (barely) used from a gay couple so it probably is some nice perfume/cologne or something.

Sometimes I open the lid just to take a sniff. Is that weird?

Some kind of lubricant maybe?:dunno:

...as are some Snap-On black handles from the same era, and worst of all--for the vomit smell--are Xcelite screwdrivers of that era, but it can happen to any brand of CAB handles under the right (or wrong) conditions.

In addition to the old Snap-on black handles turning bad, I had a set of the red PoziDriv ones that I bought in the early to mid 1980's do the same. They started blistering, flaking, and crumbling. I had a "new" Snap-on dealer at the time, about five or so years ago and he had never seen the problem. He called "central command" and they told him that it was a legit problem and he replaced all of them.

I've been using Xcelite stuff forever. They didn't smell good even BEFORE they'd deteriorate. They'd act like a petri dish too. There was always colonies of mold growing on them.

Come to think of it, I used to have a pair of coated handle pliers that regularly grew crops of mold.

Ah, memories..... :D

Surprised no one asked about camphor. Does it smell like your grandmothers closet? Moth balls aka camphor balls stink and help prevent rust. Lots of old timers used them in their tool boxes. The balls slowly dissolve in to a gas that surrounds tools in an enclosed space, so there may be no evidence of the balls except their smell.

If you can identify what it is you will either be able to live with it or get rid of it.

I think you got something stuck in their stinking. you got to inspect all the folds in the metal frame... maybe even drill some holes to inspect and wash out with garden hose. I bought an aluminum truck box at flea market one time...it was $20 and stank like crazy. when I took it home and washed it with simple green and a garden hose I put the hose behind the metal ribs and got a few shovels full of earwigs. like a pile of them. they were all nested up in the metal ribs where you can't get to them. once I did that stink was gone.

Dead ladybugs also stink real bad. They get in the house and accumulate and die at one of the upstairs windows on the loft. I **** them up with the vac and the next time I use it, it stinks and I end up wasting a bag, as I have to change it to eliminate the smell.
