Jake: i heard you even got some exercise grabbing that vise .................

Up to the third floor to look at it .......
Down to the first floor to haggle over price and pay .......
Out to the car to get a wrench .......
Up to the third floor to remove the vise .......
Down to the first floor and out to the car (with an 84# vise in my arms) to load it .......
[forgot my wrench on the bench, Panic !] :willy_nil .......
RUN up to the third floor to retrieve my 10" Utica before someone grabs it and tries to buy it .......
Trudge back down to the street so that I can finally have a smoke.

Yea, I had a little bit of a workout this morning. :lol_hitti

Nope, 5" ! ('cause you know that extra inch makes a difference) :D

Really? (or are you just telling us that cause the wife is hanging over your shoulder, and you told her that so she won't notice the difference... )

;)

Seriously, Great score! 5" is getting in with the big boys.

Mustache: very nice gesture to the nice lady and her old dogs. all those items looked like her husband or dad had some skills.

Thanks for saying, and that's exactly what I was thinking. And with Mother's Day coming up, well, you know... After all this went down she said she was going to clean out her garage soon and would let me know what she finds before she posts to CL. I'm a firm believer in karma, so I'm hoping to do more business with her. Today was a good day for both of us.

Well, here's a recent pick up, all USA made: a small Proto box (which upon looking up, is for hex-bit sockets); a Proto 4mm hex bit; a six inch Utica needle-nose plier, 777-6; a 3/8" TruTest ratchet, T1261; and lastly a 1 1/16" Plomb flare nut wrench, 3734. The Plomb is in gorgeous shape. Honestly, looks like it wasn't used more than a couple of times. $3 for all.

Rained out around here, did get one lil pointer style Craftsman torque wrench for $1 before grabbing Dunkin on the way home. Headed to the state auction, lots of good things but pockets are tight, be back soon!

I made one stop this morning and it was a pretty decent haul. It look more promising then it turned out to be but i happy with what i paid for everything.

There were a number of PWA/Proto contract tools in the lot and 1 Berylco non sparking wrench. The rest was 50lb of scrap copper/brass and one large bench vise. Pictures will be posted in the Vise Thread.

That short stubby Plvmb is rare I believe. I have never seen a 6pt. double box end, offset wrench like that before.

Weather was **** and so were the sales. Price ranged from $.50 (SO Wrench and Swiss Army Knife) to $2 (Manifold Gauge set).

I couldn't resist the 110V hour meter but have no idea what to use it for.

Closeup of the klein logo. Anyone have an idea of the age? Too bad someone wrecked the wire cutting area bu trying to cut some steel wire rope or something else hard.

I hit a couple of planned stops this morning, at the first one somebody had cleaned out the tools before I got there but I picked up a few odds and ends at the second.

First pic: magnetic p/u tool, Tru-Flate gauge, S-K 1/4" drive 6" extension, Nupla SP-150 hammer, Jennings (Stanley) auger bits, Petersen 6LN pliers, Lufkin 3" rule, 10" Proto adjustable wrench, screw/bolt gauges, Eklind fractional sets (ball-hex is missing 3/16 and 5/32), and automatic center punch. Gave $12 for this handful and $5 for the steel Blitz gas can in the second pic.

Hit a TOO on the way home and picked up a 24" Magnolia Brush broom for $3 and the Equipto cabinet which wasn't part of the sale since it was being used in the seller's shop. I offered him $50 because I never see these for sale around here and he cleaned his stuff out of it and I took it home.

Great finds, everyone! No epic hauls this weekend. Did hit 3 sales, bought stuff at one. More details to follow, but I paid $20 for this tool box:

I think the original color was a solid dark blue. The exterior surfaces may have had a textured finish? I have done zero research into brand, but here's a pic of a slide for reference (zkling?).

I finished digging through my large bag of scrap metal and found a few more items i missed on the first round of pictures. I have a small Goodell Pratt vise i didn't get a shot of but i will once its cleaned up.

Starrett roll pin punch set in wooden case

Hunter Co. Cartridge case. Its got some scales on it but still in great condition.

Paschall 1306 ball peen hammer. Do you need any more proof they were made by Plomb?

This one has the date code and "war finish" stamped on the top of the head.

I am very jealous of your Equipto cabinet. I really want 1 or 10 of those.

Itinerant: Cool score on the Equipto, and proof that "it's not for sale" can change very quickly...

Flat: yoooou suuuck! I'm morally certain that is the early 40's Craftsman 3 drawer. If not, it's made by the same supplier to Sears... Is the blue wrinkle?

Wire it to the light switch in your shop so you can see how much time you spend out there. :D

It only goes to 9999.9 hrs:lol_hitti

Love that Equipto, mine has all std drawers, I wish it had the center like yours.

I think this box was originally dark blue (possibly wrinkled), was painted black at some point later, and light blue/gray later still... I'll take a closer look when I can. Did Craftsman boxes have a decal or a riveted badge? When did they have the square corners?

:hellobye: That is very cool. I agree with Outlaw, it is an early 40's craftsman box. I've seen a catalog scan somewhere. :headscrat: The oval emblem is still slightly visible on the front door. Does the top cover have a full length piano hinge or two individual hinges? Pic by chance? I don't understand how the top stays open on those boxes. :dunno:

Edited as I just saw your other post. That blue you see on the sides is most likely the original color (slighly faded perhaps). Pull the drawers and check the backs for a true color. They come out just like the older snap on slides, you will need a shim tool.

Got blasted out the water on everything but 1 of these cabinets...:(

Those look like they would be great for storing your spare organ in jars collection. :lol_hitti

I went out with LOML on this Mother's Day Weekend and hit a few sales.

One sale was in a cool old 2 car garage with a full second floor above it. The house was 100+ years old - I didn't hear the woman mention how old the garage was. It would have been a better sale yesterday - it look very well picked over.

I picked up the following items:

A 12" Snap On prybar - PB12?
A pair of Corona pruners
A Stanley No 199 non-retractable utility knife
A Williams 9723 3/8x7/16 short offset box wrench

Not pictured is a sheet metal drill bit stand that it currently in a vinegar bath.
No manufacturer name on it - but it's kind of cool.

$5 for everything. I only buy a few things so I don't get the economy of scale when you guys buy a huge pile for $30 buck.

Cheers

Jim

OK the usual Sat. morning run was about like the past couple of weeks. A few finds, as well as a higher number of silly money pricing that were left. I actiually told one guy, "You want them more than I do! (three clamp a small Proto wrench, and a hex key set for $20...) The College FM people are trying hard to sell at antique store prices in general... By the time I was home I was trying to be philosophical about so many people with the belief that rust + old = Valuable antiques... :dunno:

The early Yard Sales had a few things:

A half ton spreader, and some old school brass door knobs, $5:

attachment.php

A silver plate creamer pot for SWMBO, and a fender (Amp?) logo .10c!

attachment.php

Got the 3 R's pretty well covered: Arithmetic, Geometry and English grammar with analysis books: 1872, 1883, and 1889

attachment.php

A quart of Alky, and a NOS sander board for a sheetrock sander stick

attachment.php

I did manage to get a couple things from the FM, 2 Indestro 15/16 in new condition from one guy for $5, - He started at 15, shook my head and he came down to ten; I shrugged that off and he asked me what I was willing to pay. I told him $5 and he countered, and I repeated 5 and that was my top. he took it. the rest was with another guy for $8 - Vim tools oil filter gripper, Xelite Strippers, Adjustable 3" C-clamp, and no visible name hose clamp pliers.

attachment.php

From the bottom Plvmb DOE from one guy, and the others were $8 fro al 4, Japan glass tongs, ()I like to use these for metal reforming jobs) Proto DOE, P&C Battery Pliers, and a New Britain DBE.

attachment.php

I had about decided on the way home that this was probably what it was going to be like for the summer. The economy has picked up quite a bit, people aren't hurting so much, there is more disposable cash around... It all ads up to higher prices, fewer yard sales, so more competition for the good stuff.

I came home for lunch, unloaded, and took some pics, ate and rechecked for the late postings for yard sales. I found one, an estate sale that sounded promising...

Guys there is no substitute for dumb luck and ignorance! :pimpflash

But you will have to wait for it! Details to come as I get these bags unloaded..

4 Bags (all US army GI probably WWII) FULL of tools, a low boy jack, and yes that is a torque wrench, 33" long... 3/4" drive.
