Due to budget, it will match the rest of the wood (see a few posts back) that I used outside.
It is Cedar, but with a dark walnut stain (pre stained) to help hide the red as best I as I can.

From what I understand is it is not really needed here. The foundation is peered (25 of 'em) and they used a flexible mortar. Of course, I am not expert.. but I hope it holds up

I use the stuff from dupont on all of mine. I find that pouring it in a solo cup and brushing it on with a cheap $0.99 chip brush works best. I tried one of those roller bottle things and wasn't a fan. Do a small 4' or so section, then come back and wipe any remaining with a paper towel. Then once the room is done, i'll come back and do a 2nd coat. Looks like you have a ton of sealing to do. It's not a difficult job, I can just think of 100 other things I'd rather be doing.

Cabinets are in place for the counter top folks to come measure, and I am just about done fabricating the upstairs patio rails.

'Wow' right back at ya. Fantastic progress and results. I've given up on keeping up - and by the way, your stair design won't take a back seat to anybody.
On another note, I think we might be using the same shower drains. Are yours manufactured by Laticrete by any chance. How do you like them so far?

Very, very, nice!!! I have a bazillion questions, but I'll let myself be surprised with the updates.
The only question I do have right at the moment though......did you get the sag in the roof overhang remedied? I hate to say, but that was the first thing I saw when I saw the pictures. Other than that, I love it.

These are made by Schlueter. I love the look. The only challenge I ran into is that my tile guy didnt use the "schlueter system" and thus I lost the 10 year warranty.
Turns out when the schlueter rep showed up he was little to "salesy" and pissed off my builder, the tile guy and the plumber. They all got the feeling he was just trying to sell them something that costs twice is much.
Had I known at the time on the 10 year warranty thing, I wouldnt have let that slip.
Kevin- drove me nuts too. And yes, we solved it. The rafter there was a 2X sistered 2x6, so we added a 1/4" metal plate with a staggered bolt pattern to it after jacking it back into position. Been hanging out for 6 weeks and still looks great.
I should have plated ALL the rafters over that balcony though, as now I can see a slightly dip in the middle if you look just right, since the front end is not straight.. and of course the roof over the house is straight.
Big issue I have now is the bump out with the 18"flat roof leaked. I had a feeling it would.. and even suggested how that was handled was not right but I wasnt listened to.
So we will see. cant put carpet in till we solve the leak.

I ckecked them out online and boy, do they make some nice stuff. Only problem with these types of products is the cost. It can add up in a hurry.
The drains I'm using look exactly the same with the pan that accepts pieces of floor tile. I ended up buying two 5 foot sections and will be welding them together.
All the tile work looks fantastic JM. By the way the concrete formwork looks well done as well. What's the plan for the finish?
Who did your tile floors here? Can you PM the installed per sqft? We are needing to get rid of carpet/tile throughout the house and these faux wood tiles are the look I wanted but in a darker color. I have only seen them sitting in boxes and none installed yet.

The tiles appear to be at a somewhat random angle (which I quite like the look of), do they line up with any wall (out of shot)?
When I get to renovating the main bathroom in our place I had planned to lay the tiles at angle (mainly because I don't think there are any 2 walls in the old place that meet at 90 degrees & IMO it gives the illusion of being a larger room than it actually is) - I was thinking of 45 degrees but on seeing yours, I might go for 20 or 30 (degrees) instead.

The angle is 23.6* And yes, it was done to draw the eye from the front door into the corner of the kitchen, and minimize "small pieces" along any long window. My GF did all the calcs actually on that one!
I actually am happy with the tile guy.. which I cant say the same for a lot of my subs.

Stairs are in. Unfortunately they are about an inch too tall. Will be fixing that this saturday.

just came across this thread...fantastic build, doing anything that is not traditional is a challenge, esp. in DFW. (Just completed a house in the area, too, although not an original design nor as modern as i would have liked.) Although i am not in it now, I was involved in a lot of interesting interior construction projects that used modern detailing and really appreciate the effort.
Oh, and i think we may raced at least once together - didn't you come out and run a SRF with us at some point?

Somehow I missed this build in all my doodling around GJ. Just caught up and read through the whole build process. Great vision and attention to detail. Now I am going to have to drive by and look for myself. Hopefully I can catch you there. I usually go up and down that stretch of Preston 3 or 4 times a week. I am over in Plano off DNT and Parker. I will drop you a PM.

On the other hand, your name sounded familiar, although I'm not into karting, but do read about it occasionally if I come across a thread, or someone points something out. You have a lot to be proud of. I did a search and come across a few threads, and almost every one talks about Jordan Musser being the "ALL TIME BEST DRIVER"!!!! And this is from the competition!!!! So Kudo's to you for sure!!!
And keep the updates coming. One other thing before I forget.....aren't you worried about the stairs getting scratched up with people walking up and down the steps with no protection on them? I realized they are powdercoated, but I would think that any dust, from outside and inside would scratch them up as powdercoating WILL scratch. Ha, well I am definitely not the all time best driver.. but I do pretty well!
Very worried. They are presently wrapped with foam and cheap wood plates on the treads for the rest of construction. My gut feel is that the treads will get destroyed anyway, and I will have to add a hard wood thin "top" to the treads as a wear plate.

Will there be protection under the stairs to prevent hitting your head while walking by or near them? The corners look like the they be sharp. Just curious, but the house looks great!

Nope. I sealed the grout on the floor tile so the blood wouldn't stain....

They curb height is crazy. Its is almost 4inches. Concrete guys claims ADA compliance issues, but even my neighbors house whose was built 6 months ago is only 2 inches.

So were mine.. they cut them out.. and re did them. original curb was like 6 inches, all my neighbors have 0 to 2" curbs... mine.. 4".

Well that is ****. I tried to get the camaro on the ramp and it got stuck on the curb. Had to push it back. I will have to drive it at a crazy angle to get it in and out till i figure out a solution haha

Dugan- My guess is they got it good and hot to burn off anything nasty before cooking.. but who knows!

It is to draw the eye into the kitchen, but it also reduced the number of small pieces against the big windows. Originally I had also planned to extend the same tile outside to match with the inside (tieing the two together visually) but the extra couple thousand just isnt gonna happen.
